  • www.crosstraini... Free mods to increase lubrication of your clutch plates! There is a lot of 'clutch slipping' in slow hard terrain, and lubrication of the clutch plates becomes very important to avoid hard enduro clutch problems. But it can also be a factor in fast terrain. As riders become more experienced, they will use the clutch as an extension of the throttle. Need hard enduro training? Avoid burned clutch plates Work through our video lists. And again, lubrication becomes important to avoid clutch noises. These free clutch modifications were performed by David Bates from infamous Dangermouse RUclips channel. Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. He adopted these tips from a Sherco Race Team that have used them successfully. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos.Do you need extra clutch lubrication? Most riders? Probably not. However if you regularly get those horrible sounds from an overworked clutch, these mods might be a good idea. Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. Ditto if you regularly smell burning clutch plates. Or if they actually start burning. We will drill holes in various clutch parts to increase lubrication. You can see huge holes in aftermarket clutches for this reason. And a final warning! Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques. Try these mods at your own risk. This is usually what happens to anyone who follows my mechanical advice. Push the rear caliper in. Insert a big screwdriver to hold the brake lever down. Remove the clutch cover and bolts. Remove the clutch plates. I highly recommend taking photos! It's easy to forget the order of parts during re-assembly. Check your clutch plates. Fitting new plates? Ideally soak the fibre plates overnight. Let the drilling commence! Open your second beer. Never trust a mechanic who keeps giving you a 'thumbs up' every 10 seconds. If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. If you are anxious, open your third beer. David is actually a motor mechanic who knows his stuff. And that's it, folks! We did this to Jeff's Sherco 250SE because his clutch regularly makes weird noises in very gnarly terrain. Me? No noises from my clutch yet. But I will definitely do these mods if my clutch starts complaining.

    We aren't recommending this mod, we are simply passing on a mod used by a Sherco race team successfully, and also done to a few bikes by the mechanic in this video. Read our disclaimer first before using any of our info: bit.ly/2U0bgCy

    You’re brave letting that rascal Batesy near ya bike 😆
    I’ve also never experienced any strange noises or slipping on the stock clutch. Nearly 200hrs of hard enduro on my 2021 before I swapped for a 2023.
    Must be luck of the draw!
    Very interesting stuff regardless, thanks for sharing.

      Over the years I've found that known issues are almost always a small percentage. E.g. Beta main bearing failures were only about 5%. Most TPI owners don't have issues bur a small number have engines seizing or doing weird stuff. This problem with Adler clutch plates only happens occasionally in Shercos but just often enough to call it a 'known issue' in my opinion.

    Yeah have had some squarking clutch for sure oil is key l recently started using ipone 10/40 gear box oil on my 2019 sherco 125 it has been better than other oils l have used having said that l have done 80 hrs on my stock clutch in hard single track and minor wear on plates but the springs had lost some tension but were still in spec l would recommend the ipone 10/40 and drilling the clutch would be worth the effort if you have to service the plates or springs thanks for the video instructions
    Ps gearing plays a big part on loading the clutch l run goat gearing 12/52 as the 125 has not much bottom end an the flywheel is a tad to heavy lm told the later models have lighter flywheel

    Might be something I need to do for my beta 200... Changing the gearing helped a lot with the squawking clutch, but only in 1st gear. At least that change was easy!

    I've done 2 clutches.
    1 on a CRF250 Rally, which I blame on the 'judder spring' system, clutch was dead at 1,400 miles, new clutch with no judder spring system is still going at over 16,000 miles..
    1 on my DR350, but I didn't know the history of the original clutch etc, it died on a slippery climb in Wales, was OK limping it around but it would slip if worked hard, so ended my weekend early. Replaced with an EBC 'dirt' clutch and it's been good since, but can require adjustment to the cable if the clutch is worked hard on slippery climbs etc, and then re-adjustment once it's cooled down again - maybe this mod is the answer....

    Since my shift shaft cracked sadly now at 50hours on my 2023 se300 and I will have to take the clutch out anyway, I will drill some holes in the basket. I like the mod. Will definitely help to keep the clutch cool. I still have the first clutch discs in so I am curious how they look after 50hours. Only clutch mod so far was to use a set of ktm springs for easier clutch lever pull. Cheers from Germany, love your channel!

      Hopefully your clutch plates will be fine, Johannes. The majority are fine, it seems to only be a small percentage that fail early.

    The teardrop scoops were a nice touch. Are you and Jeff running the same oil? Mine howled like hell on Maxima MTL but not on their 5w40 Extra. I still had a couple quarts of MTL after swapping, and the howl would come right back. Sensitive to oil types for sure.

    Perhaps the Forums may be better to ask this but are the inside and backside holes both chamfered to aid in forcing oil to the interior of the clutch basket?

    I have an 07 Sherco 510 with a sticking clutch.
    If the bike sits for a day or two... I start it, put it in gear and it stalls, without releasing the clutch.
    I've had to break the plates loose 'manually' (don't ask... your sphincter will tighten) to go for a ride.
    I hear using Honda CRF450 plates is a fix, but I wonder if improved lubrication might help as well.
    Opinions?

    i have a 22' 300 factory and added a clake one light clutch and now the range of the friction zone is so short that i end up stalling or lurching the bike. the thing is i dont know if it is directly relatef to the clake as the clutch was a little awkward before. when i did the plates a few were shsttered in the basket. i have bled a couple of times and am willing to do it more but am hoping to find someone who might had the same problem. i figured the boys fown under would be the best place to start and then on to thumpertalk. i have heard the clutch is the weak point on the sherco and have to say the low in grunt is a highlight

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  8 месяцев назад

      The Adler clutch plates have a small but noticeable failure rate in Shercos. I don't know why Sherco keeps using them. 😒 I'd say inspect the plates first and consider doing the mods in this vid. Otherwise... how old is the Clake? They can benefit from a service every few years. If they aren't busy, Owen the owner of Clake will bend over backwards to help.

    today I did the mod because we have some problems with clutch.I usually change oil every single ride but isn't enough I suppose.I think that doing some holes is less expensive than the other solution.. buying rekluse manual core or torque drive, that is really expensive..unfortunately on my wife's clutch the puller is also heavily worn..maybe we must change also this part..do you know some brands of clutch for sherco?

    • @crosstrainingenduro
      @crosstrainingenduro  Год назад +1

      If you seach the Sherco forums and Facebook page groups you'll find discussions about alternative clutch plates e.g. from Honda. I didn't include this info as I couldn't verify these would work definitely.

    • @crosstrainingenduro

But also never mind the fact that I removed two clutch springs to make my finger not hurt so much when I pull in my lever. Weeee back to drilling my clutch and removing springs. Nobody need all the clutch springs anyways eh guys 🤦‍♂️
