So different thats what makes it fun to watch and listen too. You're right about Scott and "Sing", i think its the same flannel shirt lol I know I love my flannel. Awesome reaction thx❤
Did you know, the band had floor teleprompters installed for shows due to Scott forgetting the words!!! He admitted almost every show he messes up and Mitch... To the rescue... Hahaha
There are several theories about what this song means. The songwriter, Robin Pecknold, from the original artists (Fleet Foxes) has said he didn't intend for it to have a lot of meaning, just a nice gentle choral piece to start their 2008 album. But when he wrote it he was thinking about many of his childhood friends whose friendship he lost when they got involved with drugs and crime. He was visualizing himself walking through the snow and his friends one by one losing their childhood innocence and falling behind.
I imagine the rest of them stumbling through while Kevin looks on indulgently at his uncoordinated friends! The original Fleet Foxes song has a very trippy video online if you want to explore the song a little more. I love that you have so thoroughly accepted Pentatonix and continue to feature them. Let us know about your concert experience! Peace …
Hiya! Just wanted to say, I saw Pentatonix live in London in May and they performed this one live absolutely perfectly! Apparently it was Avi who struggled most with the choreography and Matt, who had to learn it when he joined in 2017 picked it up pretty quickly. The 'trio' - Scott, Mitch and Kirstie had the most difficult choreo for this. It sounds amazing live. It does sound like a very sweet, light song but if you actulally listen to the original lyrics it's quite dark! 😁
I think there is a video of making this and how Scott messes up the most! 😂😂 On your they use a track for the sounds, but they do ALL the hand movements while singing. Still amazing to witness!
This is the final multiple-wonderful songs that cemented my Pentaholic convert status. Did you see the video of Scott, Mitch & Kirsty in their High School Show Choir video? The core trio has been friends for a long time.
They recorded this in 2014 but it took them until last years Christmas tour to finally perform it. There is a video somewhere of Scott commenting at the first show about them finally feeling grown up enough to perform it live
This is right up there with "Aha!" as a candidate for the most peculiar song Pentatonix sings. It seems to be a cheerful little song about decapitation. My guess is that they do it specifically for the cool hand choreography. I've seen a video of them practicing the hand choreography, but I don't remember where; I'm just certain that it took a LOT of practice.
They’re still doing that live on stage on their present tour too! I believe Scott did mess up once- but nobody cared. Just shows they’re human after all!
Lucky you. Their live concerts are phenomenal. I saw them in concert 7-9 years ago (don't recall what year) when Avi was in the group. In the summer of 2017, when Avi announced he was leaving, their regular supply of new releases stopped. I was so disappointed, BUT then I found Dimash. Pentaholics often become Dears, too.
I’ve seen them do it live…on a video, of course, of a live concert. They did the clapping choreo. I haven’t had the happiness of seeing them live. Hope you enjoyed the concert.
Its amazing that they are doing this live and they don't mess it up, lol. I do believe there is a clap track being played when they are live. In fact there is a video of a show where it was messed up so they had to skip the song and come back to it later in the show. But they do the motions live and you hear that, too, and their voices live of course!
@@patriciaalvareztostado8170 oh absolutely! They're just not relying on picking up sound from like 15 different positions on changing fabrics with different pressure! 😂
This is from their 2014 "That's Christmas to Me" album. Some songs on their Christmas albums are not about Christmas; they include songs about winter, religion or just about enjoying time with family and friends.
Kevin was probably saying "come on you slouches, get it together, this is nothing!" Also, when you were talking about Avi, it struck me for the first time that Matt, when he joined the group, had to learn their entire back catalog and get all Avi's parts down pat. Now that's having some big shoes to fill! 🙀
Also, I've never heard Matt sing Avi's arrangement for the second verse of "Hallelujah." The first performances of "Hallelujah" once Matt was in the band actually had Scott singing the second verse as well as the first. Matt didn't perform "Hallelujah" with them until he had an arrangement written specifically for him, and that arrangement has changed as Matt's range has increased. This isn't true of all the songs that they still perform that originally had Avi - "Bohemian Rhapsody" seems to be the same, for instance - but I strongly suspect that there are other songs where they've deliberately changed the arrangement to make better use of Matt's unique abilities.

