Quick correction about shields, they recharge after not being shot, after they are empty, they constantly regenerate while being shot if you still have some number in the shield meter, hence your actual health/survivability is the chargers, and the shield amount is there not to get one shotted, but the actual charging/regeneration of the shield is what you look to optimize, same with health, you need some, for the enemies that have shield piercing vulkan weapons, but they are countered by the flux shields that have cooldown and activation key.
Dude I bought this game the other day after I randomly found it on Steam. After playing it, I got to thinking "Man, Rhadamant would love this game." Good to see you playing this! It's really great.
Bought this game a couple years back and was like aight game looks cool, let's try an opportunistic scavenger/repo type run with the loose goal of being able to stealthily poach & tow the big boys and just see where it goes.. think I ended up putting in like 400+ hours before finally dabbling in permadeath (which honestly makes the game terrifying in an almost sunless sea sorta way). Absolutely stunning and surprisingly immersive space sandbox if you don't mind setting your own goals. Game punches way above its weight imo, looking forward to more!
It is really great, that you are playing this game now. I had my eyes on this for quite some time. Now I can see some gameplay and get additional information from you. Thank you for that. I love how you really take your time explaining all the technical aspects of the game. After watching these videos, I am sure, I will have a much better understanding of the game.

Well... in this case - i saw it somewhere but didnt find it very appealing on a very surface level/first impression. Now that i know what this game somewhat actually is i became very interested in as i like such games in particular!

Nice to see you play this, I bought this expecting slightly simpler starsector, but I was pretty disappointed with it, it seems really grindy and linear, with the gameplay loop basically not changing all the way through as far as I've been able to ascertain in 12 or so hours of gameplay, with no desire whatsoever to play it again. Hoping you showcase something pointing to stuff that has some replayability that isn't just "do the same thing except mine"
One piece of advice I have for you is never buy a game expecting it to be something that it isn't. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong or anything (opinions can't be wrong) but if you build up your expectations for a game to be different than the developer ever intended, you'll likely be disappointed with games even if they're great in their own way.
@@Rhadamant In principle, sure, but I mean, how would you ever get new games if you don't use your frame of reference? As far as I have played this game I am not disappointed because it's not more like starsector, I am disappointed because of the extremely limited gameplay loop I have experienced so far, which no information prepared me for because there is close to no information about this game other than a lot of people comparing it to starsector, or freelancer (with which I see even less comparison)

@@Rhadamant I think of it more as just a respectful nod particularly to indie developers by promoting the game and ways to legally buy it since it may not always be steam could be direct from the site like Starsector. But you do you
@@thehelixgroup I actually asked the developer directly if there was a way to support him more and he told me that steam was the best method. The only other two places he mentioned was Humble Bundle and GOG I think and he said that neither gave him a significantly better cut over steam so it didn't matter where people purchased it.
Last time I've played this the game was okay, but there wasn't much progression outside of just better ships / tech, similar to Endless Sky in that sense (I like the story in ES more). Not bad, but imo pretty limiting for a sandbox. Mind you, it's been nearly a year ago, don't know if anything changed.
@@Rhadamant I think they are trying to say you kinda need to scavenge no matter what main activity you pursue, as you cannot buy certain materials, such as refined metals.
@@Rhadamant Quite possible, I didnt go into mining, I was trying to parse what this person said, and not being able to buy these mats tracked as while doing a bounty hunter run myself I found you could not buy these, which is correct, but it's good there's other means of obtaining them,
