In this video we assemble a robot arm kit. It uses 5 simple DC motors and 5 gear boxes. While this kit was designed as a simple toy, I believe that we can hack it to be controlled from an arduino. From there the possibilities are endless. This is part 1.

I have one of these and was thinking of finally building it. Will be interesting to watch your work on this.
Mancan you assemble in a hurry! But I did notice the instructions in use. I'd say first get a power supply connected and lose the battery power, although it does look like it uses them for a counter weight. I remember hacking the Radio Shack robot arm from the early 80's what fun. This looks even better can't wait for more. Thanks for sharing this.
Looks like a good start for robotics learning for someone interested in that
I also look forward to see what use you put it too!
Looking fwd to the next vid in this mini series. No idea how you have room for all this stuff lol
+Michael Padovani I don't have room. My spare bedroom looks like warehouse.
Hey! Nice work! Can you show, how to connect power supply instead of batteries ?
Nice build, L298 motor drivers could come in handy :)
+Frank Alvarez Yes indeed
6 years ago? I have a lot of content to catch up on!
The arm will not work in reverse . Are you able to throw any light on this please
I got this kit for my kids last Christmas, and we had a blast. I might just try hooking it up to an arduino too. There is an expansion kit, that we have, which lets you hook it up to a PC. The only negative thing I have heard is that the arm drifts as it does not really know where the motor position is.
+Maarkaus J Yep, they are just plain and simple DC motors...but... It works great and does not cost too much.
You need a power screwdriver or a robot arm that acts like one. HA HA
+Carl Davis I'm going to need an assistant before long.
My husband & son had built one a few months ago
Just turned it on to play & it’s making a clicking noise? Any ideas?
Probably gears skipping, from a bad tooth
when you get a way for the arduino to know where the robot arm is it will go from a sub $100 toy to a $1000 machine. I don't believe there's a way to do it, hope you find one
wtf my romote does not work it can go forward and grip but i cant undo or ungrip any help pls
I want to build a more real life iron man suit. I have bad legs and back and shoulder. so I want to build a new body I can wear as a suit. and power it with recycled lithium batteries.
You and Sigourney Weaver. Not an iron man suit but better.
I want to build a more real life iron man suit. I have bad legs and back and shoulder. so I want to build a new body I can wear! use recycle . and yes thumbs up!!!
