R3 with the 600mm is just perfect setup. Z8 focus was unbelievable. But man the r50 with the 100-400 for a 10 times lower the price is impressive, good option for those who want to shoot wildlife but don't have the money just like me 😂.
I enjoyed shooting the R50 so much when I rented it, I bought one!!! It is an AMAZING little camera body and with the 100-400.... and awesome set up!!! It is perfect for anyone!! 🙏🤗💖
Hi Jonny - Another wonderful video - As I said before I use the R50 with the RF 100-400 and the 1.4 extender to give me 225-895 equivalent focal length - this was the cheapest AI autofocus system combo I could find to get me to that 800mm sweet spot ($1800) - I am still amazed at the results - I process my Craw images in Lightroom for iPad ($4.99 a month) on the ($400) cheapest iPad and print them on a Canon Pro 200 ($499) printer at up to A3+ As I said before you don't have to spend megabucks to produce great quality work.

I regret that I did not get to try the 100-400 with the extender but next time. Yeah, this set up really really impressed me - just an absolute joy yo shoot at a reasonable cost. That AI Focus is impressive for sure. 🙏🤗💖

I just brought the 100-400 with me on a trip and it did deliver very sharp and beautiful images of herons when I was having some rest in a park between tour stops. Absolutely amazing how much this light-weight lens can do even on a not-so-clear a day. With the hood reversely put on, it's about the size of an old EF200 F2.8 L lens, and about half the weight, and an extra 200mm reach.
I was so impressed with that lens and even the R50 - that lens though - WOW especially for the price. Really impressed with what Canon is offering..... and it fits so nicely into a bog! 🙏🤗💖
Outstanding Jonny, I think the R50 and 100-400 is unbelievable. The Z8 and 600 pf is a dream kit. But the sa.e can be said about the R3 and 200-800. I think you got the best out of the 3 kits, BRAVO. Your videos are always the best, thanks Jonny. Keep up the great work.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! For someone just starting out, the R50 and 100-400 is amazing.... and even for someone who has trouble with heavy set ups or just wants and amazing travel set up - win win. I do agree though that the 200-800 on the R3 is pretty amazing..... but not cheap. 🙏🤗💖
Man that shot of the humming bird hovering over the bird bath is awesome!!!!! And I think that white throated sparrow that was casually taking a bath in front of you is pretty rare for us lol hope you enjoyed the show
It is always fun to go to Hahn. When are you free to go out and what gear would you like to use? Dont have the Nikon any more or the 100-400, but I do have the rest of the Canon stuff!!! 🙏🤗💖

Jeff, thank you. They were all fun and what surprised me is how well the 100-400 works. AND, how awesome the focus is on the R50 - that little set up really really impressed me. I did buy an R50...... it was just too much fun and the video focus is amazing! 🙏🤗💖
PS for hummingbirds in Arizona in August, I will have the R3 and 200-800 and the 600F4. In December for Washington I will have the same unless something new is out....

Nice shots, fun to see. Looks like your 600 f4 harness system has evolved since last I saw. Would be nice to see a close up of each connection, to fully understand how you have it secured to your harness. Kind regards
I have tow of the same one and I had forgotten my main one at home..... so, this one was in my bag. I had to take a clip off of one of my stands as my secondary to the bottom of the lens. LOL I dont have it adjusted like my other, but it is the same. I bought a back up for just this reason. As a back up, I have no extra memory cards in here...🙏🤗💖
I get great results from my prefocus on R7 and R6ii.
I had to do that a lot with the R50 and that is Ok - it was like going back to the past. I had to think a bit and it was fun!! 🙏🤗💖
@@JonnyPink65 sorry John l meant precapture on the R7 & R6ii though most don’t like the fact that it creates its own own file l like it as l just pick out the ones l like in camera & they go straight into Lightroom with the rest of images.

