CCR has so many iconic songs, Favorite Son, Lodi, I Put A Spell On You, Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Have You Ever Seen the Rain...many, many more. You will not be disappointed in this quintessential American band.
And...Lodi is in California...for what ever that's worth. When I was 18 to about 23, I road Greyhound a lot around my State. Logged a lot miles between the far west of Washington State and Idaho Border where my university was. And other destinations. Believe me, there is a lot of Lodi's to get suck in.
Fogerty never had been to the south, Louisiana or the bayou when he wrote this song. This is his view of what the bayou would look and feel like…. He nailed it!!! People are shocked to hear he was from Cali and never went to the Deep South. At one point CCR was right in the Beatles heels! My dad raised me on these guys and we still ride around and listen to them. One of the greatest rock bands of all time! Also… that rickenbacker is legendary! 🎸
CCR has so many great classic rock songs, John started a solo career in the 90's and had some great songs like Centerfield and the old man down the road. I always think of my mom when I hear born on the bayou, one of her favorite songs. She has good taste in music.
John Fogerty has been blessed with a voice that has held for a very long time.He wrote most all of the songs and was the primary and lead vocalist. His solo career was just as inspiring as his group efforts. He still tours and his voice has finally wealening but then again he is 78 years old now too. BTW,your voice is barely audible but the music video is the right volume.
I saw John Fogerty about 12 years ago, at a music festival. I knew his music catalog was vast, but still was amazed. It was like, “I know this one, I know this one”. It was hit, after hit, after hit. It was an amazing show, on a perfect summer night.
You would NEVER believe after listening to CCR that they were not Southern from Louisiana. I call it "swamp rock". Fabulous voice & great overall musicianship.
As opposed to Swamp Pop. If you're not familiar with Swamp Pop you'll be surprised. Pure Louisiana style that had a huge influence. After you listen to some, note that Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant is a fan and even toured with a Swamp Pop band from Lafayette called Lil' Band of Gold.
They are actually from southern California, but dang his vocals are straight up southern to the soul❤❤❤ this is my favorite❤you wont find a bad ccr song. Johns vocal capabities❤❤fabulous.
I couldn’t agree more than the Cajun/Creole/American South Louisiana culture is mystical, magical, and has the damn goodest cuisine. I luv CCR and was shocked to learn they were from California.
John is a legend, he has solo albums too, after his 10 year hiatus to scorn his record company, THE OLD MAN IS DOWN THE ROAD, ROCK & ROLL GIRLS, SAW IT ON TV.
This was my parents go to album anytime they threw a party in the late 60s to mid 70s. When this Album was on everyone was dancing. Great decade for music. 2 others you might know are Brandy and Smoke from a distant fire. Both thier voices are unique and awesome The performances on the Midnight Special are best.
They formed in California in the 60's. Huge hit with Fortunate Son a anti Vietnam song during all the unrest. Many other songs are good. They were very popular.
My favorite CCR song by far. They were around for maybe 2-3 years, but put out 7 albums in that short period. As a few others have said dig into their music.
The whole album Bayou Country is fire. One of my favorite albums by any artist, not just CCR. Graveyard Train and Penthouse Pauper are great deep cuts that get overlooked.
This song is from 1969, and the group started (( as CCR)) about 1967 or '68. My favorite band in High School. They were from Northern California, I believe. John Fogerty on lead and Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar. Also with Stu Cook and Doug Clifford.
I've got about 10,000 record albums. The very first one I ever bought was CCRs Cosmos Factory when I was 7. I saw them doing Up and Around the Bend on American Bandstand and had to have it. Still got it. Listen to their version of I Heard it thru the Grapevine. FIRE!!
In 2002, John Fogerty did a free concert in NYC South Street Seaport under the Brooklyn Bridge. Totally awesome. It was a spur of the moment thing! And my son and I create a memory. ☮️😎
I came of age in the 70s and it was an awesome decade - sex, drugs and rock n' roll! (I was a tweeb, so only had the last two of three ;). The music of this decade (except for disco) still out matches all others - in my not so humble opinion. Keep it real Britt - I enjoy your fresh take on the classics.
They're from just north of San Francisco. The singer is John Fogerty, and his brother Tom is playing rhythm guitar. It's 1969 or 1970. He's still alive - just yesterday, he posted a video of himself playing guitar and singing somewhere around Sausalito, CA.
CCR for the uninitiated is definitely an experience. I used to read tons of science fiction when I was young and in my teens (70's) I discovered CCR and one of the least played and known from them is RAMBLE TAMBLE. Even today when I listen to it, I am transported (like Britt and all of us to the Bayou) to a ship blasting into space, dropping all the extra weight then heading out to the stars and the final piece reminiscent of arriving at the destination. Leaving our solar system has always given me a sense of ennui (sadness) but determination cuz it feels like a one-way trip and never gonna see home (Earth) again. I'm trying to find how I can get someone to give me their reaction cuz it is such a great CCR tune. Hit me back, please
He had what they used to call the "dutch boy" haircut, after the mascot for Dutch Boy paint. They only lasted 2 years, but they were on fire the entire time.
