South indian movies always had much better content only lacked exposure to north India. This changed after covid. North Indians are now exposed to quality contents through OTT. No surprise they ditched crap movies of Khans. Another thing is Bollywood seriously lack original content movies. Their movies these days don’t touch the heart of common people. Started with actors' fault, ended up actors not having work. To make the industry survive again Producers must choose good scripts and Actors must act accordingly without demanding huge money.
Bollywood needs to scout new actors and new scripts that fits to this generation. If they keep relying on already established actors, there will be no chance for new actors and a script that does not fit to the actor will have no scope. Out of the films that were released recently, I only loved Munjya. The film was based on a folk tale, and was executed beautifully. They should use the film as an example to come up with new ideas and take ideas from youngsters as well. 😅
Problem is Bollywood doesn't know the ground reality. Everyone are living in this Bandra Juhu crowd and lack the on ground reality and they have abandoned the art of making mass masala films. The fact is bollywood was the pioneer of mass cinema. Now Telugu and Tamil cinema have mastered the art of commercial mass cinema. Also Bollywood lacks single screens and their stars are much more accessible now and their aura is lost. Only potential star which I find is Ranbir Kapoor. Also an average age of a director in Bollywood is 50 plus which shows how many directors are losing their charm and don't have touch with the ground.
I am from tamilnadu. Actually i was really surprised about the downfall of Bollywood. But after you have mentioned about actors behaviour during sets like producer's paying actors dermatologist fee etc.. i think this downfall was well deserved. Nepotism was always so bad in Bollywood comparing to south industries. Here eventhough the starkids get a chance to act in movies, they won't demean or disgrace any self made actor. What they did to SSR was unforgettable. It seems like they never learnt anything from their mistakes.

Its not like bollywood don't make good movies. They just live in their own lala land and think audience is limited to only elite circles of the country even if they make rooted stories with grounded back drop, their main theme is to preach the audience and prove them uncivilized and conservative. Bollywood filmmakers especially the young generation of directors have lost touch and doesn't know the pulse of people. The reason most comercially successful films comes from telugu industry is that, filmmakers there still know how to present families, society and human emotions of an indian. Lucky Bhaskar and Pushpa 2 (completely different genres) recently released films have shown the family dynamic, husband-wife relationship and human emotions beautifully - which bollywood lacks, they can't make movies like vivah, hum aapke hai kaun and bajrangi bhaijaan anymore.
FINALLY.... The "Market Forces" are seen in action. CONTENT, and NOT Celeberities, is now the MOST IMPORTANT criteria for success. Long have these "Stars" demanded eye-watering sums of money to act in films, irrespective of the outcome.
In early 2000 in sri lanka the bollywood movies are the trend. In every TV channel they are fighting againt each others to show bollywood movies for the first time . Sadly today no one able to even name a recently release bollywood movie. Malayalam industry now overtaken the bollywood here in sri lanka
Any movie I avoid going to the theater. Going to a theater especially a multiplex is a chore. The nearest one is 5km away but going to the venue, parking, climbing up to the last floor, navigating through the crowd, wait for the doors to open, waste time through 30 min of ads and then finally see the movie and come home. This is a 4hr or more slot in my day. I rather wait for the movie to be on a OTT and watch conveniently. Let me not even get into the ridiculous ticket cost especially on opening day where it can be easily Rs. 1000 per person if it is a big cast or big production.
For me the general Hindi audience have got more grudge and hate ever since Sushant Singh Rajput death. If Pushpa and Pushpa 2 which are a low grade movies which are celebrated but not normal Bollywood films then the people there really hate them . Movies like KGF , RRR are excellent ones and those making money there shouldn't be a problem but when cringe, masala films like pushpa and pushpa 2 being celebrated Bollywood really need to realise and introspect.

In the early 2000s,In Sri Lanka, people used to watch a lot of Bollywood movies, and TV channels often aired them. But now, there's a growing fanbase for Malayalam cinema. Personally, I can't even recall the last time I watched a Bollywood movie.Despite having high budgets and flashy productions, Bollywood often lacks the depth and creativity found in Malayalam movies. Malayalam cinema, on the other hand, consistently delivers exceptional storytelling, relatable characters, and meaningful content all while working with relatively low budgets. It's proof that good content and creativity matter more than just the money spent.

