    For me Skyrim was the beginning of the end for Bethesda. If you take a close look at the writing before and after Skyrim, its like it was written by completely different people. They took consequences out of everything, didn't double check their work or even their lore. There were contradictions in the game's lore itself. It was a letdown. Add to the fact that the cities were literally smaller than the ones in the prior game and it was clear they didn't know what to do to keep improving. Skyrim had the advantage of cleaner graphics and a major jump in tech to work with from 2006 to 2012 but aside from that the contribution of bethesda itself was slowly being lost. People really saw it in fallout 4 and fallout 76 but still refused to accept what was happening. Now with Starfield it's just clear. Bethesda is a shell of its former self and isn't really worth the time anymore. There are better games and better companies. Instead of dedicating all these hours to mod a game without any love put into it, the modding community should instead help out games who deserve it.

    Yeah this game has really crystallized for me the fact that having such a strong modding community is both a blessing and a curse. The blessing is obvious. Lots of mods means at least some of them will be amazing and really add a whole new dimension to the game. But the curse is that it's becoming more and more clear with each new release that Bethesda themselves are using that community as a crutch and as a source of unpaid labor to finish their game for them so that they don't have to bother. Almost everything in this game feels like it's close to being good but not there yet. Everything gives the feeling "well, I'm sure mods can finish this."
    Missing graphics settings, poor optimization, boring exploration, terrible melee combat, terrible enemy AI, most of the enemies being the same thing over and over again, even habitable worlds feeling like they're all mostly the same, the tedious main quest that's just a series of fetch quests, the locations you go to in said fetch quests being just a single room with the exact same "puzzle" where you literally jump through hoops every time instead of being found at the end of explorable dungeons. All of this is stuff that is BETHESDA'S job to finish and put in the game. This kind of shit should not be delegated to modders. The fact that all of this and more are in the "well, modders can fix that" category is fucked up. Bethesda clearly expects the fans to do thousands of hours of cumulative labor for free to fix their game because they weren't willing to spend the resources and time to do it themselves. Lazy and despicable especially considering the large price tag for the game.

How to describe Neon? Basically a PG-13 clone of Night City from Cyberpunk. The seediest place in all the galaxy, yet no junkies shooting up in the alleys, no strip clubs, no XXX stores, no psycho gangs, no hookers, no swearing and everyone dressed as conservative as humanely possible. If you aren't at least having a good time pretty quickly, just play something else. There are other games that will hit a better cord with you. For me it's the best single player game I've ever played, but I can definitely understand and acknowledge the criticisms of it. I love how interactable every object is in the world, and when I played Cyberpunk I feel restricted in what I can do compared to Bethesda games. There isn't a ton of different factions you can join and the experience while open world felt much more linear to me with less things to do. I also disagree that Neon is a clone of Cyberpunk. Both Neon and Night City are clones of Blade Runner.

    • @goatwarrior3570

      @@huttie2342 Cyberpunk is definitely more linear, I wouldn't even class it as an RPG, more like an action shooter with RPG elements. But Cyberpunk managed to present a much more realistic and by default, more immersive world. Night City feels like a real living breathing city and reflects all the glitz, sleaze, inequality, crime and violence of many major cities in our own time. The characters that you meet there feel like real people, products of their environment, not simply NPCs reading dialogue to get you to the next stage of the game.
      I get that Starfield has some interesting elements, like the space ship customization and some of the low G fights were fun but the writing and the world building are absolutely terrible and even later into the game the fetch quest missions are so lazy and tedious they feel like Bethesda is making a parody of themselves. Try out the quest line for Ryujin industries. "fly to other star system, put a folder in a chest, come back". The perk system doesn't feel rewarding because you're handicapped and prevented from accessing the content you paid for, and made to earn access to your own skills rather than getting an exciting boost to the base gameplay without both you and the gameplay being handicapped to the ground first.
    The skill tree in this game is just a roadblock. It stops you the player from using your actual talent at shooting, lock picking, space flight, etc. So when you unlock a perk it just basically rewards you by a) letting you use your actual gaming abilities that predate the game itself and b) giving you marginal access to the content they promised would be there and hyped to crazy degrees.... I've always hated skill gated lock picks in fallout, what's the harm in letting me try? It ruins "their vision" for the game? So what, the current system is not fun, and rather pointlessly so given the fact that locks already vary in difficulty, which is itself already a skill gate...they are double skill gated just to add 5 more perks to unlock (granting access to your own skills and unlocking more access to the minigame).
    It's kind of not a straight up reward so much as it is the removal of something intrusive. Getting out of jail is only a great feeling because jail sucks. Getting your skill points in starfield is only fun because the gameplay before that kind of sucks (if it even lets you try).
    Like for another example, your guns probably should just be at least ten to twenty percent stronger, they make guns weak specifically to handicap your actual skill and make you earn the power.... Guns don't work like that, a gunshot wound to the chest is a gsw to the chest no matter how small or shakey the shooter was...They should make you earn accuracy instead of lethality, would solve the problem all together for guns. Current system makes no sense in terms of either fun or how shooting skill and damage actually works, it only serves to slow the pace of combat with bullet sponge enemies.... Which is fun against mirelurks and deathclaws.... Less so against humans and smaller threats

