Thank you so much for creating this instructional video. I'm debating about renting a car in Italy and this helps my stress level on how to put gas in a car. Mentioning the card chip was a super helpful tip. My next stress issue is avoiding the toll booths. Yikes!
The toll booths are super easy. Generally you drive through the first booth as you enter the highway and pick up a ticket. When you exit the highway, look at the sign over each lane - it will have both words and symbols for if that lane accepts cards or cash. Usually Italians pay in cash so those lanes are longer. If you pay with a card (chip card) those lanes are generally without lines. Avoid EZ-Pass lanes which are clearly marked as that is for the automatic EZ-Pass holders only.
This is really helpful. I’m driving from Germany down to Milan tonight. So it’ll be around midnight when I’m In Italy. So I’m sure a lot of places will be closed. Hopefully everything goes well.
The paper sign on the pump was trying to tell you the card reader didn't work. Basically said "All bank cards and Credit cards "all interno" all inside! And I don't even speak Italian!😉
Sorry, I'm just seeing this. But you don't generally get change. I suggest paying with a card whenever possible for that reason. Otherwise with cash, it's best to shoot for "under" what you might need.

Super helpful about to head to Italy and the fact that a lot of these machines only take cash is very good to know.
