On sweet potatoes - here on PEI, zone 5, there is a young company growing sweet potatoes. I bought 20 lbs from them to experiment with their cultivar as help a local better their product. What I received were large beautiful sweet potatoes..., impressive! They will be selling sweet potatoes all winter to their individual clients this year. I don't think they sell to large commercial chains yet. But the reason I'm mentioning it is that they must be growing their sweet potatoes outside, not in a greenhouse. I put sweet potatoes in the garden and they grew but haven't harvested yet. So I can't say how they did. I'm not expecting much because they were originally from the grocery store and not a potato for short seasons. I'm anxious to use this cultivar grown in our local zone next season. I'll let you know if there is a difference.
Cool hope your crop works out ! and the new local tuber stock, that sounds good !
Yeah me too I just purchased conventionally grown sweet potato’s from the grocery store. I had the slips growing in containers pretty early but they didn’t get planted out till later.
Can’t remember the date. I’ll get them going earlier next year.
Yeah I’m gonna look for a short season variety.
You are the best 😅😅😅I love you ❤❤❤
😊 🌀 Thanks for the kind words
I just found your channel and I love it! I had to post because I've never seen anyone else use the dead hydrangea flowers as mulch like I do in my garden. 😄
Haha sweet yes indeed 😄 they also make a great pillow for naps in the garden hehe

@@_SunRa_ So bouncy! And they keep the digging creatures out of my oca tubers. I got my zinnia and calendula seeds sown this evening and now for some zzzz's and dreaming of spring. Happy gardening!
@@sarahlindhartsen9412 awe yes those are some very wonderful flowers to be growing! I wish zinnias self seeded like the calendula dose. That reminds me though, thanks, -I’d like to see more calendula around and about hmmm maybe I’ll start some as well 😄
Happy Spring 💚
Love your informal and intelligent gardening style. Such abundant gardens! Where are you that you don't get enough sun hours for sweet potatoes? New sub.
😊thanks so much !
Welcome to the channel !

I think one local farm grows some sweet potatoes but they are in an open field/farm land and lower elevation …I’ll be more successful next year I’m determined Hehe 😄
Im going to get slips or the tubers of a short season variety.
Definitely inspired by your videos! What editing software do you use?
Gratitude 🙏🏼 thank you!
Imovie - it’s good enough but i am at a point now where I can see some limitations; areas I’d like more options, etc.
Gonna check some of your vids out later 😊
Fun video! where are we?
Thanks 😊 Kootenays BC Canada zone 5a
The music is a little to loud sometimes. It should be easier to hear you over the music.
Ok thanks yeah when I compressed the video the volume levels changed I really noticed this time…
I thought I was the only person that said, “put the beds to sleep” for winter!!
Hehe it’s a gardening term I believe 😊
one suggestion, try not to cut the leaves of your sweet potato.. cutting stems will produce more leaves than producing roots..
Oh hmm I’ve heard when growing sweet potato’s in a short season/cool climate that pruning back the foliage helps direct the energy to the tubers have you ever heard this ?
I could see how the vine would want to grow more vegetative growth though by chopping it back and thus spending more energy regrowing leaves and less root.
I’ve heard this from a very knowledgeable gardener maybe he’s wrong…
@@_SunRa_ we've been planting sweet potatoes and what weve experience, without cutting the vines, we could harvest it just within the 5th month.
