1) It is cello, not violin. 2) Apocalyptica have made cello rock and cello metal since 1993 and are pretty well-known. And cellos, violins and other orchestral instruments have been quite commonly used in rock & metal for decades, especially in Symphonic Rock/Metal & Folk Rock/Metal.
Please make a collaboration with apocalyptica for fields of verdun symphonic version, i pretty love what you've done with this song but i assume that the cellos sound make it so emotional, intense and tragic... It fit really the sadness of the scene from verdun.

I feel like they both are perfect in their own rights. The pace of the original is perfect in that it matches the chaos of the battlefield over he 303 days. The pace of this cover is perfect in that it kinda gives a visualization to the hopelessness the soldiers must have faced during the battle.