Great reaction, thank you. I agree with you that Avi shines. In my opinion, he always does. Please, please react to more of this incredible musician’s solo music, you won’t regret it and many of us will love it. Two suggestions: “When I’m a fool” from his EP “Live at Sunset Sound”, it’s gorgeous. Plus “First place I go”. Please!
I was at the first show of their Christmas tour, when they did this live for the very first time. It was stunning. I was in awe…. I recorded part of it, but I was fumbling around so I have up and just enjoyed it.
I asked myself the same thing the first time I saw this how many times they messed this up XD I for sure would accidentally smack someone in the face doing that. Kevin - Mr. Multitasking himself - however looks the most relaxed here. Smiling all through the video. Great reaction!
My high school daughter’s choir did this in Orlando at Disney Springs. 5 kids did the what PTX is doing and the rest of the choir supported their vocals.
We’ve had a bit of a rough week with my daughter doing her communion (not sure of the translation) and a sick dog that had to eventually be put down. I’ve been in a rotten mood the past few days. I am about to record some new stuff later tonight though ;)
you should watch their version of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. They won a grammy for it, and interesting to see them do a song with no vocals, also, the video itself is amazing to see.
I am always so impressed by PTX! Also extremely impressed that Matt came in and has had to learn every arrangement, including this one, and he does it as flawlessly as the original members
Someone probably already mentioned this but since you guessed it I want to make sure you know that Scott once said learning the choreography of the songs was the hardest part for him. I may have that wrong but I kind of remember after hearing him say that they rehearsed a dance routine thing he kept getting wrong. He was adorable! They are all adorable! This song had to have taken much practice although as a child many, many years ago we use to do songs and poems to different hand claps, etc. Once you got the rhythm it just happened. Muscle memory I suppose. It really was fun. PTX looks to be having fun unless you look real close and see the concentration. Great reaction.
Tried to send the link…but it disappeared…just type in “White Winter Hymnal Clapping Tutorial” to see PTX teaching the “clapping” routine of this video…..individually and then the whole group…..it’s really fun!!!!!
I hope you do watch their cover of Creep that is after the costumes were removed on the Masked Singer. It is my new favorite version of that song! You can do their Christmas song any time of year, they are that good. Two of my personal favorites are Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy (Grammy winner) and Carol of The Bells.
The use of "hymnal" in the title by the original artists was just to indicate the genre, I guess so people people wouldn't be surprised since this wasn't their typical style. Just like not all Christmas/religious songs are hymns, not all hymns are religious music. Still it's on one of their 1st Christmas albums since it's a winter song & so pretty. Honestly you could put this on repeat & use it to fall asleep to. 😍
You can tell the age of a recording by how long Avi's beard is. The longer the beard, the more recent the recording. There is also a video with instructions on how to do the actions somewhere.
As a drummer who sang back up this amount of coordination takes practice. I had to use both arms, hands and feet and then added singing, and I had to remember to breathe at the right time. I had to develop a place in my brain in order to do both. I am not as naturally talented as they are so I am not sure if this is easier for them or not. It would be hard to compare. They are absolute unicorns but even unicorns have to practice some.
If you are checking out their solo upgrades, you have to check out Mitch's cover of Billie Eilish's "Your Power". I enjoy watching your reactions, thank you❤
There is definately no clap track. They do this live all the time. Excited for you being able to go see them soon, what you will see is absolute perfection at what they do. They are coming to Oregon / Washington again September 14th, saw them in 2018 and I will be front row and center for this one also.
Not a Christmas song but disguised as one on their Christmas album. The lyrics are actually quite morbid if you listen. Also don’t go by Scott to determine when something was made go by Mitch. He’s had multiple changing hairstyles and many of us can pinpoint the year by looking at him. Sometimes he even changes his look throughout the year so we can even tell you if it was the first half or 2nd half of a specific year. His beard here and slightly angled bangs mean 2014. His full emo side bangs and clean shaven face are 2015 when sing video was recorded. Color it blonde or purple and you have 2016 up until July when he shaved it completely bald.
They've got a new one. Came out 2 or 3 days ago. It's only audio but holy crap it's insanely good. It's their upgrade of CREEP by Radio head. Astounding ❤😲 I know it will blow your mind.
