College of HRSM Dean's Executive Lecture Series Presents Sheila Johnson and Craig Melvin

Sheila Johnson, the first Black female billionaire, shared her inspiring story with University of South Carolina students and guests at the Fall 2023 College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management Dean's Executive Lecture Series. She talks about her new book, Walk Through Fire, and her incredible life in a special interview discussion with NBC TODAY anchor Craig Melvin.
Johnson encapsulates the College of HRSM's industries at the highest level and has served as an executive-in-residence for the college, teaching leadership development courses for HRSM students. Johnson's achievements and wisdom in hospitality and tourism, sport and entertainment and retail industries make her a transformative figure for students and an inspiration for all.
Johnson is the only Black woman to own part of three professional sports teams: the WNBA's Washington Mystics, the NBA's Washington Wizards and the NHL's Washington Capitals. She is also the founder and CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts and was a founding partner of BET.
