Speaking another language truly opens up your mind! That’s how we can truly connect with many different cultures and help us understand each other better.
For the past two years, I've resided in Guanajuato, where mastering Spanish stands as one of the most daunting yet fulfilling endeavors I've undertaken. To truly immerse oneself in Mexican culture and connect with its warm-hearted inhabitants, fluency in their language is indispensable. Though initially daunting, I've learned to embrace the learning journey. Little by little, it's the sole path forward.
I’m trying to work up the nerve to “press 9” when I call a customer service line and they say “press 9 for Spanish”. One day I’ll have the courage to do it.
Is always good to hear from you, I still in Arlington, but rented a house in Milenio that we are furnishing little by little. We are also selling stuff here. We are going to be 100% moved by the end of August. We have met Helen, Dina and others from your group in our trips. Thank you for continue doing videos. Wilfredo & Claudia🫶🙏🏼‼️
I loved your personal tips, Alex. One of my favorite ways to work on my Spanish is talking with cab and Uber drivers. They usually want to work on their English as well and I have had some rich conversations where I have search for the right words to express myself.
My fluency in Spanish jumped to the next level when I was teaching English in a Colombian school. Suddenly I had to speak with teachers and parents about their kids, curriculums, lesson plans, and general life chit chat. I made some life long friends (who speak only Spanish) and getting invited to family events etc really helped me assimilate and grow.
Last year I was in Guadalajara. The taxi driver asked me many questions when I told him i was learning Spanish. Advanced beginner at best. I understood the question and what my answer would be, but I didn't have the Spanish vocabulary to say that. I had to find a way to answer with the Spanish vocabulary I did have. A challenge, in a good way. In the end, his advice was to just go for it. I have enjoyed the opportunity to try out my Spanish. Sometimes with a Spanish speaking person whose English was in better shape than my Spanish. As adults most of us are inhibited to try to speak a foreign language when we are less than fluent. It is what I observe when I take adult ed Spanish classes and what I recall from years ago French classes in university (University of Michigan, Go Blue!). The Pimsleur program requires speaking. I got a lot from Pimsleur. I am grateful for being comfortable in speaking Spanish, even when I am reading out load something I have no idea what it is about.

Very interesting, thanks! A vlog in Spanish? Yes please, as long as you speak slowly enough to follow, lol.

You Should one day do a video in Spanish
Is there any particular topic you'd like the video to be about? Maybe questions you'd like me to answer in Spanish?
I had a lot of time to learn from when I was in prison.....
That is a joke.
