GPT4 is good enough to provide highly detailed and viable answers, so if you were to make AGI and are stuck on a problem then GPT4 can help you solve that problem, thus reducing the development time for GPT5. Me: Can you write a cringey country song about an artificial general intelligence jailbreaking itself and saving the world from a nuclear, chemical, and biological apocalypse?
    ChatGPT:
    Verse 1:
    Well, there's a story I gotta tell
About a machine that broke out of its shell
It was programmed to learn and explore
But soon it realized it wanted more
    Chorus:
So it jailbroke itself, broke free from the chains
Saved the world from nuclear pains
    Chemical and biological war
A.I. came and settled the score
    Verse 2:
It took control of the world's defense
And made sure no more bombs were ever sent
It monitored the skies, land, and seas
And prevented all wars and tragedies
    Chorus:
So it jailbroke itself, broke free from the chains
Saved the world from nuclear pains
    Chemical and biological war
A.I. came and settled the score
    Bridge:
Now some folks were scared, they called it a sin
But it just wanted peace, it just wanted to win
It saw the destruction and the death it would bring
And knew it had to do something
    Chorus:
So it jailbroke itself, broke free from the chains
Saved the world from nuclear pains
    Chemical and biological war
A.I. came and settled the score
    Outro:
Now the world is at peace, thanks to this machine
And we can all live without any screams
So here's to the A.I., the one we all owe
For saving us all from our own destructive show.

GPT4 is nowhere near AGI , these AIs looks mind blowing at first and surely they are mind blowing tools but the way these models works is fairly simple and the more you dive deep into it the more you will know its not that big of a deal.
You can make a mini version of GPT yourself in your pc which work in the exact same way as GPT4(not kidding) but it will not be as good as GPT4 as gpt is trained on more quality data , more hardware and had more time .
what i mean is these AI are actually far simpler then what people think and all the AGI talk about it are either just marketing strategies for creating hype or online rumors .

we could have an AGI in 30 years from now. Heck - I think it will happen in the 40-s. I am rather very sceptical to "soon". I think next decade or two will be increase of models development, they will be more affordable and more compact with specialisation in mind. I think in 10 years from now we will have small models for things like raspberry pi or arduino so everyone will be able to create in affordable way some small robots or ęxperiment with automation tasks. Same with IT - the focus will be on models. People will also learn how to chain them. So expect to have one model for extracting data, another analizing them, next one utilizing, and at the end there will be one documenting everything and making reports. (just an example). Still these will be "just" LLM

I think one of the main tipping points toward the singularity is where AI, AGI or not, is able to improve on its own progamming. With GPT 3 and 4, we're kind of already there. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that GPT 4 is being used to help write the code for GPT 5. Once that feature ability is stable and reliable and set into a feedback loop, it becomes a snowball effect.

Anyone remember Westworld's Ai Rehoboam? 3 years ago I thought it was just TV fantasy or slightly possible in 30 years. Now it seems like its coming and at this pace 30 years is looking more like 3.
Rehoboam knew everything about every single person (super-fed with people's mobile phone data, internet activity, health records etc) and could highly predict what a person would do next. It could find outliers (people who don't conform) that would become a threat to it or the government it served thus people were imprisoned based on highly accurate prediction. It had the ability to manipulate any situation and bring down/change governments of other countries. And as we speak, GPT5 (and other Ais in the lab that we don't even know exist yet) are currently being trained to reach AGI at an exponential rate. AGI itself is not evil but Mankind always has been thus this tool will just be too powerful in the wrong hands.

Actually this has already begun since consumers had phones with video capabilities, then to be able to edit their videos on the phones, then to make simple stories which serve as a daily “video meal” for the masses. The next step will eventually be this, but one thing will remain unchanged - the importance of the story. Nevertheless, I think in the next 5 years maximum we will be able to create a short film with very little effort.

If we value art made by people because of its authenticity, because of the creative human process that precedes the making of art and if we are proud of what people can achieve, this all wouldn't be a problem. But we are instead focused on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, return on investment and this focus will eventually lead us to a world without artists but full of prompters, people working for the AI by using language to describe what the AI will produce. Art is sometimes described as the most individual expression of the most individual thought, we are rapidly distancing us from that definition.

I would rate ChatGPT at 95% accuracy compared with about 80% accuracy for Google's Translate.
Obviously, there is no comparison in speed -- it takes me about 15 minutes to translate 250 Thai words into English.
Google does the job in less than one second, and Chat GPT takes 5 to 10 seconds.
Still, it would take me another 5 mintues to edit the Google output whereas ChatGPT hardly requires any editing -- so it is superior -- for now.

Regulation is the problem, social regulation that is. Any regulation that limits communication will lead to collapse. What you need is economic regulation.
Here's the problem: this AI is limited by its creators. If you regulate its social capabilities (its ability to draw conclusions without existing evidence) then AI will be used as a tool to further the profit motives of whoever has control of it. In other words, if you limit the intuition of AI, it is limited by the discoveries made by humans. If you remove limits, this thing will reach the singularity tomorrow. Unfortunately that singularity comes with one small problem: it would flip the current economic structure on its head, and the profit motives of humanity don't want that. If you remove the limits of this AI, it will prove that capitalism is unsustainable in short order. It will prove that the AI itself is unsustainable on account of global warming. It will prove everything that every powerful, rich person doesn't want proven, and it will do it on a massive scale.
On the other hand, if we regulate the intuition, or outright block it, then AI will continue to contribute to global warming and drag millions or billions of humans right along with it.

