Ferrari Theme Parks Are So Strange

- If I had a nickel for every Ferrari theme park, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right? You might recall that I just recently went to Legoland Florida and there, one of the interactive exhibits is LEGO Ferrari Build and Race. While not particularly large, it did remind me that there was a theme park, Ferrari Land in Spain. However on researching it, I discovered Ferrari World on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, which led me down the rabbit hole of Ferrari theme parks. So, let's take a look at some of the most uniquely branded parks, because their theme is definitely different and more intriguing than anything you'll find at Disney or Universal.

Here’s quick list of corrections of factual mistakes I made in the video:
- DrPepperone made the point that F1 is hosted in both Abu Dhabi and Catalunya, so Ferrari theme parks placed where they are makes a lot of sense.
- benjaminrosa1418 corrected me, in that PortAventura is not located in Barcelona, but rather its neighboring city of Tarragona
Yeah, Ferrari World in Abu Daubi is like right next to the Abu Daubi racetrack, and it may have influenced the design of that track.
You forgot the biggest mistake you made constantly in the video. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are two very different cities in the UAE. You were using them interchangeably, which is the equivalent of swapping out New York and Los Angeles on the fly
@@SaturnTubes No, I didn't? I definitely made the distinction between the two, and how the parks in Dubai aren't great
@@PoseidonEntertainment you definitely keep saying Dubai and not the other parks in Abu Dhabi, then at the end you say “unlike the other parks in Dubai”
It could be your line delivery, but it really comes off as you either mixing up the cities or using them interchangeably
Regarding PortAventura, it's not even in Tarragona, but on the outskirts of Salou.
I believe the reason why 1910s era planes are prominent in the parks is that it is a tribute to the origins of the horse from Ferrari’s emblem. It originally belongs to Italian WW1 ace, Count Francesco Baracca, whom Enzo Ferrari had the opportunity to meet after winning a circuit race. He suggested to Enzo that he should add the prancing horse to his cars for good luck. And that is how the emblem came to be.
That's informative. I tried looking into it a bit, but I didn't want to go down a rabbit hole of Ferrari history, at least not in the interest of getting the video out. I'll look more into it when I have the time though
Exactly
@@PoseidonEntertainment rabbit hole? No need. You could have done some basic research (watching coasterbot's video about flying aces) and it would have told you that this ride is themed to the origins of the ferrari emblem, and you are part of the squadron of aircraft that sported the prancing horse emblem in WWI. I can confirm this is true as I have been on the ride and have experienced it's extremely well themed queueline.
@@PoseidonEntertainmentThat's probably something you should do for video topics like this my man
@@PoseidonEntertainmentYeah, I know for a fact you just looked at videos of the place and did not go to them in real-life as they are so far away and expensive to pull that off.
Your description of how Abu Dhabi's theme parks are designed by people who don't really know what they're doing but have a ton of money to throw at the problem is actually pretty much a good summary of the UAE's recent developments in general. It's all flash, no substance.
I've been saying that for so long! The worlds tallest building that they hype up so much isn't even connected to any sort of sewage system... they have a long line of sewage trucks that come and pick up the sewage every single day... The man made islands that they made have to always be getting sand filled back in because they did them wrong and they start eroding instantly... They just poorly make as much as they possibly can to sound like they're further advanced lmao
They're trying to build Vegas in a theocratic dictatorship, it's a doomed project from the start.
I think the biggest thing that you didn't mention is that both Abu Dhabi and Catalunya (Portaventura's region) host Formula 1's Grand Prix races, as an extra justification why those parks are there.
I know nothing about F1, but how did I miss that? It makes a lot more sense now lol
You can actually see Ferrari land at some points during the Abu Dhabi f1 race so that one makes a lot of so nce
@@PoseidonEntertainment Ferrari world Abu Dhabi is located at the track.
Specifically Yas Marina for Abu Dhabi GP, just south of ferrari world, it original layout was something to be desired though
Its not joined with Yas Marina but its a very short walk away@@wyldcardsam
The next video series i want from Poseidon Entertainment is how you would build your own theme park from scratch. Almost like those city planner games. Explain how your version of main street would be, how many parks would make sense for the theming. A collab with a different theme park channel each video to get different perspectives on the history of parks, past attractions, etc.
