- Recently, five ancient-style murals in the phenomenal game Black Myth: Wukong have drawn significant attention for their rich traditional charm, compelling narratives, and dramatic tension.
These artworks were created by Wang Yixin (王怡新), a PhD candidate at the School of Chinese Painting, #chinaacademyofart. Using the traditional technique of color on silk, she produced five silk paintings: "𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑅𝑖𝑑𝑑𝑙𝑒 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑏𝑜𝑎𝑟𝑑," "𝐵𝑟𝑒𝑤𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑊𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐻𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑃𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒," "𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑝𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑡 𝑎 𝑃𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑒," "𝐷𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑝𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑟𝑜𝑤'𝑠 𝑁𝑒𝑠𝑡," and "𝑆𝑛𝑜𝑤𝑦 𝑃𝑙𝑢𝑚 𝑀𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛," which are presented as murals in the game.
Wang Yixin's studies at the academy laid a solid foundation for her creative work. Through meticulous study and replication of ancient masterpieces, she delved deeply into techniques, materials, and aesthetics, crafting character group portraits that vividly reflect the narrative and stylistic essence of the original text. The intricate details of character relationships, expressions, and movements bring the scenes to life, showcasing Black Myth: Wukong's innovative approach to integrating traditional elements with modern storytelling and its deep exploration and reinterpretation of traditional cultural heritage.
As Black Myth: Wukong gains worldwide recognition, Wang Yixin's creations, carried through the medium of the game, showcase the profound depth and dynamic innovation of Chinese aesthetics to the world.