This was part of the soundtrack of the Vietnam War. Run Through the Jungle, and Fortunate Son were theme songs. They blasted Run Through the Jungle from Huey helicopters.
This was the first song I heard by CCR right after it was released. Was only 6 years old and loved the bands sound l, but John's buzzsaw voice knocked me way out!
Fogerty is a fav. of mine. I adore our bayous - it's the best place I know of to get away from constant commotion and noise. Years ago I seriously thought about buying a houseboat and living right on the water. Since you mentioned my fav. food (crawfish), there's a YT video of Fogerty covering "My Toot Toot" w/Rockin Sidney at a crawfish boil.
They were huge. Their working class-down-home-sound was a welcomed change at the end of the sophisticated psychedelic era that had a tinge of exclusiveness to it. Not everyone was cool enough to be a part of that club. They were big with Vietnam vets for some reason. My guess is that most vets of that era were not the wealthy class or big city boys. Oh yeah, Creedence wrote a song about that, "Fortunate Son"
Huge success from 1969-1971 with 14 top ten singles and 5 top 10 albums, however, this group from El Centro, California was wracked with disagreements over buisiness and artistic control. Much like Fleetwood Mac, hugely successful with Lyndsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joining in 1975, but the ensuing years laid waste with interpersonal relationship problems within this band as well. What dichotomy to be so massively successful with music yet the polar opposite with intersonal relationships. I do agree, however, not knowing any better I would have guessed this band to be from the bayou as well based on this song. Gotta tip my hat to John Fogerty's vocals on this one. Great reaction, TY.
From age 6-13 I grew up in Louisiana, and these guys were huge there! We felt like they we our brothers! The skating rink was the place to be on Friday night and the rink filled up to any CCR song! Such great memories!
Britt Former members tried to sue John Fogerty of using his voice on his solo music, but judge denied their lawsuit because they can't copyright John Fogerty's voice. His voice is so iconic. Like others have said, "at 78, his voice is still strong"
INCORRECT ! Band members DID NOT sue my Uncle John. That was the owner of the record label Fantasy Records, his name is Saul Zaentz. My dad Tom and Doug and Stu DID NOT sue my Uncle John.....
They are a really, really great band that I believe never really got the full appreciation they rightly deserved. They were up there at the very top. They released great numbers such as Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, and Have you Ever Seen The Rain, phenomenal.
The word soooo many folks use to describe this band, this singer, this music is SWAMPY. A perfectly chosen word. So many great song. Pick any one and you won’t be disappointed.
Calming... I bet most of us here were rocked to sleep in our cradles listening to this. Plus many more greats from that era. The nights my parents were cranking Pink Floyd are countless. I use to get paid to go to bed early. I wouldn't sleep obviously with music as loud and cool as that.
These guys were from Northern California. Just true grit. One of my favorite bands growing up. The original name was The Creedence Revival. John Fogerty didn't think it sounded right. While they were in Olympia Washington he was watching TV and saw a commercial for Olympia beer. Their catch phrase was "It's the Water, cool, clear water". He added the Clearwater to the name because it added the persona the band he was looking for. He just won the rights to his own songs back (in 2023) from a shitty publishing company that ripped him off for decades. So happy for him 😂
I once saw an English 'song text' of BOTB and it had 'Cajun Queens (which they didn't quite 'get') as 'Kings & Queens'. Poor Brit had no idea what a 'Cajun' might be. YEAH CRAWDADS!
CCR was one of the greatest bands of the late 1960's and early 1970''s. Listen to Fortunate Son, Proud Mary and Looking Out My Back Door among other CCR songs.
Britt? You commented on your intrigue with Creole culture, which is very much Louisiana. There's an incredible movie, (Angel Heart 1987) which is set in that culture, specifically the underbelly of it. Lisa Bonnet stars, and is off the charts both in her physical look and of course her projection of the part she plays.
♥ CCR! I suggest these CCR songs: Travelin Band, Fortunate Son, I Heard It Thru The Grapevine, Down On The Corner, I Put A Spell On You & Sweet Hitchhiker
They had several good songs. Over the years I don't know how many records, 8-track and cassette tapes and CDs of their music I have bought and worn out. Some of my favorites are Traveling Band, Have you ever seen the rain, It came out of the sky, Lodi, Green River just to name a few. Check them out sometime.
The closest they got to a bayou is the Delta region of interior northern California. Pretty swampy and woodsy there. Steamboats. Critters. Cool Hand Luke was filmed there. Try their song Green River. Big hit.