    • @nimarus3118
      @nimarus3118 9 месяцев назад

      Keep in mind that the lore has you as an entry-level miner. So a miner isn't going to be an ace starship pilot or a master cyberhacker. Naturally, through playing and leveling up, your skills improve. But yeah, it can be irritating to know that your stats are being handicapped early on and some starships can't be used right away.

    • @marcm2277
      @marcm2277 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@nimarus3118 I'm not saying I have all the answers, but nothing in real life is stopping me from trying to pick a lock or drive a vehicle out of my league and either failing or getting lucky.
      In Skyrim you could in fact pick master locks at low level if you had the lockpicks, patience, skills, and or luck to do so...which was in my opinion actually fun. Rdr2 and botw don't stop you from trying to tame a horse you aren't high enough level for....they let you try do or damned.
      I hate the skill gated system, it's the epitome of not giving the player freedom and agency over their character. They could easily make it so you only get a certain number of attempts before breaking the lock to add to the difficulty and make lockpicking perks attractive as a matter of fun instead of necessity to even try to pick locks. That gate is only there to hinder the player fun, not to add realism.
      The problem for me isn't starting out weak and needing to progress; it's that the game is level and skill gated to the point of not being fun because of the feeling of being constrained in too many instances at once... You're not allowed to do things is different than you can't do them because you're unskilled. This game feels much closer to you're not allowed to because rules rather than that you can't because skill.... because Bethesda envisioned you as some lowly miner that can't even attempt to do something they haven't done before like picking a lock or a pocket without spending a skill point on that thing first. Not realistic at all, just hindering.

    • @maxmikester8185
      @maxmikester8185 9 месяцев назад

      Sorry to say but if Starfield’s skill tree is a roadblock then Fallout 4 and Skyrim did it much worse. Skyrim required you to essentially grind said skill to level up and Fallout 4 has insane level gaps between levels of many skills. In Starfield, as long as you do a simple challenge you could essentially get rank 4 and/ or powerful skills much much earlier.
      Also bro is complaining about the lock picking, as if you expect the game to just hand you the content. It’s an RPG for a reason, you gotta work for it. In my opinion that’s pretty cool.

    • @marcm2277
      @marcm2277 9 месяцев назад

      @@maxmikester8185 you got some excellent reading comprehension if that's all you took from my comment.... I swear it's like you can't use an example of one complaint without people thinking that's THE complaint.
      Like do you know the difference between giving someone a gift so that they are better off than they were, and stealing something from them so they have something to work towards? The skill tree in this game feels like the latter.
      You're right that fallout 4 did have a very similar system, but with level gating in certain skills instead of the challenge. Not that I'm saying the skill tree was better in fo4 (because it isn't) but I didn't need 4 ranks in a skill to have fun in fallout 4. I agree though, that even in fallout the skill tree is lackluster and boring, for many of the same reasons I find the skill tree in sf lackluster and boring.
      I don't see what your criticism of Skyrim's skill tree even amounts to... But I could try to pick locks, pick pockets, sneak around, and use different types of armor without spending any prerequisite skill points....to me that is ideal. Not that I'm saying the skill tree or progression were perfect; but it offered a boost to fun game play rather than crippling me completely and making me earn access to basic core activities.. moreover, it offers more freedom to experiment with different systems of the game if you don't have to spend a skill point just to access the introductory level of that system (I sure love regretting where I spent a skill point five levels later).
      You shouldn't have to grind to get to the fun part of a game; the grind should be part of the fun.... Their past games accomplished this, this one does not.

