Good discussion guys and wonderful perspective. It was disappointing to hear of this comment since I have always had great respected for Alistair Begg. I think you guys made a great point in that we don't need to throw a brother or a sister overboard if they are in error on a lower tier issue. Thank you as always!

I have yet to encounter a critic of Begg who can specifically name the "sin" he's supposedly committed. At most, they say, "I wouldn't have said that." Too many self-righteous Christ followers are quick to assume the role of judge. This issue isn't simple, nor can it be resolved with mere platitudes. Begg humbly suggests each Christian must personally work this matter out before the Lord, with fear and trembling, which stands in stark contrast to the arrogance of many of his critics. They presume to have figured it all out for every believer, and unless you align with their views, they deem you worthy of condemnation.

I AGREE , Christians are entitled to an opinion, while remaining respectful to a brother, but so many turned the event into witch hunt, some so called well known bloggers doing 2 or 3 videos on the subject. why 2 or 3 videos to give an opinion, hey lets rack them likes up and be condescending towards a brother in Christ. Such hypocrites!!"and sad to.

I think the last verse in Romans 1 speaks volumes. Does showing up at a gay wedding = approval?

    • @nae1777

@@shawnalLovesJesus While you're in Romans be sure to pay attention to 5:9, 10, "I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case, you would have to leave this world."
Then read 14 and notice vs 4, "Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand."
I think this issue is one of personal conscience. We cannot make our own conviction a demand for others to follow. Give grace in non-fundamental issues and pray for wisdom when facing difficult situations.

@@nae1777 I prayed to the Lord about this. When I went to read my Bible after that, I was led to a place that confirmed, to me anyways, that we should not attend such an affair. I had initially a hard time recalling the verse but I believe the Holy Spirit brought to memory what it was -
Amos 3 vs 3 Shall two walk together except they be agreed?

  • @shawnalLovesJesus

The new testament - Rev 22 vs 17 And the spirit and the bride say: Come. And he that heareth, let him say - Come. And he that thirsteth, let him come. And he that will, let him take the water of life, freely.
There is a reason why God made marriage between a man and a woman. Which table does a person want to sit at?

I am not the judge of anyone, God is.
I learned a lot from Alistair Begg over the past 10 years, and I love him as a brother in Christ 🙏
I believe the Bible, word for word, and Biblical doctrine is important. The Bible's truth is the same as yesterday, today, and tomorrow, it doesn't change with the culture. Have a blessed day, Fred

The Lord condemned this and applies it to "any man" saved or unsaved!

Despite what others have stated on the internet, I listened closely to Alistair's comments - they were to an individual not a blanket statement. Romans chapter 5, and verse 20b reads, “But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” After questioning this person's relationship and if they knew about her stand, etc., grace won.

Hello, my name is John Velez. Please, allow me to give you my opinion as to the answer Alistair Begg gave to the grandmother which was about to lose her granddaughter! Begg used "The Prodigal Son and the Good Samaritan parables" to justify the answer he gave the grandmother: “Attend the Wedding and bring them a GIFT” Wow!!! that will show the granddaughter grandma's love for her-(WRONG). If grandma goes to the wedding she will be partaking, promoting, and accepting the perversity her grand-daughter is about to embark in. There is no love in that. If he would have used the parable of "The Richman and Lazarus" (LUKE 16:19-31) he would have given the grandmother a taste of what happens to those who do EVIL here on planet Earth. That would be loving and acceptable by God. They will be given the opportunity to repent, and turn from their wickedness.
But Begg’s dilemma is greater than that. Someday all of them including those who would attend the demonic ceremony, and Begg (if he doesn’t repent) will be facing the judgment seat of God. Will He say to them “well done good and faithful servants” (Mathew 25:23) or will he say“, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels (Mathew 25:41).
I hope he reconsiders the answer he gave to poor Grandma and repents. It would mean a lot to all of us who know better. He has lost credibility and trust. That is a lot to lose. By the way, I am not a Pharisee and Begg is not Jesus Christ. When he points his finger to those who disagree with his counsel there are three fingers on his hand pointing back at him.
See the following Scriptures pertaining to God’s standing on Sexual Perversity:
    Leviticus 18:22
    Romans 1:26-27
    Deuteronomy 22:5
    2 John 1:6-7
    1 Corinthians 13:6 Mark 1:15
    1 Corinthians 10:20-21
    1 Corinthians 6:11-12
    2 Thessalonians 2:11-12

