The holiday bulk is my favorite, I get to eat Grandma's Christmas cookies and go hard with my strength training. Studies have shown that 100 percent of a Christmas cookie from your grandma turns into muscle, it's science
150lb late twenties male here. I've been using the podcast to educate myself & Love the show! Been obsessed binge watching content because of the degree of detail you guys go over😊. After 3 months of watching you guys, last week I pulled the trigger to finally get a home gym set up in my room. Ajustible bench, Ajustible dumbbells, bands & pull up tower. My goal is to get stronger and build my chest, I am on the skinny side right now. I really enjoy that high resolution of details explained because it really helps me in understanding fitness, but most importantly removing all the bs thats out there of hype trends ,bro science, and misinformation. A deeper understanding always helps , this dirty bulk was a topic ive seen people argue about in real life before. i didnt have a good understanding of is it good or bad and i dont like not knowing. Now i have a clearer idea and 100% will help in navigating fitness and staying healthy. The dirty bulk i think comes at the price of addiction, those sweets and processes food are just too good to quit suddenly, becoming bad habits. I like that nutrition is addressed in the podcast, would like to see more honest conversations over this. Nutrition is on its own a monster to solve and think about. To many big businesses all claiming to be healthy so it can be tough to navigate.
Literally one of the first fitness channels on RUclips that stressed PRINCIPLES over specific fitness technicalities that vary from person to person. Good thing these guys have the wisdom to realize how this message translates in the context of the whole internet. Needless to say , their emphasis on the psychological component of exercise. Priceless. Thank you MindPump for educating the next gen on fitness and health!!
awsome advice , not only has the show changed my life has also helped a friend who I informed who has never heard of this show just by proxy, and is thanking me for more energy for his family ,broke out of his low calorie high cardio lifestyle ,to eat a lot more and dial in intensity
You guys rock very motivating I started lifting and training may 23 its now Nov 23 I'm down 58 pounds and feel great i was 5'6" 198lbs im now a solid 140 and starting to pump the weights thanks for what yall do
I've been at sub 10% for 11 months now. Started training more, was still at a plateau. Eating whole foods, there was no way I could eat the 4000+ calories I needed to gain weight. Scaled back my training to limit expenditure while still working in about 3800 cals. Finally adding strength and weight.
I’ve ran about 16,000 miles over the last 9 years..because of Mindpump, I gave up running last week and I’m trying to reprogram my mind and body to build strength and muscle. I’m pretty nervous because running has been my focus forever and I have such a habit to run 6-7 miles a day. Your help has been pivotal in my understanding of speeding your my metabolism and dropping bodyfat. Thank you!🙏

