Very well made video and thank you !!! After owning a new K1600 GA, the miles started to climb up and so the tech problems. I was very disappointed cause I loved that bike. It came to the point that I did not know what will go wrong on the next ride. The dealer had told me that on every visit, any warranty work, they have to follow BMW's instructions even if the dealer knows what needs to be replaced. I got tired and sold it. I was never an HD guy and so, the next bike close to the K was the new GW DCT Tour. Boy, what a pleasure of a machine. I ride it anytime I can and commute to work daily too. I literally forget at times that I am on 2 wheels. Smooth like butter. The DCT's computer learns your riding habits which is so smart. So easy to work on, cheaper parts and accessories, dealers all over. Happy riding to all.

Your right Mike. Compared to my old Harley (street glide), the new wing is much more comfortable as far as fatigue goes. I can simply ride it further with less saddle soreness at the end of the day. You said it very well, the Harley compared to the new wing is more work. The new wing is effortless to ride and the seating position is more ergonomically correct. - You can put me into the camp that upgraded to an aftermarket seat. Mustang saddle is working out great. 400 milers on the backroads is no problem.

the wing needs to add an extra riding mode; harley mode. for the brief time you may want to make a lot of noise and bark. but you are right, you dont know what you are missing until you ride the wing. the comfort, performance, and how peaceful it is to ride is just phenomenal

    • @maikeli7

@@MrEpipe people still ask me if I miss my Harleys, but I must be honest: No!
Only bike I miss was my 2021 Kawasaki Z H2 SE.

My wife and I would tour around on a 2013 Road King Classic. When I say tour, I mean San Diego to Sedona AZ and our asses were done. Since I've switched to the 2018 GW Tour DCT, she loves the back seat and we can go further and longer (that's what she said). More room, comfy seat, and leg movement for her.

I had a 2014 GW, I loved that bike. I am 6’4” 280+ I was never really comfortable on the Goldwing. I didn’t like that my feet were under me.
Now I loved the GW and the bells and whistles on the GW.
I put on highway pegs and my left leg would get hot in the left side of the engine.
What I like about water cooled bike is not worrying about it over heating
I had a Yamaha Venture next, V-4 water cooled. Good bike but a long bike i didn’t like they eat it handled the corners.
If you are looking for ease, comfort, long trip reliability and plastic bike get a GW.
If you want American steel and hot loud and American iconic bike get a Harley. If you like to wrench get a Harley
I have a 09 Ultra and I have had it on a few trips and i like it. I like the way it feels.
If I was going to be doing long trips I would get a GW and a tall boy seat. You cannot beat the reliability of a GW.
My problem I love all motorcycles. I wish I had the money and time to ride a bunch of different ones.

Hi, as you had both harley and GW. do you prefer the wing only because of the comfort on long rides? Only reason I ask is because I'm looking for my first brand new bike. I'm male nearly 50 years old. I'm stook between the new wing and harley davidson fatboy. I'd take the wing without thinking if I put a lot of long days in the saddle but truth is I will be a fair weather rider. Long weekend rides behind me now. Any suggestions

    • @theramblingsoflarry9290
      @theramblingsoflarry9290 4 года назад

Dan The Chippie to me both are great bikes. Mike makes some good points. I would like to ride the new GW DCT.
Pro with GW it is a bullet proof bike. I known people that have risen 300,000 miles very little maintenance. Modern GW is a two wheel car.
My only con was it is made for people 5’9-6’1” max, I am over 6’3 and fat. So i felt cramped all the time on the bike.
Only reason I sold was someone offered me a good price.
Con maybe pro: not a lot of add ins, other than paint it comes complete.
My bike after wing was a Yamaha Venture deluxe full touring bike. Big enough but had a long wheel base and I didn’t like the way it cornered.
I picked up my HD 09 Ultra Classic to clean up and sell.
I fell in love with it. I like the way it feels, they way it rides and corners. I am also bought into the HD culture. I live the way it looks.
HD is family. Now GW has a pretty good club and following too. But HD is a culture that bridges race and age.
To me if you are going to be a weekend rider and small weekend trips get the HD
If you are going to put on some miles buy a wing

Thanks, BG! I haven't made as many motovlogs lately, but I'm fixing to.
Say, did you see the Harley folks have a 135 c.i. engine now as a Stage IV? I cannot begin to imagine how HOT that thing would run! Not to mention the problems that result from a Stage IV build. I did one once and it contributed to why I left H-D and moved to Honda.
Faster is a nice idea, but I'm getting too old for that crap now. Eyesight ain't worth a damn, and my reaction time is slowed by gabapentin.