It is the rhythm of the Bayou.. New Orleas, a little, but more Laffayete, Morgan City, Houma, Broussard. That is the true Cajun culture. Creole, Cajuns and Coonasses are all different, but linked culture. The foods are distictive. Tobasco is bottled on Avery Island south of Laffayete. Breau Bridge is the Crawfish Capital. That is between Laffayete and New Orleans.
Congratulations Britt🍼🎊 on your news about the Lil' bun-N- oven. 😏 You're going to be a great mom👍💖 You can never go wrong with "CCR" they are "swamp rock, bayou country for sure. lol I don't care if John Fogerty never stepped foot in the south, his vocals and their sound "embodies" the feel of Louisianna. One of my personal favorites is "Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bad Moon Rising (Live at Royal Albert Hall/1970)" Great reaction ~ I hope you have a great day too 🎶
The amount of great music CCR released over a 3-year period ('68-'70) was astonishing. I don't know if any band ever had a more meteoric rise over such a short period, and for a while it seemed they were going to be the American Beatles or Rolling Stones; but it wasn't to be and the band went their separate ways with the singer, John Fogerty, having a long and fruitful solo career. Lots of phenomenal songs to hear from CCR, many of them so iconic you've surely heard them in various media: Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, Who'll Stop the Rain, Run Through the Jungle, Green River, etc.
We called those "page boy" haircuts. There were always a few rockers with them in the 60s & 70s then suddenly no one dared to wear them anymore. Like one day everyone woke up & said "dang those look goofy."
Did a lot of protest based tunes about the Nam adventure, Runnin through the jungle, have you ever seen the rain! I was there for the last of it. Supper Band!
This song came out in 1969. The B side of Proud Mary. But the song I've heard Fogerty sing the most is "Put Me In Coach" as my sons made their years through little league baseball. My personal favorite (and perhaps a favorite for many Vietnam vets) is Fortunate Son.
They are California boys who somehow became all time great swamp rockers!
Graduated high school in 1975. Grew up listening to this era of fantastic music!!!
CCR has so many iconic songs, Favorite Son, Lodi, I Put A Spell On You, Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Have You Ever Seen the Rain...many, many more. You will not be disappointed in this quintessential American band.
Don't forget Run Through the Jungle.
Fortunate Son

Roger McGuinn of the Birds also played a Rickenbacker, and so did John Lennon.
He nailed it perfectly.❤❤. 😅
John Fogerty was from the bayou in another life.
Not only was he not from the South - he grew up in the SF Bay Area - El Cerrito - 5 miles north of Berkeley
CCR has so many great classic rock songs, John started a solo career in the 90's and had some great songs like Centerfield and the old man down the road. I always think of my mom when I hear born on the bayou, one of her favorite songs. She has good taste in music.

This band got me through some very dark times. They spoke to my generation particularly Vietnam Veterans. By the way they’re from Northern California.
Creedence Clearwater Revival was the most popular band the World from 1969 to 1971 😎
You would NEVER believe after listening to CCR that they were not Southern from Louisiana. I call it "swamp rock". Fabulous voice & great overall musicianship.
"Swamp rock" reminds me of Jim Stafford

Ok the band is from California
But individually are any of the members from the south.
Curious
@@marktracy1721 They were all from El Cerrito and went to El Cerrito High. I remember when I was young, I assumed they were from the South as well.
El Cerrito is in the Bay Area.
Cerritos is in LA County
Sooooo many hits..CCR... the only band that can fill a double album set with all hits... Great music. Bayou soul... Great reaction. Thank you.
Your reviews are always so fresh and your outlook on music is just amazing, keep on your path, love it
Originally from San Francisco....wrote "proud mary" which you've heard of i'm sure...super popular in the late '60s😉😉
I couldn’t agree more than the Cajun/Creole/American South Louisiana culture is mystical, magical, and has the damn goodest cuisine. I luv CCR and was shocked to learn they were from California.
CCR is a Bay Area (SF) band. They used to play off the back of a flatbed truck. They literally were "Willie and the Poor Boys."
John is a legend, he has solo albums too, after his 10 year hiatus to scorn his record company, THE OLD MAN IS DOWN THE ROAD, ROCK & ROLL GIRLS, SAW IT ON TV.
One of their early songs that I like is "walk on the water". The way he sings it is extraordinary.
Love that you and others do these reaction vids to the past generations, to keep them alive! Tfs! 😍

I love this music. CCR was astoundingly good! The sixties and seventies are my favorite music eras!
Just seen John Fogerty down in Nashville Tuesday Night for the 5th time, Awesome show!!, At 78 John still Rocks!!!!👍✌️
This band is from California, but clearly identifies as southern rock.
