In this video I visit "De Japanske Haver" (The Japanese Gardens) on Funen.
Created by dane Peter Dalsgaard on his own premises, "De Japanske Haver" opened for visitors in 2007. The place offers a unique opportunity to get a real, authentic slice of Japanese garden traditions - in Denmark. Peter studied garden design and garden history in Kyoto, and subsequently worked in a gardening business in Japan. This is the background for the creation of the gardens which you can visit today.
"De Japanske Haver" comprises six different styles of Japanese Gardens, all varied in planting and structure. There is the “Garden of Life “(also called the history garden), the “View Garden”, “The Walking Garden”, the “Meditation Garden”, “The Temple Garden” and the “Courtyard”.
The gardens are 5500 square mile in total, and is made up of more than 3000 plants and 800 tonnes of natural stone. With their variations in sounds, textures and colours, they provide an authentic and harmonious experience for the visitor, as I remember it from my own visit to Japan.
We end the visit with a Japanese meal also served on the premises in the garden's café. We went for Tonkatsu and Tori No Kara-age. I also had a Ramune soda which was delicious.
