This was the laptop I was looking at for a while. Haven’t finished the video but I know the cooling is the one thing Lenovo did right with this machine.
Yup it’s so good that it’s being allot heavier and heavier than the razerblade yet it performs significantly worse and has a worse battery life. The performance is so bad that in witcher3 it got 70.9 FPS while using a 2080 max q but the blade with a lesser 2070 max q managed to get 68.9. The Lenovo is a disappointment

I have been using this gaming laptop since 2019 and it's still going great! I only had to replace the battery once because I kept it connected the whole time without the battery protection.
I just ordered one today with the 2070 Max-Q, with 3 year warranty including accidental coverage. I bought it to "replace" my Alienware 13 R3 that's died twice now and I figured out the issue was cheap, non-USB spec USB cables I used to hook up a controller. They build up a static charge, then dischanged through the USB port frying the internals. Assuming it gets fixed I'll just be selling it to offset the cost of the Lenovo. It's not really the Alienware's fault hardware wise, but after dealing with the customer support/service, I'm done with it and never getting a Dell/Alienware product again. Their customer service leaves A LOT to be desired and their warranty prices are horrible. The best they could quote me was $180 for a year just for parts/labor. With the Lenovo, I got 3 years warranty for parts/labor (including shipping), AND accidental(also 3 years) coverage for $135 total.
Alienware have always left me with a terrible taste in my moulth. Bought one in 2014 and didnt get to use it for 6 months. They sent me broken alienware after broken alienware when I got it warrantied.
I ordered on March 3rd. Expected ship date March 18th. Dave drops this video March 8th. Less than a week later my expected ship date gets pushed out to April 30th. Coincidence???
Ah good. Was waiting for a review. Seems like a hot contender for me this year. Also that slick non-space exterior design is making it super interesting.
Lenovo is a little talked about and reviewed company but they are great and priced reasonably. I switched from a MacBook Pro to a Lenovo and I'm happy other than Windows. I've never been a Windows fan. I highly recommend their Legion line and thanks for this review! I'm so happy to see my computer getting reviewed on your channel!
I was super excited about buying this laptop. I got the one with RTX 2060. I do a fair bit of 3d modelling, Adobe, Cad etc. After a week, my avg battery on non gaming work was less than 2 hrs. The gaming itself, F1 2018 was playing at 60fps high, while my desktop with gtx 980 was playing at 114 fps, so not great. Lastly one of the key, from the delicate keyboard came off, inspite of me not even being a gamer, the keyboard in general is very poor.End of 10th day, I returned the laptop, even though I had high hopes for it. In my opinion MSI makes better gaming laptops, where Lenovo makes good thinkpads, this adventure from Lenovo needs more work.
Just ordered mine today , seems like a great Bargain was $380 off, i7 9750 H RTX 2070 Max Q , 512 PCIE + I TB HDD 17 inch IPS anti glare G-sync panel , with 144hz , and 300 nits ,even though I wish this was 400 nits but they did have that options , and Since I will be using it for gaming it should be fine ! You are absolutely correct about it lad. I've had the y720 but it got stolen March last year. Now i got an Asus Strix, same specs as you but with 120Hz screen and better colour accuracy but BOI the thermals are shit. CPU 90+ Celsius while heavy gaming. Haven't seen anyone talk about this at all in their Y740 review, but it's something to consider. When you have headphones plugged in and the fans are running at max speed, at lower volumes you can hear a low humming noise quite audibly in the background. I think because it's related to the fans there's nothing you can do about it unforunately. Otherwise, it's a fantastic laptop.

I ordered on March 3rd. Expected ship date March 18th. Dave drops this video March 8th. Less than a week later my expected ship date gets pushed out to April 30th. Coincidence???
That's a month+ away like Why'd that happen??
Punani Lover I was told it was a material/part shortage holding up production. What part exactly? The reps i spoke with didnt know.
Thanks for putting Overwatch back in the FPS benchmarks, Dave
You forgot to mention the Thunderbolt 3 port but it's ok, it's listed on the web site either way
well, for lenovo y730 he did mention about TB3 tho. so no way lenovo remove that for this one
@Tatsooya Suwo not all usb-c support thunderbolt 3.
