The Easy mode enables invincibility by default on the player and the only things that will kill you are walls crushing in the Sea Cave levels as well as falling into a bottomless pit and running out of time. You also get 12 lives to start and more time on this mode too. The Medium and Hard difficulty modes are where your life meter (you get up to 4 hit points total including when the 3 bars are missing) is effective and there’s Krabby Patties you collect along the way to refill it (that aren’t present on Easy mode). Medium gives you 3 hit points in the energy gauge and 6 lives to start and less time and Hard gives you only 2 hit point in the health bar, 3 lives and no anchor checkpoints (so in this mode you must start from the beginning after dying).
