When my grandfather came from Arcella to NYC and then to Canada he met my grandmother on the train. They fell in love and married. She made these for us. Problem was she was coming from Scotland and didn't speak Italian. He didn't speak English. They had a big family and a long happy life. So maybe the language barrier was actually their "secret spice". ;>} Thank you so much for your videos!
Oh my Dear Gina, my mother used to make something very similar (I’m 79). She used different spices in them, but no matter. No one ever knew what I was talking about, and I could not explain. Her recipe was lost. I used to watch her make the dough, roll, cut, and use the fork after cutting. Then she would fry them. She pronounced “Cannaricol”. Through the years I’ve searched for a recipe to no avail, today, I was blessed to tune in and see what you were cooking. My mother also used a syrup. I’m so happy, I have tears in my eyes; they are tears of joy. Thank you and God Bless you.
Gina's been a blessing to all of us Italians with missing recipes! I just love her.♥️ This recipe was missing for me too! The thing I love most is I know Gina has the real authentic version of each recipe she makes. God bless Gina and her wonderful family for creating this channel for us. I'm forever grateful.♥️✝️🕊️
Wonderful video. I cherish all of Gina's recipes. My favorite parts are always when she sings. Back in the 70s, growing up we had a local pizza place owned by an Italian family who was well loved in our area. I remeber as a kid hearing their Nonna singing in the kitchen while making pizza. Those memories are ingrained in my mind as well as the amazing scents and to-die-for food coming from that little place. Gina, you take me back there all the time. Much love ❤️ to you and your family from Florida.
Grandma Gina, I grew up in a Dutch neighborhood where there were lots of wonderful Grandmas teaching the girls how to cook the Dutch recipes. However, there weren't any Italian Grandmas and so you have been my patient teacher for all those wonderful dishes that I love but never could make as good as the restaurants. God Bless and Thank you for the many wonderful meals you have taught the world. P.S. Keep Singing!
My mother called them struvolli. We didnt shape them with a fork. We just cut them small and added more honey so they were sticky. At Christmas time we'd shape them into a wreath and shake sprinkles over the top. They are delicious!👌❤
My grandmother who was from Naples made these. She made them at Christmas. I didnt know the name of them. I called them Grandmoms WINE COOKIES. I Loved them as a kid. I made them a few times. But haven't done it in a long time.❤😊
It's a good day when I get to see Nona Gina! I love to hear your stories of when you were little girl and singing while teaching us delicious recipes! God Bless and love you Gina!!❤❤
My grandmother lived with us and she spoke Italian all the time. I picked up all I could as a child. Now, I am learning Italian. Part of learning Italian is to hear it a lot. I loved the end of the video Gina when you spoke in Italian. Please do more of it in your future videos. I want to pass on to my children the love of the Italian language. Thank you.
Gina thank you for sparking my old memories too. I remember my mother and her mother making these. The only difference was they rolled them into tiny balls. For Easter they would pile them into a pyramid and add sprinkles. Good old memories.
Gina, we love you, think of you every day , pray for your health snd happiness and watch your videos as many time as it takes till you make a new video. God Bless you☝️💚😘🤗
So beautiful to hear you speaking at the end…reminds of mom and Nona and all my aunts and uncles at family gatherings.I didn’t speak Italian but loved listening to the stories anyway…I’m 74 now and lost my last uncle this year( mom was one of 10 kids)…it’s sad knowing that generation is gone now…but I have a he best memories of them all…and oh the food was unbelievable!!!!!

My grandmother many years ago made a treat very similar to this recipe, she came from Lipari one of Italy's Aeolian islands...the treat was called Gigi. My other grandmother came from Foggia San Marco in Lamis an area where I think Nonna Gina came from. Pity many of my grandmothers' recipes were never written down :(
Gina, you're the absolute best....always sharing, giving and loving us with your beautiful recipes, smile and sign of the cross, to boot God smile on you, dear lady.🙏..thank you for all that you do and teach us...such a blessing Hugs Judy🌞
