Fox acrobatics: Dolly nursing 3 kits while perched on a tall stump |

- Last year, our resident mama fox, Dolly, had a single kit (or pup, if you prefer), Frances. This year (2024) she had 3.
Dolly often nursed Frances while perched on top of her favorite tall stump, and apparently she saw no reason to do things differently this year, even though the stump was no bigger and her little ones were. She sat there, grinning, while her kits flailed around desperately, trying to nurse AND stay on the stump. As you'll see, not everyone managed to hang in there. These stumps can be slippery little suckers, right?

Poor Dolly 🤣
Great video
I like to think she's amused, but she's certainly very tolerant.
LOVE this video! LOVE this narration!
Thank you very much! I will read your comment to Dan.
had to watch again, great footage
Omg. I need to move to a natural area❤❤❤❤
🤣 Oh wow! 😍
God Bless You All
Wow. You got some rare fantastic footage on that one. The bobcats here in kansas have really hurt yhe foxes.
The coyotes are what do the real decimation to the fox population. ...they will NOT stand foxes in their territory.
Really? I didn't know that bobcats would kill foxes. Dan is less surprised. Bobcats are a little larger than foxes and seem like more aggressive hunters.
@@TexasBackyardWildlife yes. Coyotes will also kill them but are lazier than the Bobcats. As our bobcat numbers went up our fox numbers went way down. The state of Kansas sent out a survey to trappers a few years back showing their concern. The grey fox also kills or runs out the reds. Similar to the evasive european grey squirrel kills our native red or fox squirrel. The grey fox is native to north and south America with red fox numbers being increased when they were brought here for fox hunting. They were here initially but in low numbers. Spent my life learning about the fur critters and didn't know they were brought here. Always more to learn.
@@TexasBackyardWildlife bobcats can attack a fox but it is highly unlikely as they do not hunt them,I posted a reply to their comment about this not long after the initial comment that for some strange reason was deleted on this channel of all things..it is Coyotes that will actively hunt and decimate a fox population as they do all they can to expell them. Coyotes will not tolerate foxes in their territory, they are especially hard on the red fox.
I can't imagine that the two would tangle... Perhaps it depends on environmental conditions, but bobcats in the areas I know are extremely shy and stick to more densely forested areas. The foxes are definitely less shy and excel in more suburban and urban areas. They are highly adaptive, so I don't think their populations are in any real danger.
Well, sounds like something that deserves some research!

I enjoy all of your videos! 💙
That was fun!
Dolly is amazing! She does indeed look like she’s showing off, the smile tells all!
Foxes literally do nothing but smile
Isn't she great? Sitting there impassively while 3 big kits squirm and tussle and fight to feed.