I find the comfort is relative. They are both good in different ways. One thing for sure, I do not miss the noise and vibration of the limited when I'm on the goldwing. I've even considered putting the stock mufflers back on it. The stock seat is just fine on the goldwing but I needed the back rest and highway pegs to really get comfortable. Wife does not like that seat at all - no padding compared to the limited. For 2 up touring, definitely the Harley, unless I got a trailer and that's not likely. If I could have only one, goldwing for sure.

  • @moose3971

The comparison is interesting, there are positives and negatives to both, for sure, I do like the Honda more and more every day. It would take an amazing motorcycle to make me change and go back to the Clutch. Comfort, I like mine, for less than 300 I have better padding, did well on an almost 500 mile day, no issues, the lack of heat, sound and the ease of riding made the miles easy to lay down. i was still going strong after the miles, Setup camp, picked up food, made a fire, and ate, on the HD, hard to say, never took it on that kind of trip.

Mengey O had two Goldwing 1800 and now electraglide limited I find the Harley more confortable but it is not in the same leage as the goldwing, if you had a Goldwing before then you know how far you want to push the enveloppe of the Harley, with proper tires and at leasr 35 pds of pressure in the suspension beleive me you can hold your place except for the agility but you can freaking bank it intelegently as far as the goldwing and with that torque you get out of these curves with honour.

I ride old school Goldwing 2012 and the seat is way above and beyond what the 2018 Wing is. I have had 3 Goldwings and never had to get an aftermarket seat. I have 52k on present bike and still love the seat. My son just bought a 2020 Road Glide and I test rode it and I did not get to the end of the street and I did not like the seat. I will stay with the Wing and stick seat works for me.

I’m thinking the GW is more comfortable for those that fit. I’ve tried the previous 2 generations of GW and felt really cramped. I’m 6’3” with a 36” inseam. I have a 07 HD Road King with the stock seat. Honestly has the most legroom of any Harley I’ve ever been on. Newer HDs push me too close to the tank. I have a shorter (than me) friend that loves his GW. I guess comfort is different for different people, for me, I need my legroom! I remember going on a long tour with 4 GW guys. They could ride through a whole tank of gas. I had to constantly remind them I was on a Harley and needed a butt break every 100 miles! They got a kick out of that! Still, for me it would have been worse with my legs cramped up on a Wing... Just gotta find what works for you.

Enjoyed your perspective on the two bikes. I have been riding Gold Wings for nearly 35 years and was a little disappointed in the new body style when launched because I like the larger bike and storage. I thought about going to a Road Glide in 2018 but didn't. I like the looks of the Harley, and the ride is fine too but for my riding I think I'll stay with the Wing. One of these days I might test ride a 2018 and up to see how I like it. Until then my 2008 is running and doing just fine for me.

A year ago, I bought a 2016 Triumph Tiger 800 adventure bike . Worst stock seat in the 50 yrs I have been riding! 30 mins , I would have to get off bike and stand around for 10 mins. The seat would cause me to keep slipping toward the tank. I bought a Sargent Seat for $600. The only problem is that they would not sell me just the riders seat only ,I also had to get the passenger seat . A month ago, I rode 600 miles in one day, No Monkey Butt! My 2015 Victory Cross Country,on the other hand, has the best stock seat! Like sitting in a big catchers mitt !

    • @maikeli7
      @maikeli7  4 года назад

No, I have never ridden one of the older gold wings. I was never into their bulky, bubbly style. In the case of two passenger cruising on a grand tour, the older one would probably be much more comfortable and offer much more storage. For a single rider, I think this bike is ideal for commuting, long touring, and inner-city getting around. And it goes very much like a sport bike when you want it to!! 😎👍🏻

The old wing is a much better touring machine than the new. It is right there with the new water cooled M8 motored ultra limited but without all the modern electronics. Never rode a wing. Sometimes I am curious, sometimes not. It would be on the short list if I was replacing my 2009 RT. Thing is, I'd rather just get a second bike. The RT is paid for and still works fine. My only real complaints are that maintenance is an event and if something breaks, it hurts or can. It's just very different from a HD and a GW. The big K bike is interesting, but more expensive to maintain and more expensive period. It's a rocket though. With a HD, I would get a RK or a FLHTP. Basic bikes. I don't need nav or BT or the gadgetry. ABS, cruiser control are the must haves. Wind protection too.

