I notice once again in the comments that nobody mentions the brilliant guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Danny Kirwan who was also in FM from 1968 to 1972. He was very sensitive and insecure and had trouble dealing with fame, but his skills were unmatched including his master of vibrato. I wish there was more video footage of him playing. I greatly admire Peter Green and the rest of the early lineup, but have a special place in my heart for Danny.
Their early stuff is amazing & so very underrated. Bluesy rock goodness. Peter Greene, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwin, Bob Welch...such great musicians in FM.
Peter Green....everybody knows ..great or greatest British blues guitarist. Idolized by the greats that followed in that era. Sadly didn't want the fame and fortune.
Fleetwood Mac had 9 albums BEFORE the Rumors lineup and had multiple people in the band in those 9 albums. It is very much worth it to go down the rabbit hole and listen to all those albums in order etc….I did that a few years back because I didn’t know there was a FM before Rumors either and what a huge body of diverse work they have. I like all the different eras. FM also did the original versions of Black Magic Woman of Santana fame, and Green Manalishi of Judas Priest fame, both written by Peter Green if I’m not mistaken. Also Bob Welch, who had some big hits in the late 70s was in FM before he went solo. Very interesting band with tons of good music.
I remember when quadraphonic was the latest thing. It wasn't really popular because few people had equipment too play it. Now it's called surround 4.0 and there's equipment that converts stereo into more channels.
Christine McVie was on all the early albums but the first one, but was uncredited on a few before she was officially joined in the band. She was a blues artist in her own band before she married the Bass player and joined FM. The only constant on all the albums are Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. They were both in the Bluesbreakers with peter Green and broke away to form their own thing and peter green named the band so when he left they could continue with new people. He knew he wasn’t going to stay in the band forever and he was the main guy. He also brought in other guitarist and singers again because he know he would be leaving. The history is really complex sordid and entertaining. Highly recommend checking it all out.
I'm pretty sure Kiln House was the first album she was on, although she wasn't officially in FM, at that time. She was in Chicken Shack until 1969, so she wasn't on all FM's earlier stuff. It was 1970 when she joined. I'm like Rain Man, when it comes to FM. 😊😊

They had hits with Hypnotized and Sentimental Lady. Part 2 of Oh Well is pretty much the outro extended.
I do hear the Fleetwood Mac that I know (ie. the hits) in the outro, but something else is bugging me... There's some other song (not Black Dog) where there is a break and then a vocal run and then the band comes back that this reminds me of (maybe even something in the 90s I'm thinking...), but it's not coming to mind right now...
WOW, OMG, I've played this in a band, I've seen Aerosmith, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, the Black Crowes, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers plus Canadian Colin James all do this song live and I think more that are not coming to mind right now BUT I never bothered to find out who's song it was 😢 WOW, I'm embarrassed 😅.
This is where you find out who the old hippies in your subscriber base are, Justin. 😃 I grew up with the Rumors lineup, but my older siblings had the Penguin album so I was vaguely familiar with that lineup. I've since gone back and picked up all of the Bob Welch albums and have Bare Trees next on my list. Not sure if I'm going to continue with the Peter Green stuff since I'm not a huge blues fan, and most of the early early stuff is heavily blues based. But this song in particular got a lot of airplay on college/FM radio in the 70's and 80's, and it's got quite a lot of variety and charm. That outro goes on for another minute or two -- not sure why he didn't just have you listen to the whole thing.
Good reaction, but I don't agree that a stereo mix would be better. As someone who grew up in this era and got to love so many of these classic tracks in mono, the stereo mixes I sometimes hear on reaction channels and elsewhere can sound weird to me. They often lack the punch and texture that has always been part of the well recorded mono original. A stereo mix, in my opinion, seldom improves a track that was recorded and mixed to sound good on radio, as records like "Oh Well" were. It was pop music, intended for the charts, and like a lot of people I probably heard it first on a little transistor.

Heard this song every now and then on a local classic rock station since I was a kid. It was years before I realized it was Fleetwood Mac.