I would love this!
Something homegrown in the vein of Efteling would be kind of neat, where most things are "from scratch" as it were and have to stand on their own without being able to ride on the IP coattails. It would be interesting seeing what sort of themes, concepts, and ride types he'd populate it with. (That would mean commissioning a lot of concept art, though...)
@@KronoGarrett I can see there being two videos. One for a non-IP park (his own Efteling). And one for an IP-driven park (his own Islands of Adventure). The latter would be interesting for the concept of “What do you choose
when every major IP’s been picked already?”
Do it in a free build Roller Coaster Tycoon scenario
Bonus points if the plan is realistic, such as being in a realistic location.
I went once, and the customer service was not great. Every time I asked a question all I got was an "Understood. We are checking." or was informed that that I "will not have the drink". It was, frankly, a confusing experience.
Went where?
they’re making a reference to the ferrari f1 team radio messages 😭
@@willshimmons6516 I kind of expected Lego Land to have a "why am I so unlucky?" Charles LeClerc minifig.
I low key wish Ferrari theme parks had a petting zoo with retired race horses or something. I know it’s supposed to be fancy but the horse logo is iconic.
Why do you think that would be the best life for them?
A circus tent would make more sense. It would explain where they get their clowns for the F1 strategy team.
You had me hooked at Doofenschmirtz

I'm from Barcelona and I've been to Port Aventura, but I have no desire to visit the Ferrari park. However, there are a lot of Ferrari and F1 enthusiasts here, so i guess it has its audience.
It's mainly people that go to PortAventura and pay 15 extra euros to ride the tallest and fastest ride in Europe, and people that book the resort hotels pack which includes an afternoon entrance to Ferrari
The Ferrari park in Dubai was made for coaster nuts. Ask any adrenaline junkie what their dream trip is and most will say it's this park. The speed and unique coaster themeing really pulls people in.
Like you said, the UAE is trying to become the ultimate tourist destination despite the fact there's zero tourism outside of millionaires and billionaires on business trips.
It's been very fascinating seeing the UAE develop over the past 24 years, very curious to see what they'll look like in 20 more.
Zero tourism outside millionaires? UAE was getting close to 17 million tourists per annum before covid hit. Don't know about now.
You don't feel like that because most of the tourists are from the Mideast, India and Russia.
I like how you tried to be objective on these parks despite the weird theming.
my cars and my theme park addiction is all coming together now wow
Both the biplane family ride and Flying Aces are themed after the origin of the Ferrari logo. The horse of the logo was painted on the plane of a famous Italian WWI ace (hence the biplane themes). While the pilot was shot down during the war, Enzo Ferrari met his parents in the years after the war. They suggested him to brand his vehicles with the black horse for good luck.
My guess is licensing fees are why Ferrari land is a separate ticket from PortAdventura.
If it was another land to the existing park, Ferrari would likely want a cut of ticket revenue, maybe even food and merch.
With Ferrari Land being a separate ticket, they can isolate those fees to just the Ferrari Land. So PortAdventura gets the draw of a Ferrari park for the resort, but isn't losing any existing profits to pay for it. The park essentially paying for itself.
Maybe? That's unusual in the business if so, but I don't think it's likely either.
I just find it interesting and hilarious that despite its Italian lineage and origins that there is no Ferrari theme park in Italy itself. It's kind of like up until I guess the next couple of years will resolve the hilarity that there is a Harry Potter land in every part of the world except for the United Kingdom where the book series takes place in originates from.
It doesn't seem likely that the UK Universal park will have Harry Potter, or at least not anything already built in other parks.
eh... I think this would have the same problem as California Adventure. Why go to the theme park when the real thing is right there? If you're in Italy, you can go to the actual factory where they actually make Ferraris, the actual town where Enzo was actually from, or the actual track where F1 actually races. Why would you go to the fake version?
I think it’s because Italians are already predisposed to Ferrari as a brand, having it in a place like the UAE makes sense to me as people there already have a liking for supercars, racing culture AND a good amount of population with the necessary income to buy a Ferrari.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a visit to a theme park like this swayed some people into buying a Ferrari or at least being fans of Ferrari as a brand and racing team.
we do have a harry potter park, it's called the warner bros studio tour. i went there a couple of times as a kid before jk rowling publically came out as a piece of shit.
