Villa was playing with one centre half a left back and two midfielders at the back for most of the game
And really enjoying the new CL format , villa was in the whipping boys pot 4 and qualified top 8

As a Colombian I’m so disappointed with Duran.

Don't be. We absolutely love him at Villa, and we are sad he is leaving, but understand. By all accounts, after considering the options, he realised he needed to look after his family. And I am going to continue to follow him and will cheer him on. Mark my words, he will be an absolute star and he will be ready to come back 24 years.

This format of CL has been amazing. Too predictable previously, this really opens it up for anybody to do well.

Got to.recognise that Villa had two CDMs playing in their defence.

Duran will become a better player at Villa. If he goes to Saudi, the level of training will be lower and coming back will be a real shock to him.

I don't think people are prepared for how irrelevant Duran will be once he leaves. Like, Hamilton Ricard scored 33 PL goals and Juan Pablo Angel scored 44 and people still barely remember either of them. Duran has 12.

He will score a hatful over there, but that won't mean anything, any half decent striker in the al-nassr team would, with the standard of the league.

My issue with young talent going to Saudi is that it kind of inverts the existing process within professional football whereby young players work hard to improve themselves and push their boundaries in order to build wealth as they progress in their career. If they do come back to Europe they’ve already made it financially and the incentive to continue to push themselves is somewhat compromised.

By all accounts, Duran struggled with the decision, and in the end, he wanted to do the right thing by his family. It's important to understand he grew up in abject poverty, and this will have a generational positive impact on his family.
We absolutely love him at Villa. He had turned a corner from his poor behavior last season. He and Emery really got on well too. I will say I have seen a lot of young, talented players over the years, but I have never seen the likes of Duran. His attitude, confidence, the fight thats in him, and that talent of his. The potential of this lad is off the charts.
Mark my words, timing is everything, and the Saudi league is now concentrating on bringing in younger players. They have a plan, and if Duran continues to improve, he will be an absolute rock star. With the positive influence of CR7 and others, this may not be as bad as it looks from a career POV.

14:50 That's all fair, BUT the story is that the offer came in on Monday, and then someone decided to leak it the day of the match. We can be fairly sure that this was not done by Villa, that leaves either Arsenal or possibly Ollie's agent. My money is on Arsenal.

Idah is being massively overhyped... First goal was deflected onto a plate for him after a huge defensive reshuffle which meant 2 midfielders were covering in defence.
The second goal was similar in that he wasn't picked up properly by a player out of his favoured position and who had just been switched.
Once they sorted it out they completely dominated the second half and it was never really a close contest - villa could have scored 7 or more on another day (hit post, slipped taking a peno, scuffed effort off the line, plus 2 top saves from schmeichel).

I, for one, am enjoying the new format, although admittedly I would as I am a Villa fan :).
For some reason, and I may be alone in this, but it has a sort of FA Cup feel to it. As a neutral, I've enjoyed more matches. I also really like that they removed the ability to drop down from CL to Europa. Hated that, it took away the jeopardy of losing.
Also, what ppl may be missing is that there is the potential to earn more money and to smaller clubs this is a lifeline.

One point everyone seems to have missed is that Jhon Duran gets to play along Ronaldo. Something he can brag about the rest of his life. And if we want to be hypothetical. Who better to work along side and perhaps learn from. Duran did lots, as a villa fan, happy for him if he is getting what he needs. That Bayern Munich goal will always be legendary. UTV

I think what people are missing for me is he grew up apparently very poor in Columbia, and he's now been offered to be one of the highest earning athletes of his age in the world driving around a rich kids paradise in multi-million pound cars.
      I don't think he should go, but I can't say I don't get it.

I really don't get the Duran move - he's had a decent half a season and is apparently now worth £60m+. It shows the huge dearth of top quality strikers out there and how desperate teams are for a player that, up to now, has an average goal record.

Only needing 11 points from 8 games to get through is rubbish. The old system you often needed 10 from 6 games.
Now you can fail to win 5 times and still easily get through. Made the whole thing feel a bit pointless.

Reminder, even the poster boy of leaving Europe when teams still wanted you, Oscar, played for Chelsea from aged 21 to 26, before leaving.
    Leaving at 21 is ridiculous.

Bully for Duran! Good on him. Could get his leg snapped in training tomorrow. Easy for Luke to bleat on about taking 50% less money and becoming a legend - just not living in the real world.
10-12 years ago, Falcao took the Monaco money to move from Atleti to Monaco when he was the hottest striker in Europe who could write his own ticket. Pretty sure he'll be considered a legend anywhere he goes in Colombia. If that was todays landscape, he'd be moving to Saudi when people like Luke demanded him go to Chelsea. Even after moving to Galatasary he's still a legend, whilst being an amazing striker earning millions and living in incredible places. Of course would have been nicer for us PL fans to see a peak Falcao play mind not the Man U version
Sometimes we need to burst our PL England centric bubble. Playing, earning and living in Saudi obviously strikes a better balance for Duran. England, especially around Birmingham and being taxed to death isn't everyones cup of tea - especially if your not from these shores. Culturally living in Saudi much better option for players like Duran!

I don't think Saudi is not this nice place to live you think it is.Insane temperature, can't go anywhere without driving, not much to do if u don't like fine dining and golf, harder to meet new people that speak your language.

    • @Sillygoooose624
      @Sillygoooose624 9 дней назад

@ Have visited Saudi multiple times over last few years, found it great place to visit and would love to live a few years there if opportunity was there!
Can see attraction for someone like Duran. Living and playing in England really isn’t the be all and end all for the world’s players. Ultimately Saudi are offering up an attractive complete package to players now.
Of course league is tinpot compared to PL, but not long ago Duran was living a very different life in Colombia - now he can take care of generations of his family from a single contract at 21!
That being said, Almiron turned down moving there last year and in the summer as he wanted to stay settled in NorthEast, and only just left to go back to Atlanta where he knows. Greek GK turned down move there as wants to stay in Europe - each to their own and own motivations.

Duran went from one of the most relevant players in football, to one of the least relevant.
And he'd have been rich beyond his wildest dreams either way. Why should we be inspired by a guy who doesn't give a toss about the quality of football he plays.

    • @Lioness_UTV
      @Lioness_UTV 7 дней назад

Living at the level Duran will be, he will enjoy it, especially for a few years. And you are on the right track regarding Duran's reasons. He grew up really poor, poverty and by all accounts he didn't necessarily choose this path but once offered he couldn't turn it down for the sake of his family. Mark my words he'll be back by the time he is 24. And I hope he absolutely knocks it out of the park in Saudi and becomes a legend. The young fans out there are going to love him.

Al Nassr will pay Duran 2-3 times more than anyone else will. For him to turn that down would be the most selfish decision imaginable. Imagine not taking the opportunity to be able to change tens of thousands of lives, in aid of your pursuit for 'a trophy'. Honestly get a grip guys, are we 7 years old doing the egg and spoon race?
