This song reminds me of Annabeth, Percy, and Luke. Yes, I know this song has PJO references. But the lyrics really fit these three, Luke trying to convince Annabeth to join him while Percy is trying to convince her not to.
Badlands just has something more personal about it then her new album... Don't get me wrong, I love Halsey and I think she's super talented, but it feels to me that her older songs are more intimate. The way she describes moments and feelings is more like she's exposing her heart and trying to help us understand what she's been through and not the typical cookie cutter (with a slight Halsey twist to it) that her songs turned into. I just wish she kept more of that personal and intimate touch in her music.

Badlands just has something more personal about it then her new album... Don't get me wrong, I love Halsey and I think she's super talented, but it feels to me that her older songs are more intimate. The way she describes moments and feelings is more like she's exposing her heart and trying to help us understand what she's been through and not the typical cookie cutter (with a slight Halsey twist to it) that her songs turned into. I just wish she kept more of that personal and intimate touch in her music.

I mean to me... this song is all about manipulation using a superiority/power complex. Repeatedly being told, by one person, that the two of you are ‘above’ everyone else essentially forces you to become dependent on that person, leaving you wide for manipulation, like in the end of the song.