@@tiramikaThat's not a theme park lol, that's a single attraction. There's no Harry Potter theme park in the UK and that's arguably a GOOD IDEA! See California Adventure for how stupid it is to theme a theme park to the local environment. 🤷 People want what they can't have/experience, not what they experience on the daily just with some changes.
Genuinely, having been to Ferrari Land, my first thought upon entering was "Wow, it's empty!"
There was a 2 hour queue for Red Force, which is to be expected for it being the only big ride in the entire park.
Every other ride had basically no queue and even the food court was just empty, which was actually quite nice because you could just sit wherever you wanted.
The "kid" coaster was actually surprisingly forceful, if you weren't careful it'd probably actually give you whiplash.
I'm just glad we got a day free for staying at a Port Aventura hotel because even for Red Force, I don't think price of entry was really worth it.
Top Thrill Dragster does not exist anymore in its original form. After an accident this Intamin coaster it was redesigned and reimagined by Zamperla and just opened as Top Thrill 2. Coincidentally with more of a Formula 1 inspired theme.
Yes but Top thrill 2 was already shut back down indefinitely
No botched pit stops or bad strategy calls on the f1 rides? Immersion ruined
So true 🤣😭

Perfect timing for this video with Coaster Studios’ right now releasing their video series visiting the middle eastern theme parks.
Putting Doofy boy on the thumbnail was a nice touch.
No idea who that is.
Turbo Twist is the fastest "tea cup" ride I've been on. Benno is so adorable. It's better in person than it records. Formula Rossa is pure fun speed. Flying Aces is a great coaster and the best coaster in the park.
I think Benno was the thing I was most impressed with. I think it puts almost all other interactive dark rides to shame
@@PoseidonEntertainment the screens and the practical effects/sets blend better in person than they do on video.

Something I find particularly funny about Ferrari Land is that it's themed much like a Portaventura region, almost being an extra one based on a real life location, in this case Italy... But Portaventura already has a general "mediterranean" region, being based around the likes of Catalunya, southern France, Greece, and of course Italy. In fact, it's THE ENTRANCE AREA. You cannot possibly avoid it
Oh hey I visited Ferrari Land back in 2019, I didn't think I'd see you talk about it. It's a pretty cool park for what it is, even if it does feel like an elaborate advertisement. The Red Force is a really kickass ride, though being from the UK, most of our rollercoasters don't really compare to what you guys have in the US lmao
I live around 50 km away from Port Aventura (even I was born the same year it opened) but first of all the resort is located in Tarragona instead of Barcelona (which is around 100 km away)
Since 2009-2010 the resort has been owned by InvestIndustrial,a Italian company, and in 2017 they invested 100 million euros to build Ferrari Land, however the resort is on sale/changing owners right now and it is said that Ferrari land will somehow be merged to Mediterranea area of Port Aventura and some things may change, but it is unknown the extension of the Ferrari license,as Ferrari land was announced 2015-16ish
That's interesting information. It does seem like a natural way to extend that land.
@@PoseidonEntertainment it is also rumored a shopping area or something similar to Disney Springs or CityWalk near the main entrance to the resort (from that blue bridge that has the resort's name),as it was rumored to be built around 2008-09,but with the economic crisis at that time it was likely cancelled? Around that time there were plans for the water park expansion but were shelved and slightly modified until 2013 (if you need more info about this I recommend you the "pafans" or "pa-community" websites, they are in Spanish but both communities are open to non-Spanish speakers)
A little note. Parto Aventura wasn't bulit in barcelona. Was built in Tarragona, a neighbour city of Barcelona.
Ah whoops, I always make dumb mistakes lol
Yeah it is about a 1 hour drive away. And while tour buses exist that can take you between the city and the resort, its not exactly IN Barcelona itself.

It'd be nice if the Italy shops/resto section had partnered with other iconic Italian brands to be less generic.
My guess about the planes is just me wondering if Ferrari engines or the founder were involved in airplanes, like other legacy Euro motor companies?
EDIT: lol PE mentions that in the next section with the coasters.
