I was just contemplating buying this very spider. I was gonna try to find a wild one first, but I didn't realize how much bigger this one is. You've sold me!
Oh this little dear is just so sweet ♡. I think a hilariously inappropriate name for them would be "Monster." I came up with it because so many people think of spiders as monsters right? So the irony comes in with this being the single most effective spider at getting people over that fear. On top of that, when people thinknof "monster spiders" their immediate go-to is most often one of two things: black widow, or tarantula, specifically the orange and black version of the later. I noticed that this little dude(tte) had orange on their legs, and was thinking it would be funny to name them tarantula, then came up with "Monster" with my previous statement in mind. I don't know if you bother naming all of your bugs, or just get them to admire their awesomeness, but if I had this spider, I would name it Monster. Anyway, thanknyou for sharing this absolute darling with us. Have a wonderful rest of your day.
What a sweetie :D Definitely a juvenile female. Tannish color, general body and pedipalps shape, and pinkish chelicerae. Boys stay black and white. She looks hungry. Both fantastic enclosure choices! I think you're the first person who has mentioned they smell through their feet?? That would make a lot of sense- I just know they have to get accustomed to human skin and can shy away at first. I thought it had to do with texture or temperature. Some other jumper species are bolder and have less of an issue with skin. Like P. carneus are a lot more adventurous. Recommended species if you are ready for a little more active species, they actually seem to be more hardy than P. regius due to being from desert areas.
I think you must be right…a female. She has taken several large meals since her arrival, and is looking pleasantly plump now. I’ll have to look up P. carneus! I am fascinated by P. apacheanus and P. johnsoni…I once found a johnsoni in my backyard…such a beautiful red!
@@Aquarimax Yes I love all the red spiders! I think the 3 can be mistaken for each other. I had a johnsoni that stayed rather small so I didn't develop a lot of a relationship with them but they seemed mellow. I can't speak for apacheanus, but the one carneus I have has a big personality and others say that's typical for them.
@@Aquarimax Oh and I meant to ask you since you look at a lot of small things- how many spinnerets do jumping spiders have? I've been trying to figure it out for illustration purposes, but I was having trouble finding a clear answer. I think it's 4. I definitely see more than 2, but I don't think they have 6. I read spiders usually have 2-8.
@@kitsune0rei I definitely want to keep a carneus…the red (and in many cases white) is such a great combo. I love the fact that they seem so bold too,!
I believe they get their colors pretty early on! At least from my own experience with p. regius. Males will get that shiny chelicerae pretty young. I would definitely agree with yours being a female (from what I could see at least)! Sooo cute :D
Hi Russ, hope all's well with you and yours. Terrified of spiders but it has a sweet face. I have tiny black and white ones that sun bathe on my house wall. Well on the odd occasion we see the sun where I am in the UK that is. They seem to find the warmest spots just like little striped cats. It's the only ones I don't mind being there. You (not Mrs tho) would probably love the wolf spider's they are hugely terrifying and not just to me! skinny tarantulas with attitude 😲 Happy New spider day. Joanne.
Thanks for this video, this regal is, as are all others, absolutely adorable! I live in Japan where phidippus jumpers are really hard to come by. I've ordered a regal from overseas but I have no idea if it will arrive safely and it is taking quite a bit of time. In the meantime, I'm ordering a jumper that is available locally, plexipus paykulli (Pantropical Jumping Spider). While I absolutely adore phidippus jumpers I may need to settle for keeping a more locally available variety. Do you know anything about, or have any tips about pantropical jumpers?
Hello again Rus I've been debating a jumping spider for a while. I actually had one that I caught in my hallway and kept it for a few months. But I'm not good at handling fruit flies. Can you think of any alternatives to them, anything more hand-able or forgiving? I know sometimes they can eat mealworms when they get big enough right? But what about when they're smaller, and as mentioned, depend more on fruit fly sized prey? Ants maybe? Thank you.
I'm planning on ordering from them! I unfortunately cant afford the overnight shipping so I'm hoping it will be okay. I have fruit flies and an enclosure ready so I will make sure to water and offer food asap.
Hello! I’m new to the spider world and wanted to adopt one of these! I have found it quite difficult as many online websites are sold out. Do you have any advice how to purchase one? I’m in Southern California by the way. :)
Fortunately, my wife thinks jumping spiders are cute. They are really the only spiders she finds cute. If I had 100 of them, she’s be uncomfortable…but a few are fine. 😁👍
I love love love jumping spiders of all kinds. Been wanting to set up an enclosure for one for a while now.
Love these guys... Taking care of lots of babies right now! 😊

Those little striped ones are probably Salticus scenicus…we have those here too, and they seem to worship the sun!
She(?) is lovely! Thank you for sharing 😊
I can't wait to meet the spider in person!
I look forward to you having that opportunity!
can i ask a question? how do i take care of two different types rolly pollies?
Are the in the same enclosure?
How long will it typically live?

I'm hooked on bugs in cyberspace 😅 just bought a few black hole spiders from them, 10/10 best pet spider
That is a wonderful species too, I have one as well!
OMG, jumping spider!!

Hello! Have you already tried www.bugsincyberspace.com?
Hello Russ
Darkling beetle? Isn't that just a mealworm
Mealworms are one of MANY species of darkling beetles.
Hi
Don't think I'd ever personally own one but that spider is kinda cute. How does your wife feel about it?