Wouldn't even hold my helmet, laptop case, nothing. Very uncomfortable for my wife. The pipe drone and terrible buffeting was a real deal breaker. We are both superfit mid 50s. I am 155 and see is 105. The infotainment, android auto, bosch lean angle abs, traction control, anti-slip electric cush, suspension, fit and finish, paint, quiet exhaust better low speed handling, better center of gravity etc forced me to reluctantly purchase the harley. Very disappointed with the Honda ST1800, err I mean goldwing.

Carried more with me on my Wing than I did 2 years before on my 2-week ride up the East Coast. No problems!
      But then, I’m a 260-lb 50 year-old travelling 1 up.

I have been riding for over 40 years now had goldwing k1200lt k1600gtle r1200rt yamaha turbo suzuki gs1150 and few smaller bikes the k1200lt was the best for my wife and I for confort and wind protection the r1200rt was the best for city riding as for the k1600gtle it is a rocket to much for touring you don't need all that hp. goldwing my wife did not like the wind protection. I now have a ultra limited and has plenty hp to have fun my favorite bike . Ride safe

Yeah, I don't have a passenger, so all the luggage is for me, and I'm OK with the wind thing. I am not into loud noises, so the fact that the '19 model has a less-than-overwhelming speaker setup is not an issue. Heck, I listen to my stuff through my helmet anyway.
After 15 years of Harleys, the past 3 years of Honda have been the most enjoyable yet!

Hey Mike, what do you think about the new front end? This new wing came out the year after I bought my Street Glide and I wasn't ready to sell a new bike and take the loss. But now I'm really tired of the buffeting on my HD and the rough ride was not fixed on the Rushmore bikes. I think I want a full frame mounted fairing and a different front end design that will fix my two complaints about a batwing Harley. Thoughts? Thanks.

For me, the new Wing is a massive leap ahead of the Harley. After riding a new Wing for 4 months, I rode my friend’s Ultra Limited (same model I switched to my Wing from), and I was horrified by what I used to love.
But that’s just my take. You need to do a test ride to really get a feel. I recommend the DCT version. I know one thing: Harley has lost its power over me!

I’ve never rode a gold wing so I don’t know how much better they are vs a Harley. I do know one time I had a pair of gold wings pass me on the Interstate at 75 miles per hour and they kinda floated pass me and both the guy and his wife looked so relaxed . Then they were gone . So maybe a gold wing would be the better bike. Stay safe 😬👍

Also, your GW friends sound too tame. You wouldn’t get that bullshit from me. And on my Kawasaki Z H2, I’d lose you so fast your head would spin. That bike can go 200 mph.
But I’m older and more damaged nowadays, so I’m taking it much easier. I’ve done all the speedy twisties up and down the east coast, been across the country, seen the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Sturgis, the Great Plains, the Harley-Davidson Museum, Michigan’s UP, Canada, and tons more.
Owned 4 Harleys, did all the mods, made all the motovlogs, enjoyed my bikes for 14 years, evolved past them, and now, I’m learning the saxophone, music theory, and Jazz.
I don’t give a fuck about brands or stupid loyalty to brands. I buy what I want and enjoy my freedom.

@@alfonsodennis8450 Try that with me. I’ll smoke you. I know this for a fact. The DCT in Sport mode will take a 114. I used to ride a 114-aggressively.
Tore up the Tail of the Dragon on my M8 114, scraped the floor boards and under pillars to a knife edge.
And the 114 wasn’t good enough for me. Got the DCT, and routinely abandoned all my Harley riders on every road. They simply couldn’t keep up. And I have video evidence. Look up my Road to Hawk’s Nest video. I left all three of my friends and quickly went out of comm range. Or my Maikeli7 Rides the Back of the Dragon video, where one friend crashed just trying to keep up, fell so far behind he got careless and careened off a curve.
Or on the road in South Dakota, when Moose’s stock ‘17 Ultra Limited couldn’t even maintain 75 MPH.
He ended up getting a DCT.
