- On a recent Live Stream Lawrie was given this old Hornby Flying Scotsman which didn't want to run well. Can he improve it?

That's a Hornby Flying Scotsman with realistic chuffing sound.
I was just about to comment that!!!
Beat me to it
I WAS THINKING THAT!
Hello, Sir May!

Great isn't it!
@@lmm indeed

James May would LOVE it

James mays pride
With realistic chuffing sound 😂
James May right now: HES GOT MY FLYING SCOTSMAN!!! *Looks on his shelf* oh there it is
Yay! A Chuff-Chuff box in the tender! Nice!
DDC sound eat your heart out
Reminds me of my grandfathers train table, so many memories from that, I’m glad to see people nowadays are still doing that type of stuff
There's a real charm to these older models
Word of the wise, never put the body back on till you’ve confirmed the problem is fixed
My dad has this, then when he goes it’ll go down to me. This one tho is very special to him as his dad got it 4 years before he was born, his dad has sadly past. So I spend 2 weeks fixing it for him and now it runs once more. He’s never been happier.
That's very bittersweet. Good job!
Thanks
I own this exact model, belonged to my Great grandfather. I'm thinking of restoring it to working order when I've got the free time.
They're not too hard to get working again
The number of comments excited about the realistic chuffing sound is great. Mr may would be pleased.
Glad to see I wasn't the only one to think of James May 😄
My Dad has one of these. It used to run when I was a kid but it was never a very happy runner. Keep meaning to send it to someone to restore it and get her running again.
With realistic chuffing sounds!
REALISTIC CHUFFING SOUNDS
It's a Hornby Flying Scotsman with realistic chuffing sounds.
*REALISTIC CHUFFING SOUND*
I always wanted a hornby model…
Not sure if there's a big difference between the two but weused to get the royal scot come to my old work place for refueling and tanking occasionally, god that thing is a work of art !
The Scots a great thing!
I had that as a kid , loved it happy memories 😊
“With realistic chuffing sounds”
Best feature
Christmas 1971😊. A happy memory!
LMM the london midland and midland railway!
😂 😂
amazing what a little bit of maintenance can do!🎉🎉
The Scotsman be flyin' again
That chuff reminded me of james may😂
Awesome stuff boys @lmm Keep up the awesome work
I need that wheel cleaner. Running my BNSF SD40-2R (#3001) on a layout for the county fair, wheels get dirty at an alarming rate
Dont forget to oil the motor and clean the contacts
To be honest i'm more of a classic car guy myself, but if that doesn't work out i'm probably gonna go into model train and dioramas
Classic cars are awesome
Why not both?
lovely, very nice work.
Excellent. Where does one find one of those wheel cleaners? Luv it.
Nice
Cleaning the wheels 1st before disassembly is just common sense though
Doesn't make an entertaining video though
I was a child when this was new.
Very sad when the model train shop closed.
As if by magic. Bang and the dirt is gone!
I got 1 it was my grandads it's in good condition
They're great old things
I like that wheel cleaner. Where'd ya get it?
From my local model shop, I think they're avaliable from Ebay.
Trix ho wheel cleaner should get one
To can u tell me where I can get ong
Ebay is a good start
I have one just like this and has slightly similar issues but it can emit sparks when it's running, and ideas for what's wrong with it?
Nice model
Mine needs fixing it's not been run in fifty years 😢
IT HAS CHUFFING SOUNDS!!
Ok, the fact ive now seen three of these videos, when i JUST BOUGHT the second hand O-scale this morning, is kind of freaky, not gonna lie.
The chuffing sound sounds like the axle is scratching the chassis of the engine.
That's basically what it is
I have this loco
Uh hi don’t mean to bug you but- why oil do you use? I collect some models myself but I don’t know what oil to use. Only got 1 I’m working on rn and it’s an old pannier tank. Thing really needs some oiling
Try either Peco Electrolube or sewing machine oil. Use far more sparingly than was shown here - one drop per oiling point.😊
Sometimes I find that just disassembly and reassembly with no other work fixes it
Well done lorry
likely henry from thomas and friends
Fairly sure I have this exact model? Are they worth anything? Along with an original HST set. TIA
Not a huge amount, it's only worth soemthing if new and in box to a collector - for people wanting to run trains, the newer versions are better
Does the firebox light still work?
I don't think so sadly
Its always a ground. 😂
Gordon
Gorden's brother
How much was your trix cleaner
Can't remember. Had it years now
It seems like it was just lubrication.
Pretty much
Percy?
There was no need to open up the body I guess
Service helped
Tiny🥹
Is oiling all the movey bits not your first instinct?!
When it's seized, no.
Are you selling it I have no money but I collect model trains

Grown men.....😅
With that primitive 1950ies style originalmotor and low reduction it still runs like crap. Well, seems the British hav the same attitude when it comes to preformance of their toys as to the quality of their food. None.
The British know it's not a toy though
