Wow, just wow. When Kat talks, she sounds so sweet and innocent and yet when she sings, she releses so much power that you just can't believe the sweet person you were talking to...can relese that much. Babes in Toyland are kickass.
Got to hang with Lori in Austin while on tour a few years ago. Freakin down to earth and rad to hang out even for a short while. Minneapolis has been home to some excellent musicians. No matter how well known they become. Much love and respect. Always. You are our mothers.
I only got into this band about 3 weeks ago after years of reading about them, i regret taking so long to listen to them, fucking inspirational! I like every song iv'e heard of there's, its crazy lol.
People like Kat and Courtney have always existed and always will. The only difference was, in the 90's, people actually paid attention and they got famous, so you guys know about them. Ever heard of the Coathangers, Little Claw, Anemia Prevails or any of the other millions of loud, angry, awesome girls making music of all types? Seek it out for fricks sake. The corporate ogre isn't gonna spoon feed them to you and your nostalgia is holding our culture back.
Nah Kat was an innovator. Truly on of a kind. Besides i couldn’t careless about empowered woman bs, I like Kat because she rocked hard. Babes were cool as shit
I met Lori Barbero several years ago. She was bartending in an Austin, Tx incredible dive (The White Horse). There were several of us, no one knew who she was and she was very nice. We didn't know and she didn't tell us. Cool.
Weren't Kat and Courtney Love in several early bands together? I remember the late 80's and early 90's alternative which was cool, I thought Nirvana was good though. It was the B and C crew like Candlebox and Bush that really killed the alternative stuff.
Tim Kilgore The band went under a few names Sugar Babylon, Sugar Baby Doll etc. But is on RUclips full EP as Pagan Babies. Listen to it through cable ear/headphones otherwise it will sound unintelligible
@@dukehalliday3622 No, she wasn't. Courtney did some rehersal with BYT (she wasn't able to play, at the time) at their first, but then flew to LA to organise concerts, as per Kat interview.
I saw this band in 1996 in a parking lot south of Mission in San Francisco and it was one of t he best shows I've seen even though I froze my ass off. It's too bad today's music is so weak. The 90's was a strong decade for music. Enjoy.
True pioneers! Babes, L7 and Lunachicks were pre-Riot Grrrl and considered themselves equal with dudes, not apart. I love Bikini Kill, Bratmobile and Heavens to Betsy, but these other 3 bands created a path for them to follow
I'd consider it their weakest LP, but I still like it. It's still got good songs on it though like Sweet '69, Surd, Oh Yeah!, and Hello. I also really like their cover of All By Myself...I do agree that there was something different about the production. Or maybe it has to do with as Kat said in the video, the vocal harmonies. They're pretty layer-y.
Now this was filmed while I was working with JJ and Ida No at Fred Meyers and we were super into Babes in Toyland. @bjornzek damn ,I was hoping it wasn't true.We already lost so many of ,imo, the best artists out there, like Kurt,Chris,Layne,Chester,Scott,n so many more.Praying she gets better🙏
@astronot29 Why did you post your statement here? or did you post your statement on every video uploaded from the U.S.A.? You do know that there is no one alive today that had anything to do with that.
Kat, you will never read this but, you were cuter and more of a badass than Courtney. you actually made me cry with a song, she never could. It was "Gone".
I get what they were trying to do. I just wish Nemesisters had been a better record, especially considering that they never followed it up. So much of the raw fury and loose garage band vibe that made them great was missing.
ohhhh , So courtney love wants to be these girls but never could do it .So she lives off Nirvana money . But Babes n Toyland is real deal bad ass . Love it . New in 2020.
Yeah, Courtney pays medical bills for one band member (Kat) and employed another (Lori) as her personal assistant for years. She lived in the Four Seasons and the Château Marmont, drove a Porsche Courtney bought her. Courtney had her sent catered dinner every single night, even Saturdays and Sundays. She met movie stars and rock stars, flew even more places around the world than when her band was big and touring, and was gifted jewellery by Courtney after an event who said, “here, of course you won’t wear it. I don’t. But you can probably sell this for like $60,000 if you ever need to.” Considering how they did and occasionally do still talk about her, I think Courtney has proven to be a good ally and advocate to these girls. Which is more than deserving, because she lived (however briefly) rent free with Lori, sharing a bedroom, and learned quite a lot from Kat too.
Yeah, the drummer heard Alice Cooper's "Halo Of Flies" from the Killer album & got all inspired. What a great song. Heard a pretty decent cover by The Melvins last year...I was just playing Cub, L7, Catholic Girls the other day and BIT was the highlight. Hard to believe Karen Carpenter was a decent drummer, and April Lawton of Ramatam was playing solid rock gtr in 1972. Only girl bands were GTO's, Fancy, Fanny & The Runaways back then it seemed...oh and members of Finn Riggins and Beggar's Opera
funny but bevis and butthead introduced me to this band. I know the name of the episode had "babes" in it. "babes R us" maybe? A shame when you buy the show it doesn't have the music videos in it. You can find some good bands that way.
it's a shame they didn't get really big during their time. They totally deserved it.
They got big enough for us to be talking about them right? Loved them at the time
They were huge . In my mind anyway and when I saw them live it blew my mind
Alternative, and especially grunge, were falling by the wayside around 1995. Rap and electronic were replacing actual singers and musicians

I’ve had it since I was like 16 … loved it then love it now & always will 🤘🏼👩🏻
All 3 are fire signs, no wonder they have such fierce, passionate music.
How I started playing bass? My brother got his hand stuck in a pasta machine and couldn't play, so he gave it to me...

Gail-Ann Dorsey started playing exactly the same way. What are the odds?

Babes In Toyland were by far the best of the early 90s girl grunge bands and it's great to see some footage of these cool chicks. Rock-on Kat!!!
ugh I love them so much
And they're all fire signs.
To this day, still one of my favorite bands ever
these girls are fun, relaxed, talented and totally intense live!