Unfortunately people can begin to believe their own "press"..."a man ought not to think more highly of himself then he ought to think, but to think soberly as God has given him the gift "..."the best of men...are men at best"..if you're aware of Alistair Begg's self defense he was way off ... shockingly so ...one thing is that Christians need to compare everything to Biblical truth

I think ovarall you guys did great and struck an important balance between grace and truth. The only piece that kind of bothers me is using the phrasing that Begg's advice was "unwise". It makes it appear like something that is less than very serious. If this truly dilutes or undermines the Gospel than this can have eternally devastating consequences. So it's a big deal to give this advice, especially coming from a respected teacher over the public airwaves. Also, true love warns.
Again you guys hit on all these points well, I just dont think it should be left at "unwise council", but rather sinful and dangerous.

The problem with pastor Begg is that he provided the wrong counsel and he doesn't want to admit it nor repent and appologize to the world. He lost 1800 radio stations that were carrying his Sunday services world wide. He is not doing well with John MacArthur and many other Christian pastors in the country. What I wrote is in the Bible. I do sympathy with him, but he sounds to arrogant and proud and does not want to admit his mistake. He compares his critics as Pharesses. WRONG. Jesus ate with sinners, prostitutes, and tax collectors, but never went and partake in their perversities.
Once again I just wanted to point out that his counsel to the grandmother was inappropriate and non biblical. I never meant to insult him nor his biblical knowledge.

We are to hold marriage in high honor. Then why are so many Christians getting divorced. Jesus also said that if we look at a woman lustfully we have committed adultery. We often ignore our small transgressions but I believe Jesus is telling us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Thank Jesus for what he did on the cross because there is no other way I can enter heaven.

Please stop spreading this terrible topic! Pastor Begg is by far my favorite pastor on utube. He is genuine and humble! I understand completely why he said what he said. I’m 73 and have been a Christian for a very long time. I have a granddaughter who is gay and we have actually had a few very heated discussions on this topic. She is married to a woman according to the law of the land but not of course in the eyes of our God and Savior. However, I treat her with the same love I treat all my family because she is my blood. Like us all, she is a sinner. We are all sinners to one degree or another. Each of us is tempted in different ways. But you can’t argue a person out of homosexuality, you can only love them and pray Jesus will wash them clean and forgive their sins! Isn’t that what we all need. Even as Born Again Christians we sin everyday. Forgiveness and love is our hope! Loving the person yet hating the sin. Pastor Begg did Nothing Wrong!!

😢I must say I am deeply disappointed at your assessment of Allister Begg. As Christians, we are to show compassion toward those with whom we disagree and leave the door open for engagement that we may minister and pray for them. The only way to do this is by loving your enemies. Instead you are acting ignorant and “holier than thou” like the Pharisees who criticized Jesus for eating with the tax collectors. Shame on you! Allister Begg has made his position on marriage known unequivocally. Perhaps you should listen to him more often and learn from him.

I specifically affirmed my respect, love, and appreciation for Alistair over the years and although expressing disagreement over his counsel on this issue, believe him to be a compassionate, godly pastor. At what point did we suggest we were “holier than” anybody? Do you think disagreement implies thinking you’re better than someone?

Begg gave the wrong answer to the grandmother who was seeking help. Instead of using the prodigal son's parable, he should have given her the parable of the Richmsn and Lazarus. He would have given her truth to set her grandchild free from error. There is love in that and acceptable by God. He won't back off his advice and there is danger in that.
