      @Nykandros 6 месяцев назад +2

      Both "complex" and "pure evil" villains are boring lol. Neither is realistic or particularly intriguing. A villain likely isn't going to be some traumatized crybaby, but he likely isn't going to be some murderous class clown either. Villainy is motivated by self-interest mainly, the desire to achieve a given goal or acquire something (usually power). Lex Luthor, Darkseid & Bane are all representatives of the *TRUE* villain archetype; that of The Conqueror.

    • @pexavex7295

      @@NykandrosI do agree to an extent, however people like that do in fact exist in real life, and while that’s debatable, realism shouldn’t apply to every medium of story telling, and while realistic villains can be entertaining, interesting stories can be constructed with villains that make you sympathies with them. In superhero media (mainly Batman)villains with tragic backstory’s backstories make you sympathize with them, and remind us of what the hero is fighting for, and gives the hero a chance to offer what heroes are really about, a helping hand. Villains that are empathetic also make help us keep our empathy, and we need empathy. It makes sure that empathy is still somewhat prioritized. That’s all I have to say, but I’d like to hear more about your view of villains and antagonists.

    • @Nykandros
      @Nykandros 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@pexavex7295 I very much agree that realism shouldn't apply to every medium of storytelling, and that you don't need a "realistic" villain to be a good story. Nonetheless, The Conqueror archetype intrigues me the most. Sympathetic villains fall into the pitfall of victimization & woe-is-me personalities far too often. They also tend to lack conviction, these villains are traumatized & thus lean towards the side of mental vulnerability. You just don't get that same sense of an unstoppable force with a singular drive going after his goal like you do with a conventional villain; IE. Bane in Knightfall, Luthor in Forever Evil etc.
      The conventional, power-hungry villain on the other hand is a force to be reckoned with. Competent, unflinching & ruthless. Can't be negotiated with unless by means of bringing him closer to the object of his desire. Grandiose, megalomaniacal & with the skills to back it up. These villains would scoff at the trauma which defines sympathetic villains.
      To me, the conventional villain archetype is *THE* best archetype in all of comics tbh.

    The Joker is a nihilistic character that is his archetype and he’s in the 80’s his nihilistic psychopathic/sociopathic tendencies were introduced, he didn’t always go on about his philosophy on nihlism, heck for most of the Dark Knight he doesn’t go into his beliefs, he just keeps tricking or killing people. Jack Nicholson’s Joker like Heath Ledger’s Joker is just a strong reflection of the character in comics. Joker’s character when your break him down is a Nihilistic Hedonist which means nothing matters so I’ll do whatever I want. Joker talks about it in the dark knight once or twice like he does in The Killing Joke but Jack Nicholson’s Joker just lives that philosophy like The Joker has in some other comics. The biggest difference between the two is that Heath’s Joker isn’t really afraid of death, or Batman compared Jack’s Joker who does show some fear in certain instances. When Joker fell at the end of The Dark Knight he laughs like a maniac embracing his fate as Batman catches him, when Joker falls off roof in Batman (1989) he screams in terror until he dies. Now in comics Sometimes The Joker doesn’t fear death, other times he does but in terms of which is more accurate I’d say Heath’s Joker takes the cake. Also Joker’s nihlism isn’t really “political” it’s more philosophical & psychological. Also Joker’s whole point when it came to his philosophy was to prove to Gotham but more importantly to prove to Batman that everything is meaningless, and that madness is the cure. So rules, structure, consistency, none of it matters, where all just animals who fight for dominance over what we want. Joker has a child’s mindset that rejects responsibility.
    Carnage:”You get The Joke?”
    Joker:”What Joke?”
    Carnage:”That life is utterly meaningless , totally absurd, and madness is the only insane response.”
    Joker:”Oh that joke!”
    Carnage:”Joker my friend we belong together.”
    This was from The Spider-Man Batman crossover back in September 1995. This Nihilistic, Hedonistic, Absurdism, was always true to the character.

    Judge Holden from Blood Meridian is used as a prime example in literature classes for these characters. His crimes and actions are so vile i cant list them on here without getting nuked by youtube. But his character is also complex due to his reasoning and almost supernatural presence. The guy LOVES committing terror, and acts like its a genuine biological function like breathing. He has no redeemable qualities whatsoever, not comedic moments like Jack Horner or Joker. Hes a villain you continue reading about because hes so vile it keeps the reader engaged to see what he'll do next. And worst part? He gets away with all his crimes simply because he says he cant be convicted or killed. He cant be beaten. And his last scene he dances in a crowd and gathers everyone around, enjoying life. With the reader knowing he'll never see the inside of a cell

      Exactly. People think every villain needs to be Magneto. I like Magneto but I’ve always said people like the idea of Magneto more than the actual execution of Magneto. There’s a lot of Iconic X-Men storylines. Phoenix/Dark Phoenix, Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, Days of Future Past, X-Cutioners, Song, Inferno, Age of Apocalypse, The Phalanx Covenant, Fatal Attractions, Onslaught, and House of M. Notice how out of all those storylines none of them feature Magneto as the main villain except for Fatal Attraction & House of M, and even House of M is debatable, as his kids were the main masterminds behind that event. Magneto is one of those villains Hollywood does a better job with than the comics itself does. Usually cause when they adapt these storylines they force Magneto in as the main villain. 😂

    People have a misconception of Pure Good or Pure Evil Villains:
    Villains or people to believe they are doing the right thing while viewing others as the "bad guy" without being redeemable or sympathetic. Pure evil doesn't mean evil for the sake of being evil; it can stem from distorted beliefs, self-serving motivations, or a skewed sense of morality. These individuals might genuinely believe they are on the side of righteousness, often justifying their actions through twisted logic or a skewed worldview. However, their lack of narcissism, empathy, willingness to harm others, and refusal to acknowledge their faults can make them unredeemable or unsympathetic, even if they see themselves as the hero in their own story.
    The concept of a "Pure Good" hero or person doesn't imply perfection or the absence of flaws. Even the most virtuous individuals can make mistakes, face challenges, and have moments of weakness. What defines a Pure Good character is their underlying moral compass, their dedication to doing what's right, and their willingness to learn from their mistakes and grow as a person. Flaws and imperfections are part of what makes characters and people relatable and realistic, adding depth to their journeys and allowing for character development.

      @Axson_Cinema we definitely know he was hiding his psychopathy with scenes like killing girlfriend when he definitely didn't have to or burning all of the plants to make sure he would be the last panther with no one to challenge his power. And he's definitely just a black red skull he has super technology and believes his race is superior and wants to take out or subjugate other with that technology. Nothing he did at any point showed it was for anyone but himself.

      It’s because Nolan took inspiration mostly from golden age comics for his version of joker. back then he wasn’t that funny yet and before we knew he had bleached skin some of the oldest joker stories had him where makeup. The way joker came on tv and announced he was going to kill people was very reminiscent how joker used to announce his targets on the radio when the police already couldn’t do anything to save them.