I've gone through a dirty bulk and it just wasn't for me. The strength gains were there, but I felt miserable and stuffed all the time. But this is something everyone has to find out for themselves. Great advise though, guys!
I'd love to try dirty bulking but I don't WANT to eat unhealthy foods because it makes me feel like crap and I I'm having a hard time even getting a surplus. because of my high activity. My body subconsciously moves even more when I eat more it's weird. But especially for women having trouble with hormones because of low body fat, a dirty bulk will probably restore balance much faster than a controlled or even restrictive approach!
Mind Pump: Making my drive to work more enjoyable and my workouts more beneficial. I just want to say thanks. As a dad of 4 and a busy life, restarting my health journey at 39 seemed impossible. With your knowledge and inspiration, I realize it is very much doable. Thank you for taking the time to help others. Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless -Matt Eikenberg.
I would definitely not benefit from a dirty bulk. I already fight food cravings as it is, and I have PCOS, so dirty affects me a dozen more ways than some. But I also have family that have tried dirty bulk and struggle to gain even a pound😢, so I see both sides. When I was younger, I was very active in sports. My mom always told me that my eating would catch up with me when I was no longer active. Boy, was she right😅. Now, 2 kids later, all my muscle is gone, body fat is dumb high. I gained and lost 80lbs, but find myself skinny fat, so building muscle is my goal again. So glad I found this podcast! Currently binge watching and appreciate your consistent and frequent content!! You're changing the world more than you realize🙏🏽🫶🏼
The dirty bulk I think is just a bad habbit waiting to stick, if your active it can be okay , but If you take a new office job or life changes that you don't workout at much while having more stress. The dirty bulk and it's sugar cravings can come with vengeance. Happen to my family, they were in sports young , ate alot, and got used to it. Fast forward 20 years they still eat alot and are 🐳 , because they are so used to eating like that, basically tradition now. Plus cookies 🍪& and milkshakes with ice cream are sooo good. stopping that Gravy train is easier said than done... especially if you like Biscuits with gravy 😋
It's ok to have cheat days once or twice a week...or perhaps every 2 weeks, if your metabolism is real slow. You gotta be disciplined and ration out your portions to avoid excessive weight gain.
Thank you so much for this episode. I have reverse dieted from 500-800 calories a day to a maintenance of 2100-2300 calories a day over the past 4 months. I eat 130- 140 g of protein a day through whole foods. I am a 5 foot tall female and was 120 pounds. I was able to maintain that body weight throughout this reverse dieting process while dropping about 2% body fat according to my bathroom scale. However, since pushing to my final calorie range, I’ve lost about 5 pounds, but have struggled to push past that calorie range even by adding shakes. I’ve always been skinny and was praised for being so, but I am really wanting to put on muscle and I’m not afraid of putting on the pounds. I am currently running anabolic, the no BS six pack program, and working with a trainer three times a week. My ultimate goal is to get as strong as possible and see how far I can push that strength. I have never tried bulking or cutting, but that will be changing now. Bring on the dirty bulk during this holiday season.
I’m treating my Thanksgiving as a dirty bulk 😂 You guys have helped me cut body fat, have a healthier relationship with food, get stronger, and so much more. I appreciate you guys so much. I’m thankful for Mind Pump!!! 💯💪
I love mind pump!! No matter WHAT I THINK I know I can get clarification here... I'm gonna be on your show some day. I've ate so clean since April 23 I can't stand the thought of bread or pop.. 61 pounds down.. I was at 1800 calories for 7 months.. 61 pounds down. Bodyfat went from 40 to 16.7... currently I've pushed the calories to 2800.. I'm gonna gain 10 pounds to bump start my fat loss then push down to mid 14's.. Needless to say I weigh my food, log,track,lift... it is SO FUN!! I'm not enjoying 2800 calories at all but it'll be worth it. I DO have a workout question that I haven't heard anyone ask yet.. very applicable to my situation..
Been dirty bulking for four months. Started at 144lbs now I am 163. Bench went from 155 to 181. Noticeable fat gain around waist and definitely more lethargic, but I happy with my results so far. I plan on continuing through February and then I will start to slowly cut
worked for me. i was 6'5, always around 185lbs and wanted to break that 200lb limit. unfortunately shrinkflation exists and everything is low cal/low carb etc and i have a fast metabolism and love cardio (biking, fighting, jogging etc) over lifting. got to 220 and feeling good but want to cut a bit of the belly and go healthier now. but every once in awhile i do a double take on myself cause i like not being so boney
Yeah I was like 168 lbs with decent body fat percentage but I was crash dieting , then I went to a bulk which turned into a dirty bulk because I had such a hard time controlling the foods I reintroduced to my body , now I’m back to 195 with a noticeable about of body fat gained , I gained muscle but more fat then wanted , finally a year later finally getting the reigns back and eating better
Thank god 🙏 you have got to love a dirty bulk😂 Unfortunately, I was doing that for years, and it definitely didn't pay off for me, but finding you guys MP IM NOW eating clean and 11kg down with about 18% body fat, so thank you guys you are all legends.
So it sounds like there’s a time and a season for everything. Mental health and physical health. Don’t judge others process and don’t compare. Just listen to MP and do what they say.
Great topic! I just went on a small calorie deficit for about 4 weeks to prep for a "dirty bulk" in December that's really just eating in enough of a surplus to hit my DL and Squat goals for the end of the year... and maybe a small excuse to have a PB&J in the evening 🤷🏽♂️
The answer to that question is probably in the details How dirty? And is it a 19 year old who just can't gain weight? Or a previously obese 40 year old who wants to build muscle...
After going from 367 to 139 then joining a gym last year I've put on about 8-11pounds I couldn't put on a lot of weight for most of the year as I needed to show a stable weight for a operation. I was eating 3kcalories and walking 12-16 miles a day while training 4 or 5 days depending on the split I was doing. Last month I got my referral so I could gain weight so I cut my walks to 5 miles on training and 8 on rest. Dropped my calories to 2500 thinking that would be a slight surplus with the aim to go on a long bulk and get my maintenance back to 3k was hovering between 144-147 for 7 months at 3k with the long walks depending on water weight I assume/ I'd have the same pizza each week it fit my macros but I'd always gain 2/3 pounds the next day putting me up to 147ish then over the week I'd go back to 144 then have the pizza and go back to 147. Problem now is I put my calories up to 2800 and my weight is already barely moving I had a spike first 2 weeks of 2800 now it's hovering back and forth again. I was hoping getting back to a 3k maintenance was going to take a decent amount of time. When I started at 2500 then went to 2800 after a week I was 146 I was worried I'd hit my set weight limit of 177lbs before I got my 3k maintenance back.
Thank you so much for all you do. Needed to hear this because I know I don't eat enough. Suppose to consume 1500 calories and it's challenging. But, when I eat these "highly palatable foods" my stomach talks back and feel inflamed. But sure enjoy the taste.
Is 30 mins on the elliptical a day while I’m in a calorie deficit to much cardio. Im trying to lose fat and try and keep as much muscle as I can but I do like doing cardio. Should I continue doing this or should I stop and just lift longer
Is it worth while to talk about whole foods and how much of macros gets absorbed? The issue I find with whole foods is that a rib eye of 400gm may contain, let’s say 100 grams of protein but is that what your body digests?
23:19 yeah Justin my highschool son (14) is on the basketball and tennis team plus he's working with me in the gym. Lean kid 6 foot. I think he needs like 3500 calories to move the needle. He eats good whole foods at home and a shake or two a day.
I would say that training your mind and having the discipline to say no more is a good topic to discuss also. It was incredibly difficult for me to leave behind the sweets and go back to carnivore when it was time to.
I can imagine, it's hard right now to quit sweets not on a dirty bulk but if you indulge and your body gets Accustomed to it, to the point it becomes normal. Stopping will be tough... I personally can't help myself to a hot & ready donut driving. If I see a Krispy cream , I want the donut 🍩 obviously, your not going to just get 1 donut. Since your there might as well get the box of donuts .luckly my family will end up eating the donuts lol but not helpful in my nutrition.
I’m 28. if I eat too much greasy foods now I get sick. Like one menu item from fast food is all I can handle unless it’s Taco Bell. - less greasy. I wish Taco Bell and other fast foods had whole grain tortillas and corn versus flour. Flour isn’t good same goes for all the flour / white bread buns. They’re gross and Cheap.
I genuinely don’t know what category I fall into. I’ve lost 70 pounds over the last couple years to the point I had to stop weighing myself because I can’t figure out how to stop loosing and it’s stressful. I’m not trying to loose weight though so my diet is to help my migraines and other health issues so how do you dirty bulk when processed foods and sugar give you major crashes. Maybe just stick to adding cheeseburgers? lol 😂
I switched from my cut at about 1800-2000 calories to my "maintenance" calories at 3000 and I noticed that I found i burned nearly 4000 when I switched to that. Is that just my body being "shocked" by the surplus or is it more likely because I can go harder in the gym since I have more food? I don't want to up it more just because its hard to add more to clean eating
The comment that people will "go off" without atleast listening to the whole discussion is unfortunately a sign of times. Being able to put aside your current ideal and listen to other people before responding is a lost skill 😂
18:09 ...being unhealthy lean where the body is deficient in nutrients is exactly the worst time to dirty bulk, 'cos if highly palatable, nutrient lacking food constitutes a chunk of what gets into the body then the person still stays deficient in nutrients. So no, this mainstream dietitian advice of "just get the kcal in" is totally wrong.
The holiday bulk is my favorite, I get to eat Grandma's Christmas cookies and go hard with my strength training. Studies have shown that 100 percent of a Christmas cookie from your grandma turns into muscle, it's science

