Thank you so much for this! Going back in time, listening to these songs, is bittersweet.
On one hand, it exemplifies the brilliance of the singers and songwriters of the time.
On the other, it makes me yearn for those times.

I was snorting "fire" in the 70s. Now I am a old man on oxygen and last month the O2 caught fire as I was inhaling so I snorting fire yet again. Somehow it's not quite the same as I remember or anywhere near as much fun as I remember.... lmao

These songs were the top 2 singles on Billboard Magazine's Year-end charts in the 70s (Notice Debbie Boone's You Light Up My Life, is not included?). This doesn't make them the 20 greatest hits of the 70s. Because of Billboard's November 1st cut off, many songs never appeared on the year-end charts. This problem lingered into the 1980s until Billboard moved its cutoff date to December 1st in 1985. Another problem was the computers would only credit a song for its performance within' the chart survey period of November 1st to October 31st. That's why Debbie Boone's hit, You Light Up My Life, does not appear on the 1977 year-end chart and was only #3 on the 1978 year-end chart.