Glad we know Dave can be trusted, if this was anyone else I would almost think he had been paid this review was so positive
Ah good. Was waiting for a review. Seems like a hot contender for me this year. Also that slick non-space exterior design is making it super interesting.
I've found the subtitle translated to Chinese shows 'lenovo' to '美帝良心'. It's awesome!!!!!
Translates into "American Conscience" (thought I'd save people a google translate)
Talks about the screen. *Immediately cuts to Daniel getting rekt by a wave.*
I don't think I've ever been this early, but I can't wait for a new iteration of the Dell XPS 15
Same
@박근우 my 9550 is from the stone ages 🤣
@박근우 i have the 9570 as well, and it's actually been holding up, but i'm just curious to see new updates to the design and internals
Really like your videos! You keep them short and concise.
Thanks Dave I've been looking into your y730 video and liked it but now this is the one I'm buying
Hey Dave, do you know that Dell is using your review on the Alienware m15 as promotion/marketing on their official product page?!!
Dell isnt the only one from what ive seen around....bro making $$$$$$$$$$$$
The Killer 1550 is a rebranded Intel WiFi card. If you don’t like the Killer software you can uninstall it and switch to Intel drivers.
Seriously?? I've been tricked.
Whoever made those Chinese subtitles, you are a legend.
Just wanted to say that I always watch your videos, and I really like your reviews, they are precise and really informative! Keep up the good work
Said $1400, and the table says $1900 and now I am so confused.
Ikr wtf
$1400+*
ha Ja most likely different models and different prices, cheapest one is 1400 while high end model is 1900
ha Ja Lenovo Legion Y740 15 RTX 2060 Review ruclips.net/video/LSF04f3JZtU/видео.html
I bought i7 10th gen, 16 gb ram, graphics card 8 gb RTX max-q for $2100
"Keyboard water resistant"
Rolls an sealed coke can on the keyboard.
This somehow made my day. 🤣
"A sealed coke"
🤣
WTF how is F1 2018 only at 60fps and Dave says it plays Battlefield V at 90+ fps
What is the fps for F1 2018 with the charger plugged in? Laptops run games much slower on battery
Great laptop for the price
Dude the ports on the back is a big plus. I know it’s not specs but I feel like the design would make the experience that much better.
Trust me mate the gaming experience is one of the best i've had amongst gaming laptops😍
I'd like to see how does this compare to the Y540 or even Y530!
Legion Y540 and Y530 are best at their specs but Legion Y740 comes with a more stronger RAM, Graphic card and better display....
m waiting for your review about Asus zephyrus gx701... lovely video
I can proudly say as a Legion User ...
Legion is a Great Gaming Laptop with Elegant look.
Dave a couple items to add about this computer is there is a 2080 with 32gb memory option. No reviews or benchmark tests have occurred with this model. Which I happened to have JUST purchased. On sale so for "daylightsavings" 20% off!!!
Got the one with 1060 i7 8th Gen and even that one is awesome. Lenovo did great with these models. I am very happy with the laptop.
lenovo builts best laptops imo. I have the y720 and this things is a beast. I got this for a 900 dollars more than a year ago. 1060 6gb and i7 7700hq. this thing has awesome termals and built qualiyy
You are absolutely correct about it lad. I've had the y720 but it got stolen March last year. Now i got an Asus Strix, same specs as you but with 120Hz screen and better colour accuracy but BOI the thermals are shit. CPU 90+ Celsius while heavy gaming. On Legion they were upped a little from 80. Enjoy the Y720 while it last man. Cheers.
@@Alex_Gabriel thanks man. sorry for your loss. thermals are everything for me because im student who lives in dormitory and im using the laptop like a desktop computer case. I bought 2TB FireCuda SSHD and 2x8 2400mHz CL14 HyperX memory. I will buy 240HZ BenQ monitor and do liquid metal for CPU and GPU. Then this thing will fly to the moon. :D and gonna buy the next gen of NVIDIA card for using externally.
I want to see a review for Y540 with GTX 1660 Ti please
me too! I am so confused between y540 and acer nitro 7!
