I've been visiting the Cinque Terre since 1969 and cringe at the amount of current tourism but you did a concise job of representing the beauty of the area with a bit of sweetness to boot.
Hey, how did you get there? Was it part of a tour or did you take the train? If by train, what city did you go from? I’ve always wanted to visit there.
We will be visiting from Texas in June. Can you tell me which village you stayed in and where you stayed. I am looking for something to book now. It will only be my husband and I, so anything with one bed and a private bath will do and air conditioning! Thank you. 🏖🛫
@@rhondamcgee2114 I actually stayed at a decent airbnb in La Spezia nearby the Cinque Terre - staying in the towns themselves needs booking well in advance, maybe at-least month. I first took a speedboat tour (from La Specia) of all five towns in the same day that included a swim at a beautiful grotto (inaccessible by foot) and on-foot exploration of Monterosso. I then took some day trips to the rest from La Spezia, coming back in the evening. There's a lot more places to stay in the nearby La Spezia but transportation to the Cinque Terre towns becomes a factor. I thought Riomaggiore was the most beautiful of the five, Monterosso is the one with the beach. Next time I'll probably book a place in Riomaggiore and explore the night life. Some tips for Italy: 1) use cash 2) ask for the price in small / tourist shops before buying (quanto) 3) learning a little bit of basic Italian can go a long way since the majority of Italy isn't very fluent in English (I found the same with Spain too). At times I'd use the Google translate app's "speak" function as well which had some people overjoyed. Younger business career Italians are pretty fluent in English though.
We chose Sarzana as a base to visit the Cinque Terre and it was fantastic. Authentic, relaxing with kind and welcoming people. We loved walking in the evening in its beautiful old town. We recommend it to everyone because it is little touristy and you feel at home
