  • There are a ton of people new to the off-road community. For many, it's their first experience outdoors and they may not understand basic guidelines or common sense rules when they use their toys. In this video, Dave runs through some of the common mistakes people make and gives you some common sense guidelines.

    Biggest problem with Carl is he doesn't know he is a Carl. Loud stereo guy, light bar in the campground guy, 7,000 rpm start up rev guy, dui guy, no tools or tow strap guy, they're everywhere. I've had so many teachable moments with my son due to a seemingly endless supply of Carl's.

    Fly swatter???? HELL I got the wooden spoon if I was a "CARL". I was raised to clean tools when done, put stuff back where I found um, and clean up the area after the job was done.

    Dave, that is also a good point of the private off-road park scenario…although I partake in the fun of those areas too, I treat them the same as public lands…pack out what I pack in.
    However, I’m afraid there are a lot of others that treat private parks the same as beautiful public land and National parks. Litter, trail blazing etc.
    When I see it happening, I actually say something to those Carl’s.

  • @RockNDrums650
    @RockNDrums650 6 месяцев назад

    Agreed. I'm a enduro person. The biggest peeve I have when I head out to the trails if it just a casual ride to the river is finding a big mess. The up side, I got a new milk crate for my KLR 650. And a brand new bungie strap.
    And there's the drunk SXS that basically leaves with just find another place to ride for safety

  • @ganjamanrastaman420
    @ganjamanrastaman420 3 года назад +2

    Well said. A lot of rider don’t realize there’s an etiquette and rules to follow and when outdoors and so when they don’t follow those rules, we that appreciate all of that nature get screwed when they close all these beautiful trails. It’s nice to be important but also it’s important to be nice. Stay safe

    Preach it with no apologies. Some people just lack common sense and basic human courtesy. An example is dispersed camping when "Karl" sets up camp 10 feet away from you when there are countless open spaces a good distance away.

    I'll tell you what helps with the heat with lower doors. I bought some clasps for like a dogs leash clips in the door and keeps it open a few inches but not wider then the fenders on the talon. Really helps with air flow.

    This Carl mentality is the single biggest threat to our sport. No joke. I live in Maine, the land of tight trails and 97% of our trails are on PRIVATE property. We have no massive public lands with roads all over them. We have trails that are a mile long with 10 landowners we have to get individual permission from for each part.... If a Carl pisses off 1 landowner in that trail section that whole trail is lost. We have had that happen to many times and what used to be a fun day loop ride is now 2 out and back dead end rides you can’t do in a day. These Carl’s like to flip off and swear at landowners too while he or she of a wide age range is making huge plumes of dust and spraying rocks everywhere with 150+ hp...! This is great when the club has to go beg to keep the trail open because of this ass. Oh and you basically can’t ride in Connecticut, Massachusetts and parts of New York State because of development AND Carl’s! So all these Carl’s come up to Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont to join our Carl’s for the weekend of don’t give shit Fun then go home and don’t see the trails closed til next month or year. But they just go further north to cause more damage...next time. Sorry for the rant but I have riding since the 80s and in clubs for the last 18 years and the last few years have been unbelievable with the amount of issues from newbies to just plain Carl’s and the HP wars and width growth of machines. We are losing trails and help at an unsustainable rate. Up here no club means people are supposed to get individual written permission for every piece of property they cross. Clubs get permission for all but we get less people helping and more people hurting every day.. Much needed video, Thanks!!!

      And the manufacturers of the side-by-side's are to blame too. They have to compete with each other to have the most horsepower. You don't need 170 hp in a side-by-side. These idiots buy them because they have to have the most powerful side-by-side in the group. They have to show off.

Blasting their idiotic stereos and racing around town and I've had enough. Been into SXS's since 2009 and the wife and I are done. Toyhauler and sxs are sold. Lost count how many times we met a sxs totally sideways and out of control in a corner only to get flipped off because apparently we weren't supposed to be there. They are ignorant to any hand signals and only think you're waving at them. The clueless idiot newbies have ruined the sxs sport.