You can go for asus strix hero iii with 1660ti
sagar saini do you have it? If yes then how is it? I am thinking on buying it so I want some tips to get the best value laptop..
@@kagemitsu-0343 its a beast honestly screen is superb and performance is quite good....i am getting 180fps on ultra in pubg......110 fps on assassins creed odyssey .....95 fps on far cry new dawn.....alll on ultra settings..
sagar saini damn that’s amazing. That’s the 540?
Informative and short! There is nothing better 👍🏽
Great review video. Dave, your proficiency and style of reviewing is nailed down.
I love you for showing the power brick!!
4.85 kg? Is that a typing error? Otherwise thats not even a laptop haha :)
2.2kg. I think he meant to write 4.85 lbs
@@ashthegeek7400 ahh makes sense now.
@@ashthegeek7400 that makes waaaay more sense haha :)
@Victor Schumann maxq can be lighter though... MaxQ is a reduced thermal design, thus not needing to be heavier and can afford to be lighter
5.1 lbs / 2.2 kg says the Lenovo website.
I'm really looking forward to laptops with GTX 1660 Tis.
So, I'm not the only one 😂
But this GPU is trash
@@spongycookies2680 ??
JG14 Gerhard_Bar Yes the 1660ti has one of the worst price/performance ratio
@@spongycookies2680 Excuse me wat? I'm confuzzled.
It would be great if they put a bigger battery and a second ssd expandable slot😢
Bought this laptop after watching your review! So far very satisfied except battery life.
I struggled with thermals in the MSI GS65 Stealth and had to part ways. This might be the right replacement. Thanks for such a great review Dave!
Please make a review of Lenovo Ideapad L340 with i7-9750H gtx 1650. Thank you!
Please do a review of Lenovo y540
Legion Y540 is like the best budget laptop... works well during long gaming hours with great cooling..... go for it 💓
@@kartikzacharia8277 hello! Do you already own the y540? Can you please tell me more about it and if you would recommend it?
Are you sure about the almost 5kg? :0
oops. that's in lbs. it's 2.2 kg
@@Dave2D oh thx, though it was with the adapter afterward since its a thicc boy! Nice vid as always! ;)
@@Dave2D How heavy is the AC Adapter? 800 grams?
@UUU U wut? why would lenovo do that. lmao
@@MatoVidovic_ that adapter looks HUGE though. Something to consider when you want to carry it around in school/work.
I have this laptop. I love it. The only things that I dislike are the battery life, and the screen easily moves around when typing. I still love it though, even though carrying the charging brick everywhere is a must.
I got this 2 weeks ago as my first non-apple laptop, was glad I took the risk despite the lack of reviews at that time...
The only RUclipsr I like his video even before I watch it .
He is so professional 👍😉
I need this so badly 😭😭
Please make a vid on best laptops of 2019 (Mid 2019)
Keep up the awesome work!
Saggitalia thanks for the headups. Hey if I use a mic does the mic boost slider work? My laptop at the moment doesn’t work for some reason
that was some amazing review! keep it up! youre doing a great job
Can you please talk more about more business oriented laptops?
@madone 05 I agree
Let us be the judge whether you have big enough balls, Dave.
It's ok, you can say you want to play with them.
😂
I bought the Y730 by following your advice, definitely worth the price. Thank you
So now we need the vs between this one and the new Lenovo Legion 7i!
There's already something like that but as a site article.. satisfying for me though

Lenovo updated legion y740 with 9th gen intel , 500nits display ,better color accuracy and solved the backlight bleeding issue. Do you know if this is true about the display?
500 nits really? Isn't that a little Overkill?
@@pinoyozzyworld its standard for hdr I guess.
Yes that's true I'm amazed too
can you please review the L340 or the Y540?
damn! its always nice to see dave making content, so subtle
If you want a longer battery life and own to 15 inch model you can swap the 57wh battery for a 76wh battery from the 17inch model it last about 5 and half hours(after Tuning and optimizing) It fits perfectly once you remove the drive bay unfortunately you will only be able to use the m.2 nvme slot after