Bollywood has taken audience for granted, and got complacent with the remakes from south since audiences weren't aware. Bollywood never credited an original film for the remake up until recent times. Now, tables have turned. Audiences have choice to pick what they want to watch without anybody's preachings! Well, Bollywood isn't over, a good film is always appreciated. I feel so sad as a marathi I've been watching bollywood growing up.. So sad to see it's downfall in front of my eyes... South is just more stable rn with content driven films from malayalam and talugu and magnum opus front telugu alone has snatched the crown from bollywood. Now they are trying to copy South by bringing south director like in Jawan which was ultrathrash movie.
Bollywood needs to scout new actors and new scripts that fits to this generation. If they keep relying on already established actors, there will be no chance for new actors and a script that does not fit to the actor will have no scope. Out of the films that were released recently, I only loved Munjya. The film was based on a folk tale, and was executed beautifully. They should use the film as an example to come up with new ideas and take ideas from youngsters as well. 😅

Problem is Bollywood doesn't know the ground reality. Everyone are living in this Bandra Juhu crowd and lack the on ground reality and they have abandoned the art of making mass masala films. The fact is bollywood was the pioneer of mass cinema. Now Telugu and Tamil cinema have mastered the art of commercial mass cinema. Also Bollywood lacks single screens and their stars are much more accessible now and their aura is lost. Only potential star which I find is Ranbir Kapoor. Also an average age of a director in Bollywood is 50 plus which shows how many directors are losing their charm and don't have touch with the ground.

I am from tamilnadu. Actually i was really surprised about the downfall of Bollywood. But after you have mentioned about actors behaviour during sets like producer's paying actors dermatologist fee etc.. i think this downfall was well deserved. Nepotism was always so bad in Bollywood comparing to south industries. Here eventhough the starkids get a chance to act in movies, they won't demean or disgrace any self made actor. What they did to SSR was unforgettable. It seems like they never learnt anything from their mistakes.

Its not like bollywood don't make good movies. They just live in their own lala land and think audience is limited to only elite circles of the country even if they make rooted stories with grounded back drop, their main theme is to preach the audience and prove them uncivilized and conservative. Bollywood filmmakers especially the young generation of directors have lost touch and doesn't know the pulse of people. The reason most comercially successful films comes from telugu industry is that, filmmakers there still know how to present families, society and human emotions of an indian. Lucky Bhaskar and Pushpa 2 (completely different genres) recently released films have shown the family dynamic, husband-wife relationship and human emotions beautifully - which bollywood lacks, they can't make movies like vivah, hum aapke hai kaun and bajrangi bhaijaan anymore.

In early 2000 in sri lanka the bollywood movies are the trend. In every TV channel they are fighting againt each others to show bollywood movies for the first time .
Sadly today no one able to even name a recently release bollywood movie.

Any movie I avoid going to the theater. Going to a theater especially a multiplex is a chore. The nearest one is 5km away but going to the venue, parking, climbing up to the last floor, navigating through the crowd, wait for the doors to open, waste time through 30 min of ads and then finally see the movie and come home. This is a 4hr or more slot in my day. I rather wait for the movie to be on a OTT and watch conveniently. Let me not even get into the ridiculous ticket cost especially on opening day where it can be easily Rs. 1000 per person if it is a big cast or big production.
For me the general Hindi audience have got more grudge and hate ever since Sushant Singh Rajput death.
If Pushpa and Pushpa 2 which are a low grade movies which are celebrated but not normal Bollywood films then the people there really hate them .
Movies like KGF , RRR are excellent ones and those making money there shouldn't be a problem but when cringe, masala films like pushpa and pushpa 2 being celebrated Bollywood really need to realise and introspect.

One bad year doesn't mean that the industry is over. Bollywood has a good lineup in 2025, like Sikandar, War 2, Housefull 5, Alpha, Sitaare Zameen Par and others, they will surely make a comeback. At the end of 2022, everyone felt the same that South will continue dominating, but in 2023 Bollywood had 4 films that crossed the 500cr mark.
It was needed for them, now they will atleast get humbled and grounded to their roots.

I feel so sad as a marathi I've been watching bollywood growing up.. So sad to see it's downfall in front of my eyes... South is just more stable rn with content driven films from malayalam and talugu and magnum opus front telugu alone has snatched the crown from bollywood. It's a shame that a regional industry has outgrown bollywood. Don't get me wrong I love telugu cinema too. It's great history with actors like late senior NTR and late ANR. All of the industries in India have Rick histories from the 50s but what they do jow matters, I see ny friends say that it doesn't matter becoz bollywood has a rich history but South has a better panel of films from the 60s and 50s..

The hindi movie called Sikandar ka Muqadar is better movie with good story, acting and content

People forget that Chotta Chetan, a Malayalam film dubbed in Hindi was the biggest hit in Hindi in 1984. Before that Man ka Angaan and other dubbed films were big hits in Hindi. After Chotta Chetan also Appu Raja, Roja, Bombay, Humse Hai Muqabla, Hindustani were big hits in Hindi. In 1940's also the Pan India Chandralekha was a blockbuster. It flopped in Tamil. But, in Hindi it was a blockbuster.
