There’s a limit to how long people generally watch for. Most of my videos are simpler drawings that can be sped up less, but this topic required a more complex scene. 😀
I've just started drawing and that's pretty much describes the problems I've encounted so far. Objects are to detailed to draw. To get detail in that isn't there is certainly the answer. Big thanks very helpful
I am an artist and I always was avoiding drawing "noisy" pictures but thanks to you I figured out how i can make my BNW landscape ink drawings better! Thank you so much!
My pleasure Mark. I started drawing at 60, although I had painted in oils for ten years before that, which helped my drawing way more than I expected. Never too old. So get ready to amaze yourself and have fun. All the best with it. 👏👏👏
Thank you so much! Very helpful tips, as someone who's only foccused on characters for the last years, this is of great help for drawing my backgrounds.
i always fear to draw backgrounds in my art, and after all this time whene i found you you art make something spark on me and i know this is the kind of thing i wanna make to. Thank you so much
I’ve just joined your channel. Thank you for demonstrating your amazing talent. I’ve watched some of your videos already and find them to be such great examples of architectural sketching with a pen. May I request that you draw in real time please, rather than sped up. It would be great to see how long it takes you to produce one of your drawings and how you go about drawing it. Sped up footage loses those details. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Graeme, I do have a few in real time, and a number are double time which still looks quite slow, but longer drawings just end up taking more time than people will generally watch. But I do plan to do some more real time ones, so keep an eye out. 😀
Your channel is an actual goldmine of information I just stumbled into! Even though I draw more abstract scenes and doodles, a lot of the techniques still stand, and you explain them in a very easy to understand way. Thanks 😊 I normally draw with fountain pens, but I’m looking at trying some technical pens as well, any tips for good ones that don’t break the bank?
Thanks Coen. It’s kind of you to tell me. I always recommend buying pens you can afford to use up and through away and replace. Quality of materials is not as important as being free to free without restraint from fear of wasting expensive supplies. When I started I bought a selection of brands and bought more of the one that worked best for me. 😀
'Draw the effect of the detail not the detail itself," has been eye opening to me. Thank you so much for this insight. What marker do you use to put the shadow values? Looks like a copic of some sort.
Thanks. I use Copic Multiliners for the line work, and Copic Sketchmarkers for the tone, using the brush end, not the chisel end. I use Neutral Grey colour for the tone, usually 4-6 tones each drawing. The markers are refillable and the pens can have their ink cartridges and nibs replaced.😀
Have you ever done any research into artists such as Hubert Robert, Charles Louis Clerriseau, Antonio Joli and the wonderful Scottish artist David Roberts; namely how they managed to paint quite intricate architectural details? What methods did they employ? Pen and Ink?
I appreciate you. This style of work is what I strive to achieve. Do you ever do renderings in fountain pens only? or dip pens? I may find my answers in other videos. Thank you for your time and service to the craft.
Any pointers for this without reference and initial conceptualization, Setting up perspectives and working in non-euclidean space to explore architecrural elements of megastructures? It intrigues most to push myself to design something "new", even if that means communicating distorted spatial reasoning through traditional or futurist design fundamentals that can then be better "sold" through detail and finishing. Also, for those who dont knowbor are interested, yale courses here on RUclips has a fantastic "introduction to roman architecture" course playlist available for free.
This video was incredibly helpful id always struggle with suggesting detail but from seeing how you do it and practicing on my own I have a handle on it 🙏
There's a Terry Pratchett quote that runs something like, "it's still magic, even when you know how it's done."
But the good news is we’re all magicians!😀
I dont think there could be anybody out there, who could do this any better than you. You are amazing. Thank you for sharing your talent with us all.
That’s very generous of you to say. Thanks Diane. 😀
oh god... thats a hell of a composition, loooove it
Glad you like it. 😀
Speed thing up to such a high degree is a great way to boost retention rate from dedicated audiences. Clever move.
There’s a limit to how long people generally watch for. Most of my videos are simpler drawings that can be sped up less, but this topic required a more complex scene. 😀
I find your process of working out the details, on a larger scale from your "main" drawing, on a separate "planning" piece of paper very helpful.
Good to know. Thanks 😀
I love to close up micro working out of the details. This is the real nuts an bolts stuff that helps.
Glad you found a video like you wanted Matt. I’ll try and do some more that are more close up. 😀

I’m always really pleased to hear that I’ve made a problem clearer. Hope you can apply it in your drawings from now on. 😀

You're very welcome! Thanks for letting me know 😀
Thank you so much for demonstrating these drawing techniques. At 62, I'm a total newbie to drawing. Need all the tips I can get!

thank you stephen.... really appreciate your effort... please dont stop... cant thank you enough
Glad it’s helpful Majid. If you’re finding my videos helpful, please tell your friends about them. All the best with your drawing. 😀

Excellent. I always love hearing my videos have been relevant. Thanks 😀
10:15 , thanks , this what i actually need to hear about ! ✍🏾
That’s great. Have fun with it. 😀

Copic Sketch markers, the brush end, in various tonal values of Neutral Grey colour. They are not cheap, but they are refillable. 😀
Hello, Really great Job , could you please share details of drawing material used for lines shading etc.many things to learn from the videos

I can’t say I have Nick. I’ve never really painted architecture, but if I ever go back to painting I’ll have to give it a try. 😀

Yes, it might give your considerable talents a workout, lol.
Thanks for the reply Stephen. Regards.

Can’t say I’ve used a fountain pen since primary school I’m afraid. Just Fineliners and markers. 😀
@@stephentraversart Thank you for your quick reply. I have been fascinated with all things ink and realize it is such a broad medium.
What's the type of technical pen that you used? Amazing
A COPIC Multiliner. Thanks. 😀

Thanks for sharing . I’m afraid this is not an area I’ve got enough experience in to feel I’ve got a worthwhile contribution 😀
@@stephentraversart Fair enough. Thanks for sharing your expertise, I'll definitely be incorporating what I can, your work is phenomenal. ❤️
i thought that was a black and white photo at first🤯
No, it was all blood and sweat!🤣
Thank u very much 🤍.
My pleasure 😀
mindblowing
Hey, thanks. 😀
@@stephentraversart Superb art. I am a big fan of your work. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to teach us
I think I prefer your drawing to the original.
I think I’d rather have the Louvre myself, but that’s very kind of you to say Carol. 😀
How long should it take to complete a drawing like this
This took about an hour. 😀
This video was incredibly helpful id always struggle with suggesting detail but from seeing how you do it and practicing on my own I have a handle on it 🙏
Thank
My pleasure Caroline. 😀
Great content🔥 but the editing needs work.. it's kinda hard to understand what you're saying sometimes :(
Love your channel btw❤👍🔥
Thanks. Sorry about the editing. I’m a better artist and teacher I think than a video producer. But some are better than others. 😀
