Wow! Amazing talent. I was 16 when this concert was in my hometown that night and I remember it as clearly now as I do then. You even nailed the bit at 1:30 which was always my favourite part in the solo as it just links the notes into the next part. You have brought back so many good memories. Thank you for sharing.
@@duffman7065 yeah it's very well thought out. It's interesting to listen to other versions of the ToL solo, or any of Knopfler's big solo tunes; he seems to be improvising off a "template". Which holds it together and ensures consistency, yet allows scope to improvise and play it differently each time. Good stuff!
Thanks Richard! I think they're missing because this is the Sydney 1986 version, not the original/Alchemy/Wembley etc., so Knopfler wouldnt've played those 2 notes in those versions, as he can, you know, make the same legendary solo sound different every time... ;)

I loved this 3 years ago and still do. I've watched the Sydney concert over 1000 times since I was 10 years old. Not only have I always thought the Sydney concert and the tone of the Sydney concert is by far the best, but the very extended solo in this version is Epic. I don't suppose you have the tabs....

This is very beautyfull. IDK the 1986 Sidney version untill I hear it thanks to you. Thank you for your contribution to music history. Tunnel is one of the 2-3 best solos of Mark with Sultans of Swing and Telegraph Road. I love this sound so much. You really nailed it, man and that's awsome

Thanks Khahn. I don't have any tab unfortunately, but the good thing about this solo is that the original is filmed with lots of closeups, which makes it easy to see what Mark is playing. As for the last lick, it's based around Dm pentatonic in 10th position, with lots of pull-offs, hope that helps.
Thanks Mr. Wright! I don't really teach guitar much, but I recommend learning as I did - watch the original footage and listen to it over and over. Figuring it out yourself would be far better for you than me trying to teach it! Most of the solo is close-ups of Mark's hands, which really helped. Hi Andrew, the pickups were a bridge Seymour Duncan little '59, and a late '70s Fender in the middle. Amp and pedal was Guitar Rig 2, with the Tubescreamer sim, stereo-split thru Mesa Boogie and Marshall amps/cabs, and some subtle backwards delay. Warmoth guitar. Wow! Amazing talent. I was 16 when this concert was in my hometown that night and I remember it as clearly now as I do then. You even nailed the bit at 1:30 which was always my favourite part in the solo as it just links the notes into the next part. You have brought back so many good memories. Thank you for sharing.

@@duffman7065 yeah it's very well thought out. It's interesting to listen to other versions of the ToL solo, or any of Knopfler's big solo tunes; he seems to be improvising off a "template". Which holds it together and ensures consistency, yet allows scope to improvise and play it differently each time. Good stuff!

Thanks Richard! I think they're missing because this is the Sydney 1986 version, not the original/Alchemy/Wembley etc., so Knopfler wouldnt've played those 2 notes in those versions, as he can, you know, make the same legendary solo sound different every time... ;)

I loved this 3 years ago and still do. I've watched the Sydney concert over 1000 times since I was 10 years old. Not only have I always thought the Sydney concert and the tone of the Sydney concert is by far the best, but the very extended solo in this version is Epic. I don't suppose you have the tabs....

This is very beautyfull. IDK the 1986 Sidney version untill I hear it thanks to you. Thank you for your contribution to music history. Tunnel is one of the 2-3 best solos of Mark with Sultans of Swing and Telegraph Road. I love this sound so much. You really nailed it, man and that's awsome

so very good, Peter! Unbelievable! How you could figure out the last lick of the solo! Great great job! If you could possibly post the tab please!!!!
Thanks Khahn. I don't have any tab unfortunately, but the good thing about this solo is that the original is filmed with lots of closeups, which makes it easy to see what Mark is playing. As for the last lick, it's based around Dm pentatonic in 10th position, with lots of pull-offs, hope that helps.

Thanks Mr. Wright! I don't really teach guitar much, but I recommend learning as I did - watch the original footage and listen to it over and over. Figuring it out yourself would be far better for you than me trying to teach it! Most of the solo is close-ups of Mark's hands, which really helped. To start you off, a fair bit of it is around 10th position. Hope that helps, thanks for listening :)

Hi, how do you get this sound? Emg pickups good for Knopfler sound? What pedal and amp are you using? Thanks
Hi Andrew, the pickups were a bridge Seymour Duncan little '59, and a late '70s Fender in the middle. Amp and pedal was Guitar Rig 2, with the Tubescreamer sim, stereo-split thru Mesa Boogie and Marshall amps/cabs, and some subtle backwards delay. Warmoth guitar.
