Thanks for the great video. However, it fails for me at the following point. I use Cookiebot as a third-party provider and have also set the trigger time to 15 seconds. However, even with a first visit (at least according to GA4 debug mode) it starts with the user_engagement (click on the accept button in the banner). The events first_visit and session_start are not triggered despite the waiting time. Do you have an idea?

I've followed this tutorial and it shows that my tags are firing corretly but the cookie banner is not poppping up on my page, I've also clearedd cache and tried multiple browsers ... weird.
Please double check this: 1) You have added your domain in the cookie information back-end under settings. 2) You have selected the correct default language in the cookie information back-end. 3) You have set the correct language in the Cookie Information Google Tag Manager template. 4) You have selected the "add cookie banner" settings in Cookie Information Google Tag Manager template.

Hi, I tried everything but the consent banner is not appearing when previewing it. Have gone through the documentation and verified the setup, but it still doesn't show up :(
Hmm, on the second page impression: Why is the consent only being updated at the second consent event (27) instead of the first one (21)? Meaning if I would need tags to be firing at the window loaded event (26) with consent, these wouldn't fire because the consent update only happens afterwards at 27. Thanks for this video, it's super handy. I've just had a chat with the Google implementation team and they say that GTM does not create the banner, for this, you would need a third-party tool to generate it (hence you channel name...)
I tried this but no matter if I change the settings for the time on the tag or template it defaults to 500: gtag("consent", "default", { ad_personalization: "denied", ad_storage: "denied", ad_user_data: "denied", analytics_storage: "denied", region: [ "AT", "BE", "BG", "CY", "CZ", "DE", "DK", "EE", "ES", "FI", "FR", "GB", "GR", "HR", "HU", "IE", "IS", "IT", "LI", "LT", "LU", "LV", "MT", "NL", "NO", "PL", "PT", "RO", "SE", "SI", "SK" ], wait_for_update: 500 })
Great video. But I have a problem: When loading a page, the consent state is set really late, and all of my tags that use the "require additional consent"-function fail to fire, because the trigger happens before the consent state is set. 1) I have made sure that the Cookieinformation-tag has priority value of 0. 2) I have made sure that my event tags have working triggers (when I remove the "require additional consent" form the tag, they fire just fine). How do I make sure that Tag Manager sets the consent state BEFORE my tags fire?
If you use the cookie information Google Tag Manager template, default consent should be fired as some of the very first events. If your events are faster than that, you will need to create a trigger group with your event combined with the "cookie_cat_necessary" event which is fired by cookie information once the consent is updated and ready
Amazing video, but i still have one problem and it's about the consent banner not showing up, can you please clarify if we must do something in order for it to appear? Hi! In this implementation, GA4 fires just right after "denied" default consents. When the user updates consents, this tag doesn't fire again. I assume it's advanced consent mode settings. In this case, GA4 receive updated consent from the user or not? I don't know how to check what happens if I am denied consent on the banner. I am worried that all default consents are "denied" and GA4 will not send any data at all.
What would happen if we set default value to "granted" and without displaying any banner to the user? Would all tags fire correctly? I'm asking this question in the context of countries with less stringent legal requirements regarding data privacy.
If you set the default to granted, all tags will fire even though the user does not consent, and your tags will like up to Googles requirements for Consent mode v2. However, your site will obviously not be compliant with GDPR and cookie laws.
Hi Lars, I rally like this video but if I remove the cookie banner from the source code of my website I cant get access to my website anymore but my work Material can which seems very unusual/ strange to me. Its a website built with WIX. Hi Lars, I have a few questions. This is regarding advanced mode. For GTM the tags now have 2 triggers (in my GTM), consent mode update trigger and the conversion trigger for example, is it (and, and)? that both need to be triggered? Or is it enough if a build-in consent mode already exists? What I'm wondering is that during consent mode update (in the debug mode), not a single tag was fired except for the tags on which I added additional consent and the additional trigger consent mode update. Even including the consent mode update does not make all the other tags fire since the default setting is set on: doesn't require additional consent. The cookies were accepted but the tags were not fired with the trigger 'all pages' I have been struggling for over 3 weeks now... Hope you can help or anyone else. (I have set additional consent for the meta pixel.)
When evaluating consent in non-google tags like the Meta pixel, you need to use a trigger that fires after the consent state is updated by the cookiebanner. If you use Cookie Information you can use the event called cookie_cat_necessary, that always fire after consent is defined by the user.
@@larsfriis1987and what if I use a different cookie banner? The action when consent is given is called: cookie_consent_update and this needs to be set after the other page load trigger? Hi Lars, thanks for this easy tutorial, it was very helpful. I'm currently trying out your cookiebanner and was wondering if there's supposed to be no data coming in in GA4 when someone declines all cookies? You can see in your GA4 reports if modelling is active.
Normally you need 50.000+ sessions per months to have modelling applied.
På forhånd mange tak for svar :) Claus
Hej Claus
@@clauswestergaard5223 GTM = Google Tag Manager. Det er det tool jeg demonstrerer i videoen. Der viser jeg hvordan du indstiller sproget på dit banner.
Thanks for the tutorial. Now, it would be great to show an example of the implementation in the code. Thanks.
Hi @oldadajbych8123
We are happy that you liked our GTM tutorial.
For direct implementation in the code, please refer to this help article: support.cookieinformation.com/en/articles/8886647-consent-mode-v2-implementation
We will also consider making a video about that very soon 🙌
Is this the basic or advance mode?
Hello Joao, this is the advanced implementation.
Thank you so much!
I think the GA4 tag will not fire until the consent is granted.
Ga4 will fire once the "wait for update" timer runs out, or when the consent is updated (defined) in the cookiebanner.
Thank u!!!
its free ?
We are currently offering a 30-day free trial and a limited-time deal with a 50% discount. You can get our cookie banner and Consent Mode v2 for as low as €7.50 per month. Now, that's a bargain! :)
