In the context of Sweden, the unions and social democratic party have chosen a path of collaboration with the bourgeoisie and thus often neglect working men issues to remain in good terms with the capitalists.
@@DenisBourveau I still don’t see how that’s justification to be anti union, the are democracies that are borderline authoritarian nowadays but I don’t see that as a reason to lose faith in democracies, just capitalist democracies. Restructuring the unions into direct democratic organisations of workers is the solution, not tossing out unions entirely.
@@felixtheredfox1778 The song doesn't mention being against unions in general, just the particular union at the shipyard, which would have been a conventional union well-connected to the social democratic party which wouldn't want to seem too radical. I don't think Berglund would have been against a more radical union at the time, so there's no mention of tossing out unions entirely. // Red Moose

Damn what a great song, he sounds like a mixture of Hannes Wader and Luke Kelly. Thanks for sharing and translating. The lyrics are great as well.

A beautiful song with a solemn theme and message true as the day it was written.

I liked most of the song but the anti-union pro Marx/Lenin message turned me off, otherwise great
