    Wow… that frame should be replaced under warranty. The housing was always too big to hold the bearing in correct interference (manufacturing fault), possibly being further enlarged/ovalised by the outer race “spinning” in the poorly made housing.
    Also, the bearings inner races are spinning on your crank axle, wearing that away too. The correct way of interfacing the BB bearing and crank axle is with a softer plastic/delrin sleeve as per Shimano BB’s. I would also be claiming they replace my crankset too! Very poor design and manufacturing.
    Thanks for the video and very best of luck 👍

    Just had my non-drive side bearing replaced at a trek dealer. They used an NSK 6805 with a plastic spacer, which is what trek is supplying them with. However, when i took the bike back home i took the crankset off just to realise that the bearing they replaced was out of the frame. Apparently they didnt use any retaining compound like you did., i could just slide the bearing back to the frame without any press. Many thanks for the video i will try your way and see if it helps. BTW i didnt had any creacking issues, the bearing was just cooked.

      The bearing is finally properly fitted to the frame! It works like a dream! Thanks for sharing!

  • @JogBird

    your bb shell is worn, you can buy oversized bb90 bearings from trek that will fit beter

      totally, if you don't need the press, you need to go oversize.

    The whole issue is about incorrect interference fitting between bearing and housing. This issue can be mitigated by using a good tolerance bearing (e.g. NTN bearings) and pray that the tolerance on the housing in manufactured correctly. I am using NTN 6805 LLB Ultra Low Friction Seal bearing with SF7649 primer (for housing) and 641 Loctite. You will need the primer as Loctite 641 are for metal to metal surface, not carbon surface.

      Loctite 641 is still working well. What do you recommend instead ?

      @@jonpontet You don't have to do anything if the creaking improve. I am also using 641, but with a primer on the carbon surface.

    Did you replace the bearing since back then? How did it go, is it still possible to remove the bearing?

    Hows your bearings after months of usage? does the loctite work? my bearing is just like yours and able to easily fit in without any tools. obviously the carbon is worn. hope the loctite works great. thanks for your video anyways.

      @@jonpontet wow, thats good to hear. I ordered the normal size bearing before, but then i afraid to use it when i didnt have to use the press tool to fit them in. I returned them and got the Trek oversized bearing instead.

    do you think i can install without glue only with the pressure of bb tools? thanks!!

    • @jonpontet
      @jonpontet  4 года назад +1

      No- not in my experience. The whole issue is that the hole has become too big for the bearing :)

      Well I know the bearing wont simply fall out- I will need to use a BB removal tool next time. You might like to know that after 300km, this fix is still creak free :D

      @@jonpontet OK, thanks, Im performing my install of a Hambini BB tomorrow, I cleaned surface w Acetone, then Isopropyl alcohol. Logically, I find it interesting that grease is applied where you want the bearing and the spindle to actually have some friction, that is for one to turn the other, not slip around it.
