At that point in my flying career I had been flying Hang gliders for well over 20 years with over a thousand logged flights. It was a no-wind, slight down-wind launch on a glider I was test flying. The Northwing Freedom FX is a single surface top-less glider with wing struts. This glider in particular felt heavy and has a narrower control frame with a bit different geometry then I was used to. The glider felt awkward to ground control and launch, that's why I went for the downtube mid run. This launch in no wind was perfect and with one arm on the base-tube I had all the pitch control in the world (and roll authority). It was a no wind day that was overcast and cold so I wasn't worried about turbulence on launch, just getting enough groundspeed to get airborne. As soon as I got flying the glider felt great and flew nicely. Thanks for watching and Happy Landings!

Hopefully you've improved your launch by now! Grabbing with whole arms and shoulders instead of just hands without any pitch control!
