My printer gave the same error, even when trying to print a demo page from the device. When trying to do a firmware upgrade, the printer would also reboot with a 79 Service error. What I eventually found out is that I had both a wired network connection (Ethernet) and a WiFi-connection enabled. I disabled the WiFi and removed the ethernet cable from the device and printed a demo page, which worked! I then reconnected the ethernet cable (and left WiFi disabled) and it worked fince since then.
This fixed our issue. Been misbehaving for months and then finally threw the code 79. I thought it was dead until I did some research. Wish I had tried this before I went looking for the DIMM. It must be built in because I couldn't find it. Thankfully the firmware update fixed it.
If this error occurs on scan to file attempt, reason might be that network drive is full or too many files in the folder where you scan to (because it searches for the last scanxxxx file and wants to increase the counter.
Great video. It didn't work for me. When trying to update it says it's not connected to the network. HP said to turn off IPv6, which I did. Also rebooted several times and got nowhere. Suggestions? FYI My printer is older than 2016.
If HP has an option to manually download the firmware that would most likely be your only choice. I think it would update it over USB. Beyond that I have no clue.
I had that problem, and did the usual -- reboot, upgrade firmware, downgrade firmware. I noticed that it didn't give this error when not connected to the network. what solved it for me was turning off the ipv6 in one of the network config menus.
Just got this printer free from Facebook and this resolve that issue. Thanks buddy!
This just saved me at the office right now. Thank you!!
This video was super helpful and right on point! Thank you so much!
Great delivery, quick and painless, much better than HP support!

If none of these suggestions work and they didn't for me, on the menu find "Restore Defaults" and select that, printer reboots...works fine.
Updated the firmware but still getting the error UGH
Thank you for the help :-)) (It would have been better understandable without the music, sorry.)

This happened to my old HP. Reset your modem & power cycle your printer. It took me three tries for my other laser jet printer to work. Good luck
Did not work for me. My HP reboots before it can even check for updates.
Same here :( did you ever find a fix?
My printer just won’t go past that message and keeps rebooting 😭