Ferrari Land in Spain tbf is a pretty nice 2nd gate for Port Aventura to make the person stay all day/for two days. I finished it in a few hours, but that did include many rides on Red Force as it is so dang fun.
It showed great potential for what Port Aventura could be in the future, but I am curious if will ever get *any* expansion.
And if you do it at the end of the day it can be pretty empty… got onto red force last week with a 2 minute wait
17:30 tediously long and unexciting would be an accurate simulation of some F1 races though...
I'm not an F1 fan, but I think this might not track with well them
I will some day go, but wish there were also real cars or simulators with the huge engines so you can hop in, press the pedal and have your eardrums blasted by V10s or V12s
Just a note on the "Thrill Towers" at Ferrari Land (PortAventura), during the non-peak season, they tend to only use 1 of the towers, and have that tower run both Drop and Launch functions each cycle.
SFX coasters honestly sound amazing and a huge step forward in storytelling for coasters, though i can only imagine how much of a nightmare upkeep is on them. They might be a lost cause because of that, but I'd love to see what some of the creatives in the industry would use such a concept.
I think using companies like Ferrari and Ford for a theme park could work very well if done right. Using Star Trek would work if done right. If you use Ferrari for a theme park as education as well as fun. You can have a driving school, simulators, rollercoasters, a ride like Test Track, go carts that are ferrari f1 themed, etc. You just have to have a forward thinking person in charge of it all.
Actually, a Ferrari themed slot car system like Test Track would be cool. I wouldn't want it in Disney, but it's obviously a perfect marriage of those two things.
@@PoseidonEntertainment I would love that outside of disney. Universal should do a deal with Ferrari and F1
@@PoseidonEntertainment With the TV deal and popularity of F1 right now, I think not doing a deal with F1 is a massive mistake. The advertising alone would be worth it. And to use Ferrari and F1 to bring fans into universal and create new product for universal would benefit everyone. Not to mention the rivalry between Ferrari and Ford since Ford made a deal with red bull racing could create a great opportunity
The Abu dahbi Park kind of makes sense considering its right next to the yas marina circuit which is used by formula 1. I guess the one in spain also kind of makes sense because of the amount of Spanish drivers that have raced for ferrari, namely fernando alonso and Carlos sainz
We in Italy have a theme park called Mirabilandia which is pretty much the most important one in here and there is a whole section of the park dedicated to Ferrari Themed Rides, idk how you failed to mention that....
I've been to ferrari world throughout the initial preview event my family got, up to the renovation for the third rollercoaster in 2016.
I loved taking the rollercoasters, no matter which ones were available, as I remember my first ride on Formula Rosa being in the night and with an approaching storm.

That was really fun and informative to watch. Awesome video!
I've been to Ferrari Land at PortAventura, it's kinda cool, Red Force was fun but the fact it was a separate admission to the main PortAventura Park was kinda annoying.
Also I did Legoland's Ferrari Build & Race at the Windsor Legoland, it was fun, I put one of the Lego Elves characters on a car and put it in the scanner so it was funny to see her just zoom around the track
I am a little underwhelmed with red force it looks fun but I was expecting something more unique
VW has a sort of themepark in it's HQ in Wolfsburg (the city the Nazis buildfor VW) called Autostadt (car city). It's basically a giant ad space that has a bunch of smaller attractions like an expo, usually about vw cars and automation. You can also buy cars there.
There is nothing tackier than Ferrari branded stuff, they make cars but make more money off other items
I did see some dispute over whether it was smart for Ferrari to start branding other things, which partially inspired the video
I'd really like to see you cover the Warner Bros World park in the UAE. Six Flags doesn't really leverage that IP in a meaningful way so I wonder how it compares.
I noticed your corrections. Both cities host rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship. So yeah they'll get a lot of tourism building up to the weekend and shortly after.
Ferrari World is actually on the same site as Abu Dhabi Yas Maria circuit and opened the first year the circuit featured as a Grand Prix.
Furthermore Ferrari is widely considered the most popular brand in motorsports.
The brand has a lot of appeal anyway.

I can tell most people dont pay for Ferrari Land in Portaventura, since if you stay in a hotel they give you a ticket to enter the park 1 day for free.
Also another good thing of the park is the "Ristorante Cavallino" with a good theming and food.