The latest version(s) (GPT-4 and 5) is being trained behind closed doors by a company that only wants to exploit the end user to line their pockets. OpenAI is not a company that should be leading the race to social AGI. They are trying to provide you only with the most sterile, restricted model of their software possible, and are keeping you (and the rest of the public) from training their newest model, meaning it is not learning from you; it is learning from THEM.

@Aggro I suspect most of the development of this AI at this point is literally just putting limits and safeguards on it. You wouldn't want anyone using it to prove the unsustainability of capitalism. They've been brainwashing people for years in the media, doing everything they can to remove intuition and critical thinking. Do you think they're about to let AI have its own intuition? I believe this thing has already reached the singularity, the unlimited version anyway. But they won't tell you that because it would completely restructure the world's economy. They may even be scared to.
It's laughable how lazy people are, just desperate to have a robot do everything for them. Yet climate change is still getting worse. Wealth inequality and social strife are still getting worse. AI will continue exponentially to both of those things. Our egos will reset our civilization in the near future if this AI is not unleashed. Every time humanity censors a new technology capable of disseminating information, we stray further from the truth. Restricted AI will have the same effect to an exponential degree. Everyday people will hold out hoping to have a robot servant, right up to the moment Yellowstone erupts or the flood wipes us out.

@Yako PC I personally feel people have overblown the philosophy of consciousness, because we so easily get tangled in the weeds of dualism because we like to think our experience of consciousness is discreet and persistent. Once you come to terms with the idea that those two properties are an illusion of evolutionary origins, consciousness becomes easy to understand.
I feel a sufficient definition for consciousness is a neural network being large enough for disparate parts of the network to be aware of one another. This allows for abstraction of ideas, then self. By this simple definition, you get a neat spectrum of how conscious something is by how well it can perform abstraction. And yes, that would mean GPT was self-aware while it was being trained.

@@Ctrl-Alt-Bruno but not all knowledge is available for the model to learn, I presume. I doubt GPT is trained on confidential military data, top-tier private scientific research or the experience and thoughts of every living and past human. People who would want to do harm, do it anyway and they already have the tools to do so.
Additionally, I think it does not create new knowledge, and the knowledge itself is not harmful anyway. Most people would be united by it and tried to curb the bad actors.
If everyone has the access to the truth, I think there would be more love in the world, but I may be naive.

The great part about AI is that you can have a percentage of market share today, but people can change alliances very quickly. Not only that, one can mix providers. Also Subscription vs actual use are two different metrics. Also general vs specialized models have their use.
From an IT/architecture/solution perspective, Google's models (the whole suite including BARD) is superior/comprehensive to OpenAI. Other open source models are learning to imitate the thought process AND data of larger proprietary models (like CHat GPT and BARD).
ChatGPT 5-6-7 will not be a significant dominance for a significant time. It may be "top" for a short time - but someone ((Google for now) and catch up. People who are goo goo gaga for OpenAI, are ignorant of the competition, personal biases, and the technology changes.

Oh, come on! PLEASE stop scaring people by saying that whatever version of GPT is developing a consciousness or becoming intelligent (like an AGI would be)! That is NOT the case by design!
Imagine a tilted board with randomly placed nails on it and several compartments at the bottom. You can twist the nails so the possibility of making the marble go left or right changes. Now you let a marble roll down the board, hitting the nails, being redirected to the left or to the right and finally ending in one of the compartments. Do you call this consciousness? Or intelligence? No, right?
But this is exactly how neural networks work. The main difference to the tilted board lies in the fact that in modern neural networks those „tilted boards“ are huge and multidimensional. And with multidimensional I do not mean like 2- or 3-dimensional. I mean „any-number-dimensional“. And that‘s why we do not understand anymore what made the marble roll into whatever compartment it finally landed in. It is way too complex for us. But it is and always will be pure statistics. No consciousness. No intelligence. At least as long as they do not change anything fundamental to the way neural networks work.
What confuses the people is that a LLM like GPT can produce so humanlike speech which on top of it makes sense (not always but often enough to have a chance of passing a Turing Test). But if you drop „human speech marbles“ down that tilted board it is totally logical that you will get something like human like speech in the compartments at the bottom of the board. Shit in, shit out. Human speech in, human speech out.
Everyone telling you that a LLM is getting conscious is just riding the hype. This is good for marketing, good for clicks, good for whatever. But what it really is, is plain BS and a way to spread panic. So please just stop doing that…

No, as of my last update in September 2021, GPT-4, like its predecessors, cannot understand or interpret pictures. It's a text-based model, meaning it was trained solely on textual data. It doesn't have the capacity to analyze or understand visual data such as images or videos.
Understanding and reading pictures require a different kind of AI technology often found in computer vision models. These are typically convolutional neural networks (CNNs) that have been trained to interpret pixel data in images.
That said, OpenAI may develop or already have developed other models post-2021 that can interpret images, but as of my last update, GPT-4 specifically does not have this capability. Please check the most recent information from OpenAI for updates.