Beautiful work...that R50 really punches above its weight. Are you saying you think its autofocus is better than the R7's or did I misunderstand? I find that R7 outstanding for bird's but it surprisingly struggles to find dogs' eyes.
Thank you!! Each has strengths. The R50 actually locks onto the eye a little better I think and it punches WAY above its price point. Both are great and if the R50 is what someone starts with, it is a winner. However, for me, I prefer the control I have with the R7 as far as setting my focus on the back - one button for single point, and one for eye tracking so in that sense the R7 wins. My personal preference is still the R7 for the control but.... LOL - both are pretty awesome!! 🙏🤗💖

I'll give you the name of the hotel if you plan to go there. But try to calculate the lowest tide for the morning or evening. A lot more to see. They have a pond of water at the back with the water monitor lizards. 😀

I do have them on some, not all in this one. For the most part, I like to shoot in auto ISO so it does go high at times. On my R3 that is not problem and the Z8 it was no problem either. I did notice that the R50 seemed to handle the higher ISO really well also. I will find out over the next couple of weeks. I love that R50!! 🙏🤗💖

I'm torn between a Z8 (with grip) and a Z9. I use a 500mm f4 & Sigma 150-600mm. How do you find battery life on the Z8 and have you used the grip on it?.
I'm currently using D500 & grip so used to a large body.
Well - if you like the bigger body, go with the Z9. It has just that little extra and the battery does last all day unless you are using it backscreen all the time as you would for video with the D500. That is how my friend James shoots his video with his D500. However, all your older batteries will still work with the Z8 and that is a pretty awesome camera body. The Z9 ONLY uses CF Express cards so take that expense into account and get the fastest ones.... and larger ones. The Z8 uses both, but again, you want super fast cards. In the Z8, I was only using a single CF Express card. Either camera body is a winner. Their updated AF is spectacular. 🙏🤗💖

Can you highlight the type, size and write speed of your memory cards to record 100 shots that fast? Future video would be nice. Some may be hundreds of dollars.
I am using the fastest cards that were on the market as of a year ago, both CF Express and the SD cards. The Nikon and the Canon R3 I am ONLY using CF Express cards as the SD cards would just not keep up with the speed. I shoot in full raw, not compressed. One thing about the pro level cameras is these days, it is hard to hit the buffer - especially with the small megapixel count of the R3. With the R50, I was shooting in bursts as I did not want to hit the buffer. Before my last trip in January, I purchased some new CF Express cards to have as back ups. When I bough them I think the write speed was about 1700. Before that when I bought the Z9, I had bought the fastest CF Express cards at that time and now use those as back ups. I only buy from B&H so I know I am getting genuine cards. Those are one thing I will not buy from Amazon. 🙏🤗💖
@@JonnyPink65 Thank you, I bought my new Canon RP full frame for Christmas from an area full time camera store. It is a single card slot "SD" not dual. I will need to check the stats but not likely meant for high-speed bursts.

what is the R50 and R100 missing for wildlife that the rest of the lineup is not? is it that 1/8000ths shutter speed is it better ISO?
That is one thing. It also looks like the R100 has no stabilization where as the R50 has digital stabilization for video. I would guess the the AI focus in the R50 is also an advancement. I have not tried the R100 so I really cant speak to that, but I was also impressed with how I was able to push the ISO on the R50 where as not so much on the R7. Maybe that was my imagination so I will have to go out with both to test that out. The R50 is like an M50 on steroids' with amazing new AI focus. The R7 has more programable control. The R100 - I cant say. The R50 shoots wildlife exceptionally well unless you start panning - that is where you really see the rolling shutter. 🙏🤗💖
Hi - FYI - The R100 has a fixed rear screen - with no touch facility - an older sensor - an older processor - fewer modes for autofocus - lower burst shooting - also as far as I am aware doesn't work with the 1.4 extender. What you get in the R50 is definitely worth the extra cost. The R50 uses the same Digic 10 processor like the more expensive Canon models. I am sure the video features are cut down as well. The R50 is definitely worth the extra.
PS The maximum R50 shutter speed is 1/4000 using first curtain shutter and 1/8000 in electronic shutter.

Oh no, not at all. I like my Canon gear but I do like trying other cameras. I rented the A6700 with the 200-600 and a macro lens when the A670 came out and had a blast with that as well. I was an amazing little set up. It is all super fun shoot - just being out with any camera is a treat!! 🙏🤗💖
PS - I should have put some Sony photos in there as I always go shoot hummingbirds when I rent camera gear, but I just didn't think about it. I might have to go back and compare those as well. LOL or just rent a Nikon and Sony set up too. What Sony set up would you recommend as best for wildlife?