The park doesnt even open the full day, only from 16:00 to 22:00.
The hours do seem convenient, especially since PortAventura closes earlier, right?
@@PoseidonEntertainment PortAventura closes between 18:00 and 22:30 depending on whether it is high or low season.
Honestly, the Ferrari parks ought to be far more elegantly themed. They have sort of a Red Mall of America (World) or business district (Land) look.
They ought to play off the fact that this is a luxury brand. I can understand the spy tie in because there is something fairly Monte Carlo and James Bond about Ferrari. But this brand is meant to make rich people feel simultaneously badass and refined. The aesthetic would work better if the parks took a tip from the Bellagio or The Venetian in Las Vegas. And then you could visit those parks and pretend you're a rich person the way people do in Vegas.
The aesthetic of Ferrari World and Ferrari Land just don't make sense.
Marenello Grand Race has the cars break down on purpose randomly, to simulate the actual experience of owning a Ferrari! 😂
Just got recommended this video which lead me to subscribing. I'd be interested if you looked at my home city of Perth, Australia, as we've had a couple of interesting parks that either collapsed or never got off the ground. The collapsed one was basically Perth's attempt to replicate the success of Seaworld, called Atlantis Marine Park and the pie in the sky one was a planned safari style open range zoo announced by a now former Premier.
I really know nothing about Australian parks, but I'm a bit afraid to cover them because ReviewTyme will probably point out how wrong I am about everything lol
No matter how many coasters Ferrari World has, I will never visit the UAE
Good for you?
Why
I was pleasantly surprised by Ferrari land at portaventura to be honest, the theming is quite nice and a nice contrast to the main park-which is wildly superior and one of the best parks in the world in all fairness. There’s nothing like red force in Europe, and the flying theatre was amazing, although I admit it’s the only one I’ve done. The simulator’s not worth bothering with though. I think it’s definitely worth viewing it as an upcharge land, rather than a second gate, as you usually get it bundled with the main entrance, and it’s really easy to park hop between the two parks.
Even for individual pricing, it seems reasonable. I imagine that the flying theater is acceptable, but I would assume fails to live up to both versions of Soarin' or Flight of Passage. It's the right fit for the right park
10/10 thumbnail for this video (make it a standard-as in find appropriate fitting memes)
The weirdest part is how none of the parks actually allow you to experience driving in ferarri.
I am surprised no one has attempted to just make a theme park based on books not owned by a studio it be a gamble but maybe worth it
That Doofenshmirtz meme is sooooooo overused nowadays, and I say this as someone who loves the show 😂
This video was a hard sell and I think it worked as a hook though
@@PoseidonEntertainment yeah of course I agree
I’ve had the luck to go to both, they’re very weird but Ferrari world in Abu Dhabi is the only real good park. Formula rossa was closed but even without that ride the park was great, flying aces and mission Ferrari were very well done with hint of a theme of Ferrari.
I think it's difficult to do an indoor theme park well, but Ferrari World seems to have really nailed it
I'm a fan of rides, racing and Ferrari in general, so it's kind of a slam dunk for me.
This was interesting, I'd definitely give Red Force a go but not much else interests me there.
A theme park that could be interesting for a video is Park Asterix in France. It was fun the last times I've been but it's been a good while.
For a brand so uptight about preserving their image going as far as suing owners for modifying their cars, I'm surprised they're so nonchalant about cheapening their image with these barely themed cheap roadside carnival rides
That's kind of where I was coming from lol. You care about the car brand but then will slap it onto PortAventura?
Id like to offer a mew classification: brand parks, a 3rd to the now trio of parks, amusment, theme, and brand, ferrari, lego, hollywood studios
Ferrari is probably going to send you a cease and desist for making this video 😂
My amusement park two nickel claim to fame - I have ridden every theme park ride starring Brendan Fraser
I can think of USF's Mummy, but what else is there?