    • @maxmikester8185
      @maxmikester8185 9 месяцев назад

      @@marcm2277 I mean Skyrim’s skill tree WAS the grind is my argument. Aka you wanna get better at one handed? Beat up people for it. My point is that Starfield’s skill system combines both Skyrim and fallout 4 in a way that allows creative freedom in character building. To debunk your entire point, you could easily max out Ballistics and Pistols in the first 8 levels if one so desired, where fallout 4 could never achieve this. On that note what exactly is the skill tree ‘stealing’ from you, the inability to pick any lock without leveling up to do so? That’s literally part of EVERY Bethesda game because it’s an RPG. The whole point is to level up and gain skills to work towards something that you want to do. Your argument is like complaining because you can’t open the master level locks at the beginning of the game because you are meant to come back to it later. I fail to see your arguments when all the previous games did the EXACT SAME THING. In Skyrim’s case yes you could try most everything, but without proper skill points you will fail more often than not at later points.
      Allow me to debunk your argument about weapons while I’m at it. Of course guns don’t work like that in real life but guess what, it’s an RPG. If every gun did lethal amounts of damage in a couple shots, you would take away the entire challenge of the game, and it’s also why tank/bullet sponge enemies exist as it is. The point of RPGs is that you have to grind in order to progress. To me a lot of your arguments just defeats the purpose of what an RPG is and not just Bethesda ones. Please think before you insult me with sarcasm.

Fallout 3 is fun, but it lacks a lot of what made the first 2 so good, and as times gone on, the flanderization and simplification of their franchises has slowly been killing them imho. There's an alternate reality where the original creators won that buyout which makes me sad.

      I agree with the "Just ok" label, not that it's bad, but it does feel incomplete, unoptimized. A perfect example, and this is a minor nitpick but an indicator of the larger issue. the menu, the flavor animations take too long (and that time adds up after a while), the spacing and organization of the UI is clearly for the look not the function. And the UI mods I've seen videos of, basically not only fixes it, but the choice of font for most of them, I'm pretty sure is what NASA uses, which helps sell the whole "NASA-punk" style they were going for in the first place. in those mods you can organize by mass (which i found the lack of in the vanilla game surprising, since mass is supposed to be a huge consideration.), value, value per unit of mass, and so on. you can turn your inventory into a frickin spreadsheet if you want to. Which in any other game would be cumbersome, BUT since this is "NASA-punk" it actually fits and makes sense. Like I said, this is a just a small, tiny tiny thing that I'm nitpicking on. But the lack of cleanliness and optimization of even the UX (user Experience) is an indicator of the larger issue.

      The gunplay is only really good by Bethesda standards though. Like it doesn't hold a candle to the combat in most other recent RPGs (including the original Cyberpunk release) and definitely not to any actual shooter. Mass Effect 2's combat is 10x as good and that was over 12 years ago. i would argue that Fallout4 edges Starfield because it at least has VATS which adds some really amusing wrinkles to combat.

    I agree very strongly with things like the perk system. Its so uninspired man... already with the first trailer they showed, when i saw the '''+10/20/30% damage with rifle's'' perk or whatever i was facepalming. When i play the game on very hard difficulty and i spend 3 perk points like that that give me 30% more damage, thats like the same almos as just lowering thedifficulty from very hard to hard...
    Even the difficulty sliders are just as boring as they always are. Just damage gain damage done percentages.... How about that on hard difficulty the A.I becomes more aggresive? And on very hard difficulty its even more aggresive, enemies attack more often and aim better, and more enemies spawn? I just pulled those things out of my ass and its already more interesting then what they did in seven years. Even a modder made a mod like this within one week after release that make A.I at least fekking AIM at you and shoot you. xD .... ONE WEEK..

When Skyrim came out in 2011 the flaws and cynical design were immediately obvious and I've never been able to finish the game despite trying on an annual basis for the last decade. Also there's so many fetch quests that it drowns out the good ones. I honestly hope that when modders make their own quests there will be a mod to delete the many many fetch quests and 'push E here' quests.

