    I may not know much about this game, but momentum preservation and close quarters combat with TAS will never not be absolutely mesmerizing to watch.

    Great work!🎉 The movement is so crazy, especially with the moon jump tech!🤯

    • @jarlyk
      @jarlyk  Год назад +6

      The amount of momentum you can store in this game is absurd. You can also finely tune your trajectory, as holding the down button will make you fall slightly faster, so a lot of the segments smash-dashing through narrow tunnels involve a bunch of little adjustments, plus using things like double jumps into down atk dodge cancels to get quick bursts of vertical adjustment.

    I have GOT to get this game. Not only is it a metroidvania (I love the genre already), but it also has cosmic horror elements (which are totally my jam).

    I have finished this game 4 times, gotten every ending, done a fuckton of sequence breaks, and yet I am amazed by everything here. The movement was so fast I checked whether I had the play speed of the video at 2x multiple times. On the damage I cannot comment given I play on the hardest difficulty, but the sheer ability to hold onto enemies displayed here is a work of art.
    I totally recommend this game. Just get it. Now if you will excuse me, I have some movement tech to practice.

    • @jarlyk
      @jarlyk  Год назад +2

      If you're curious, the core damage cycle that helps stick to enemies here is grapple, up-air, double-jump to interrupt, side-air, air smash (interrupts the air attack animation), then cycle back around to grapple again to interrupt the end of the smash animation after it hits. Air smash is where the bulk of the damage comes from. The up-air resets the double jump, so you can juggle like this indefinitely. Granted, in practice, this is really hard to do with human inputs, especially since a few frames of difference in how long you hold the grapple can make a huge difference on where you end up. You can mix in dashes here and there to reset if you overshoot horizontally.

    A little explanation for the Crystal rooms that you ran through and mentioned at around 6:00
    They are your "lore" rooms. Hitting the black swirlies makes your narrator talk about some little tidbits.

    Wow... I love this game! It took me like 8 hours to beat it and the TAS just trounced through Rivalry like nothing.
    For those who wants to play it casually, I highly recommend the Corrupt path to take full advantage of the aerial movements. Once you get used to it, it's actually very fun to zip around the places. Of course, not as crazy as this TAS.

    • @jarlyk
      @jarlyk  Год назад +4

      Yeah, the corrupted abilities are super fun. The dash is probably my favorite, thought I'm also a fan of the wall cling. The corrupted dash actually used to be part of the speedrun route, since you can use the vertical blinks for skips, but moonjump obsoleted that.

    Seeing both the fluid/floaty movement and quick snappy combat, atop how the currency is sucked toward the PC, I now want a no geo gathering swarm tas of this.

    • @jarlyk
      @jarlyk  Год назад +3

      I actually thought about this. The Sundered magnet algorithm is way more aggressive than the HK geo gathering, unfortunately. The algorithm in HK is pretty simple and the resulting dynamics of its math has a semi-stable equilibrium that tend to result in orbital trajectories. 0 shards spent could still be an interesting run (since no passive upgrades), but avoiding all shards entirely might be impossible.

    Really cool to see some other games then Hollow Knight, the movement does look very cool in this one. One game I would love to see being tased is Rayman Legends, the speedruns have a lot of crazy and deep movement techs, but Im not sure how easy it is to manipulate the rng. Actually on second thought not sure if there is rng in the game, there are enemys but I think they allways react the same, could be wrong tho.

    I know nothing about this game but this was still highly enjoyable to watch. GGs on explaining the TAS and the game so well!
    Seeing a Grime TAS would be amazing. The game has so much potential to optimise movement and bossfights likewise and amazing music.
    Looking forward to whatever you decide to do next!

    • @jarlyk
      @jarlyk  Год назад +1

      I'd love to do a Grime TAS, though not sure if it's possible. It's a Unity game, but it doesn't have a native Linux build, so would need to port the game files over to a Linux runner. I should try it, though, as I do agree it would make for an interesting TAS. The game has a ton of glitched tech, as well, though it's more glitching through geometry than momentum storage shenanigans.

    I love this game! The crystal "black hole" rooms are lore rooms. And there are like... three or four endings, depending on what you did ability wise. (If you have Valk abilities, or full Corrupted abilities, etc!) The Corrupted one is fun, though certainly slower in all senses. As you need to grind for all the currency manually as you need to use all the Elder Shards or whatever. And you need to hunt down all the hidden/secret Elder Shards.

    @globglogabgalabyeast6611 11 месяцев назад

    Woah, I thought I was able to find a lot of cool movement tech and skips in my casual playthroughs, but the speed and fluidity you achieve here is insane! I love how the abilities in Sundered are so flexible as both movement and attacks
    Do you think a TAS of Sundered on higher difficulties would look fairly similar, or would the routing change quite a bit to get more upgrades/perks/abilities?
    I saw you mention a possibility of doing some co-op TAS of this, and that sounds amazing! Your recent Alice & Bob HK run was very entertaining, and one of my favorite TAS series (New Super Mario Bros Wii by Adeal’s TASes) is co-op. For Sundered co-op, are different players able to interact with each other, or would it more be each player doing their own thing?

    • @jarlyk
      @jarlyk  11 месяцев назад +1

      I suspect higher difficulty would be pretty similar, though it depends on how much longer the required fights are. Ultimately it comes down to movement time versus time saved on fights. If the end-game fights are slow enough, it might be worth to burn some shards like the human route does. If I did a higher difficulty TAS, I'd probably go for Embrace ending as well, as that involves getting the ability upgrades, which are super fun to play with.
      Regarding multiplayer, the Sundered co-op is local multiplayer, so both (or up to four) players would actually be in the same TAS, sending inputs from two controllers simultaneously. The way it works is that one player is the primary and would be doing the bulk of the motion, but secondary players can assist with combat or detour to grab shards along the way. The secondary players can press a button to warp to the primary, so what it would look like is one player zooming through, with the other player(s) branching off to grab things that are nearby to the movement path. Combat would be the most interesting part, with multiple players splitting up the enemies to try to minimize time spent in movement without dealing dmg.
      I'd like to work on this, but I'd need to do some work to improve TASing stability for this game, as currently it desyncs quite frequently. It's also unfortunate that it gets a tiny fraction of the audience compared to the Hollow Knight TASes, as I think the movement and combat in this game is extremely cool, but, alas, HK is just a way more popular game.

    How optimized would you say this is? You said you picked up one unnecessary fragment, but do you think sub 30 is possible?

    • @jarlyk
      @jarlyk  Год назад +7

      I think sub-30 is definitely possible. That and there's a lot of opportunity for more advanced rng manip, both to search for better layout seeds and to get things like temporary shrine buffs for boss fights. I think a 0 shard run _might_ be possible too, though dodging those shards is a lot harder than in HK, as the algorithm it uses for bringing them back to you has some damping that makes it much more likely to actually hit you.