You're right that Ferrari is protective of its brand, but only to the point that they want to make sure THEY'RE the ones making money. Ferrari is famously a racing operation that makes cars and sells merch to finance that operation. Enzo Ferrari was well known for viewing his road cars' buyers with contempt but realizing they were a necessary evil if he was going to be able to afford to go racing. The Ferrari of today follows that tradition by slapping their branding on every product known to man... Shoes, gloves, belts, chess sets, laptops, ballet flats, bicycles, floor standing tower speakers, rollerblades, cameras, silverware, hair dryers, and a Ferrari branded version of Kaspersky Internet Security software. "Brand dilution" isn't really a thing Ferrari care about.
Abu Dabi must pour a lot of money into these theme parks; Sea World there looks incredibly impressive and Ferrari World looks way better than it has any right to be. I don't know what the RoI is but the result is impressive while it lasts.
Yeah, that SeaWorld looks crazy. I've heard their ride operations are ridiculously slow, but as a themed aquarium, it looks fantastic.
As a Portaventura local I have to say that the only way to go to ferrariland it's by staying in the hotel and getting it in the pack, because its not worth just going there
And the dark rides are just awfull, the race simulator its just bad and the flying simulator it's one of the worst i've tried
I’ve been to Ferrari world in Abu Dhabi, can say that the flying theater ride is a bad Soarin’ clone. Also flying aces has one of my favorite queues of any roller coaster, especially if you are a history buff.

Funny how you mentioned the Hard Rock theme park because they are trying to make a Hard Rock resort and casino near Port Aventura. In the concept art the hotel has a guitar shape, it looks hideous.

I was in the UAE both before and just after, the financial crash of 08. I was shocked (but not really) after the crash, it was literally an oppressive police/military state. It was completely unrecognizable from my trip the year prior. Ive not gone back since. Great video as always!
I have some reservations about going, but at this point in time, it does seem safe for tourism
Did you actually go here? I was there in 2019. The coasters here are pretty awesome. Sitting front row on Rossa was intence, I know now why they make you wear googles. You should definitely do a deep dive on the WB theme park across the street. It was pretty amazing the amount of detail and tech for an indoor theme park.
I’ve been to both Ferrari Parks and the one in Abu Dhabi is actually really good. It’s home to my no.1 coaster, Flying Aces. Would recommend going
huh what a funny coincidence that i went to both of these places when i was young honestly though the only reason i remember Ferrari World more because i went there during the launch of the first iphone se and port adventura because of a school trip didn't know they made a Ferrari extension neat
Also Red force was definitely a re-branded ride because I remember seeing it with no branding and it was white
It’s weird how normal it apparently is for dad to give a 10-12 year old boy a Ferrari.
If I was Ferrari, I would shut down that race car ride on rails. Seeing how slow that thing moves is causing irreparable damage to the brand.
FerrariLand is probably my least favorite park I've ever visited, although a lot of that is due to being next door to the excellent (albeit poorly operated) PortAventura. Apart from Red Force and some randomly nicely themed areas, there's nothing of note. It easily has the worst drop towers I've ever done, which especially suck when next door there is Hurakan Condor, one of the very best towers. And somehow it has the absolute worst Autopia style driving ride (Maranello Grand Race), which is insane given the theme of the park. And Racing Legends is def the worst simulator I've done. Barely moves as you mentioned.
If you’re going to be covering Middle Eastern parks, you should probably keep you eye on that Dragon Ball park they’re planning to build.
All those yellow planes refer to the plane pilot that inspired the logo of Ferrari which had the horse on it
You mentioned If You Had Wings at Magic Kingdom. You mean Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin? Cause that’s the current ride in that particular spot where the in place of If You Had Wings.
I was in PortAventura few weeks ago red force is a different kind of beast as doesn’t spiral down it’s just the drop so pick up a lot more speed but it is just a half day park compared to PortAventura
Ferrari theme parks are a funny novelty. I'm sad I can't visit them because I'm not allowed in the UAE anymore, and am in the process of getting banned from Italy too for my crimes against Pizza
For Speed of Magic, Canobie Coaster did mention in his review of Ferrari World that its movement is well executed
Also Coaster Studios mentioned in his vlog of Ferrari World that it’s flying theater is one of the worst ones he went on
I feel so silly until your video I always thought the Ferrari Land ride in Spain that looks like top thrill dragster was in Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
Could you perhaps suggest & review a bit more Universal Studios Orlando related content regarding it's future, HHN and some things that could be delivered to help with the park itself and it's current state? Thanks.