5 to 800 calories a day? You must've been starving
@@ronmexico79 I would be so busy all day and forget to eat, then not feel hungry because my body was use to the lack of food.

Hmmm… this is perfect timing for the holidays🎉
1:45am here perfect time to tune in😁
I can relate to this! I find sweet treats that fit my macros but they really do become addictive. 😫
Happy Thanksgiving Mind Pump.
If the FDA allows the labels to be 20% off, how do you know if you're hitting your macro targets?
I got addicted to those Quest cookies and cream bars too!
I had two six day weekends in Paris and Brussels drinking beer and eating indulgent food. Have I been dirty bulking?
Great discussion.
Is it worth while to talk about whole foods and how much of macros gets absorbed? The issue I find with whole foods is that a rib eye of 400gm may contain, let’s say 100 grams of protein but is that what your body digests?

Thanks for the timing on this one 😂
I’m 28. if I eat too much greasy foods now I get sick.
Basically you shouldn't be dirty bulking unless you're skinny as hell and can't gain weight
If I don't get this free workout plan... I'm gonna dirty bulk 🤷🏾
I also cannot dirty bulk for too long because it goes to my stomach 😢 and I already have slim breast and butt so it looks really bad on my body type
Taboo subject, handled with appropriate attention. Well played
Quest bar cookies and cream. Hooked ! 😂.
Love the videos
Let’s go !
I genuinely don’t know what category I fall into. I’ve lost 70 pounds over the last couple years to the point I had to stop weighing myself because I can’t figure out how to stop loosing and it’s stressful. Dirty bulk: big challenge for some people and a skill for others 🤣
I switched from my cut at about 1800-2000 calories to my "maintenance" calories at 3000 and I noticed that I found i burned nearly 4000 when I switched to that. Probably both
Here I am at 30kg overweight secretly hoping that a dirty bulk is for me 🤣
Ive been dirty bulking for 44 years haha
Permabulk 💪

Will a dirty bulk(with whole cooked food) be a good choice for a skinny fat guy with a tummy?