    I actually LIKE Starfield, but I get a lot of the people who don't like it. And I think I know why they don't. It has to do with what each person likes about Bethesda games.
    I put an unhealthy amount of hours into Skyrim and all Fallout games. And now have 40+ hours on Starfield.
    The key word here is, quite simple really, what people like about these games and that is: Exploration.
    Here's how a mission goes in Skryim or Fallout: Get the mission, talk to someone, walk to the mission location, on the way find animals, robbers, secrets, buildings, other missions, activities, giants, powers, etc etc etc. Then get to the location, complete the mission either walk back (with some more of all of that in the way) or fast travel.
    Here's how a mission goes in Starfield: Get the mission, talk to someone, FAST TRAVEL to the mission location, walk 2-5 minutes on an empty procedural generated planet with a couple of hostile aliens, get to the location and complete the mission. Fast travel back.
    And that's the core of the issue, old Bethesda games create stories with exploration, in Starfield is just menus and fast travel.
    There are amazing stories, amazing missions, amazing characters, and amazing cities, but all is interconnected by loading screens and menus, and that ruins it.
    Starfield is a gold ingot thrown into an ocean of shit.

      I'm sorry but you must be high or dilutional. I've played skyrim and fallout and replayed them several times but I think I will barley be able to finish starfield. Starfield is just dull, flat and mediocre with a lot of corners cut.
      amazing missions? so far i've pretty muh only ran into fetch quests or go talk to someone and return. Amazing cities? are have we been to the same places or what? the capital of humanity is only like 4 shops, a embassy and a few blocked buildings.
      I was hopeful for starfield but bethesta has followed the rest of the gaming industry and released a mediocre unpolished "we will fix it later" game

      @@reahs4815 You probably haven't explored much. Mostly likely you just keep landing on random parts of worlds expecting them to suddenly generate whiterun or something.
      All the handcrafted settlements are special and very well designed. Yes, they don't have much but that's just like every other game from Bethesda. Except for the removal of houses which would make no sense in this kind of game.
      Also, you clearly haven't been paying much attention since you just called New Atlantis the capital of humanity, which it is not. But whatever.
      Starfield has many problems and has a severe amount of mediocrity in a lot of it's features, but it deserves to be judged by what it is not by what it isn't.

    It almost scratched the itch of what i wanted but it's all the things others complain about that i agree with now, way too many loading screens. God awful engine and patchwork was used to make the game and it's clear. We should expect higher quality from our games from companies with a budget the size of Microsoft! The fact they still hide physicial storage chests for vendors is insane, esp when they can do it in a much cleaner way by now.

    Starfield is an above average (If not average) game, which is all they had to meet to be honest. They make a decent game that's alright on it's own, release some dlc's to enhanced the game, and then modders prolong the game for a decade+.
    Is it lazy? Absolutely, but what can you expect? Thier roster is a mix of decent and good quality games (Exclude FO76) that have only lastedas long as they have because of their mod support policy.
    I would've rather it have been GOTY level, but it is what it is, I'll just have to wait a few years for it to reach thst level.

    It is fallout 4 space edition without the VATS mechanic. Forget Skyrim. The world is filled with garbage you can collect so you can build outposts on a thousand lifeless planets which you would not revisit anyway because no fucking thing is happening anyway..long story short it is a waste of time without being entertained. Where do all the near perfect scores come from you'd ask. It comes from Microsoft's bank account. They couldn't let this slide.

    Pretty much how I feel about it. The fact this game was supposedly in development like 15 years and they haven't made any progress says a lot. Their dev team is the laziest in gaming bar none. Starfield plays exactly like fallout 4 but with a combat slide and boostpack. They haven't innovated or expanded upon any area and that's unacceptable for a triple A game. Bethesda and ubisoft are the absolute kings of overselling and underdelivering.

      The idea was presented in 2013, but I would guess it didn't get out of pre-production for 1 or 2 years from there. But, the invention of lore and the galaxy design might have delayed the actual development as well so game design may have not started until around 2016ish. So there were multiple things working against it to start.

    I think Fallout 4 is Beth's best game. I've been thinking about Starfield vs Fallout 4, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim, and the Mass Effect series. All those games I compare it to have so much life and personality.
    EDIT: Another thought. Inventory management is something that is pissing me off more and more in AAA games. EVERY Beth game would be way more fun without the horrendous inventory management and item bloat.

Can't believe how prettier the game looks and without any performance hit (at least for me- not a really good computer btw) unlike ENBs. And a whole lot more ;)
