I live in California, $100,000 a year is just enough to pay for a mortgage in the more undesirable suburbs of either LA, SD, or the Bay Area. You're barely making ends meet and living paycheck to paycheck with that amount.

      I actually disagree
Even if you pay $2000 on rent and $1000 on student loans
You have 3k left to live off
      Say you have the following
      $600 car not
      $500 groceries
      $150 car insurance
      $250 health
      $500 household bills
You still have $1000 left over
Even if you have a credit card $500/month you still have $500 fun /savings left over …. And income goes up if you pay off the credit card , negotiate for a lower payment student loan or pay them off, pay off the car or don’t get such an expensive car, and budget the groceries….
      You still live good

I make this amount and can vouch that it is not a lot of money as a single parent with 4 older kids. Spending $60 a day would leave me broke in retirement!! I paid 3% down on my house and refinanced once I had 20% equity. Many people would miss opportunities if they wait to save 90k in 6 years! Now my equity is equal to my remaining balance and I've owned the house for 6 years.

Brian I live on $10,464 a year, $872 a month. I'm 100% disabled and over a half century year old. Some of those taxes would not apply to me however, my medical and rent would go up dramatically! After adding everything up, I would be able to save at least $3k a month. After 3 - 4 years of saving $3k a month I would get a $100k home loan, buy a house in the range of $50 - $70 use the loan to fix and make home functional; being a DIY and friends that are as well thinking to fix the home up would be about $50k. The $50k left over I would give back to the bank in payments (raise credit score) and pay off home in full. With the rest of my savings I would make that one and only over the top purchase, my DREAM Toyota Tundra 😍Pay cash, no car payments! Ok I'm depressed now!
