theres no way this will catch on, i own a tesla m3p with the way cops drive and the demand they put on their cars the range will drop by 40% and if their shifts are around 10-12hrs long back to back the EV will not handle it. Especially if you go from a busy day then all of sudden they get a pursuit at the end of their shift, there will be no range left.
How many pursuits do they actually get in NZ, though?
@@rentamobtv cops do a lot of chases and they can be flat out busy for 12 hours straight especially in auckland where every call out is practically them just thrashing the motor and battery. Battery degredation is a real thing, even with just the a/c heater on u can lose 20-30% battery. You add aggressive driving, lights, sirens, etc... they would need to fast charge daily which is not good on the battery life. Not to mention the BMW EV they purchased is around 120-150k, double the price of the skodas.

No, even a fossil car can't drive in flood water .. most cop cars are meant to be driven on road.. with no water .Boats and special vehicles like bushmaster with ground clearance can wade through water ..

I've seen a lot of videos of EVs in water and never seen one stall.
But ICE cars will stall if water gets into the air intake.
Yes they can, all though driving any vehicle through water is highly advised against the battery within a EV is extremely well protected against water.
And if we're being logical, car manufacturers know how some vehicles are used, they know what their customers might put their vehicles through, I don't think they'd manufacture a car and then be like "oh woops, we forgot about water, doi"

Waste of money. A Tesla model 3 is almost half the price and better on almost any spec. Yet another example of a government department wasting our money. Tesla model 3’s are the police car of choice in California yet we choose an inferior more expensive product.
Actually it’s slightly better spec than a model 3 on paper in some areas such as range and acceleration but a model 3 sport which is still cheaper is 4 wd and much much faster than the bmw. The RWD model 3 at 67k before subsidy offers plenty of range and performance for a police car. It charges just as fast in the real world and has access to the Tesla charger network which is a big bonus. I just don’t understand the decision making process here. The model 3 RWD cost of ownership must be much lower than a BMW and parts are likely to be easier to source than the low volume BMW i4. The Tesla has a bigger boot and a frunk which is perfect for extra gear storage which I think would be great for a police car. Tesla has a higher safety score. If you are going to trial an ev you should go with the industry leader.
Oh yeah. The bmw uses ternary cells with a recommended daily charge of 80% max so is it really any longer range than a Tesla with LFP cells with a recommended daily charge limit of 100%. The answer is not really. I welcome the police to reach out to me and discuss further.
@@techguy8571 Suspension is better on BMW Range is good and engines are stronger in 100-200range. I have a I4 myselves and its a dam good car. Specially if you spend 8 hours a day in it. Comfort is good.
Tesla doesn’t have nearly as much room, worse build quality and crucially doesn’t offer fleet pricing models. It baffles me that agencies in North America would opt for a Tesla when it’s a blatant misuse of taxpayer’s money. Many agencies have pre-established ties & contracts with Ford which offers the Mustang Mach E and offer them with fleet pricing.

Australia now uses Bmw 5 series, VW Passat, Kia Stinger, Bmw x5 suv as well! Smart choice.
The UK has just banned BMW vehicles from its police fleet and for good reason... this decision is baffling

@@WayToManyAssassins an old Diesel engine found in the F10 & F15 generation of BMW 5 series & X5s were found to be prone to catching fire. This was determined after an investigation into the death of an officer on duty who was burned alive in his car back in 2020.
Now get st john and the ambulance service some new whips, they need funding.

They already have hybrid versions of the skoda superb. This is to trial full electric.

This isn’t a BMW contract yet & Skoda couldn’t deliver a fully electric car for another year. The 4 cars are to test the viability of range and charging & whatever else , then if they like the characteristics of electric cars they will then go out to tender with whichever manufacturer wants to submit a proposal.
There is not a full contract like there was with Holden. Police are free to buy whatever vehicle they feel are best for the role.
They do but they don't just buy Skodas, they also have Toyota hiluxs, VW vans, isuzu trucks etc. Different vehicles for different roles, skoda patrol cars are just one of the main fleets.

@@skaxman99 They literally stated it, skoda enyaqs (Skodas only full electric) are still a year away from being at this level, and yes they still plan on getting those anyway. These are literally to test the electric vehicle concept not this actual particular electric vehicle, again, as stated. If skoda already had an electric superb prime one then they would no doubt be using that instead for the trial, but they don't, so the cant🤷♂️

Pray they don't get another months long power cut in Auckland . nice car but ,wonder whos funding that ?.

EVs have the lowest fires per 100’000 vehicles in the US according to their insurance company statistics.
25 EV fires per 100’000 vehicles last year compared to 1250 petrol car fires per 100’000 vehicles.
Facts are out there and if you stop your confirmation bias you can actually find them.
EVs catch fire far less than ICE vehicle's, the issue is a fire from an electric vehicle is more toxic and durable than that within an ICE engine.
