FAQ:
How long have you been natural? About 10 years, Big chopped Nov 2012 and Jan 2021
What I learned with twists, to avoid tangles, just do the 2 strand twist from root to tip, dont mix braids and twist it will cause tangles.
wow thank you, was almost going to make that mistake
Yes so true!!
This is also my takeaway after a year of doing mini twists with braiding the root. It’s just hard bc braiding the root makes it last longer/makes your top lay flat. But guess it’s not worth it in the end 🥹 I still want to try again though but on stretched hair and twisting from the root 😅
Depending on the size and how mini the twists are....yes lol
Yeah if you make true mini twists you have to be careful with braiding. I still prefer it but you can accidentally pull and have a full blown knot 😂 I find giving myself a trim in the twists also helps because it’s usually the ends of my hair giving me trouble, I also make sure my hair is at least damp.
After combing out and detangling my 18 month old locs, im a master detangler 😅. I use a lot of conditioner and just start from the bottom and twist my twists in the opposite direction while taking them down. This helps minimize breakage in the takedown process
😂. Nice. I will be implementing that on my hair.
I took out my 7 years of locs. No tangled twists can defeat me. I have patience for DAYS😅
I love mini twists for two to three weeks max because I can’t wash my hair in mini twists without getting horrific tangles. Takedown was always a breeze if I managed to not wash the mini twists.
I have had mini twists (Redone) for 5 weeks and i have learnt NOT to wash them!
Even if you put them into 6 large braids/ twists to keep them from fully shrinking?
@louk6848 I think it depends on your hair porosity and the thickness of your hair strands. If your hair strands are thick and you’re low porosity, you can probably get away with washing your hair while braided or twisted. Us fine strand girls that are naturally high porosity absolutely cannot wash our hair in braids and twists without massive tangling occurring.
@@A_Wilson I have fine strands actually, but I put my twists into chunky braids for washing and drying, and keep them very moisturised in between.
@louk6848 Oh, okay. I’m glad that works for you. My fine, course strands would be a mess. ☺️
The take down is the worse. I always need time, patience and a good movie and tv show.
I combed out my locs after three years and I also wear micro twists. The key is to shampoo your hair and use Alberto VO5 balsam conditioner to detangle. It has thee best slippage and you won’t have to deal with knots.
I remember using those conditioners at the start of my natural hair journey! They were amazing for slippage
The take down is always the worse for me. It's so easy for me to break my hair off.
Luv your hair! I've been rediscovering mini twists for the last 3 months. I don't braid them at first and I make a marshmallow root & slippery elm gelly that I reapply with oil during the 3 weeks to keep them moisturized so that takedown isn't a nightmare. Like you, I go 3 weeks with mine too. That seems to be the max for them to be healthy and not tangly taking them out.
Thank you! That concoction sounds promising. Thanks for sharing!
How do you make the gelly? And do you get the ingredients online? I’d love to make it
@christin9138 I did--I trust mountain rose herbs. 1/4 cup marshmallow root and 1/4 cup slippery elm and 2 tbsp fenugreek seeds (optional) into water about 2 cups-ish. I don't precisely measure the water. Boil, stirring occasionally, until water consistency changes to a snot-like substance. Remove from heat once it's thickened enough and strain thru a strainer (or into a nut milk bag and let cool a little before straining). Add a little essential oil if you like for scent. Pour into an applicator bottle and store in the fridge between uses. Safe for scalp and hair. You can add a few tbsp of oil if you like, but I don't. I'll add oil on top after my hair is dry.
TBH, your old twists looks better than my newly done twists - I suppose it is all perspective!
I'm on a one year mini twist challenge. This is month 3. I leave mines in for 4 weeks. Yes, after 2wks they aren't brand new looking anymore, but they still look good.
My hair is saturated with conditioner for slip during take 👇🏿. Easy as Sunday morning....
I find it way easier to detangle my hair dry than wet or damp
me too, especially as someone with a kinky hair type, dry detangling is better because it lets my hair stay stretched. making it wet/damp causes shrinkage which makes it tougher to detangle bc my hair just curls onto itself.
@@laer.393 same reason why I do dry detangling.
With a tangle teezer, quite gentle on the hair
Me too
I just recently installed mini twists and I only braided the the root of the twist around my edges so they’d look nice and neat.
"wow her hair looks amaizing" -me
"its actually really bad, its old" - her
"oh.."-me
I nrver take braids or twist out on damp hair. Always dry then i comb out debri because once water hits hair if there is any lint debri or dirt it instantly mats.
Never done the mini twist just medium small twist. My hair is so healthy when I keep up with twisting after wash day 💙 ♥️
Ik a lot of ppl do mini twists as a “long term protective style” but imo if I were to do mini twists I wouldn’t leave my hair in them for longer than 3 weeks. I think the best thing to do is to refresh them after the 2nd week is over meaning take them out one by one and remoisturizing them. Getting all the shed hair out before it has time to tangle.
In case you ever revisit this, try detangling when the hair is fresh out of twists as opposed to waiting. I don't know what the science is but for some reason you lose less hair.
My mum always insisted I do that but sometimes I'd rather lose hair than lose sleep but she's always right.
I think it's cause the strands are running in the same direction already
Your twists are actually very clean. Normal especially in the edges and nape, I have a lot of build up at the roots of braids + twists
I was cringing watching you undo that first twist 😩 my detangling process isn’t hard with twists. Maybe cause I keep my hair moisturized every couple of days. They just be moisturized and easily unravel.
This why I’ll never do mini twist again I almost ended up with loc in 2 weeks
I stopped mini twists and braids cos i always break my hair. Even tho i look very cute with them
Hey Roothie ❤. Try using a toothpick on the take down. Credit to YTber , Lolade Fashola.
D African way😂😂
Girl, you listening to Stephanie Ike just made me subscribe. 🥰✝️
I think doing bigger sizes and no braids but rubber bands will help.
I agree!
I use the African pride pre poo shampoo and it’s amazing with great slip. Melts away knots and tangles. Ur hair is looking amazing and healthy queen! 💞
The takedown is why I can’t twist this small. I takedown my twists with straight regular conditioner. Honey Hemp by Oyin.
Wow I’m sorry for this hard work. I can tell from your face you were shocked. It gives me anxiety thinking I lose all my hair. The style was cute but oh my
Are you combing dry hair? I think your twists still look good.
Do you have a video on how to do the bun you did on the cover photo of this video? It's a really pretty bun and I don't know how to do it 😔
Mini twists are super cute and versatile when they are in, but the installation, takedown, and potential breakage is not worth it to me lol
Have u ever tried the African pride pre poo shampoo when taking down and detangling? It’s made up of aloe and coconut water and it’s got amazing slip and just melts away knots and tangles.
Braiding the base makes take down awful
Mixing brain and twist is not a good ideia. Is good if you doing mini twist on the roots just twist it is going to be much easier to take it out.
So if I do this, I’ll just twist it to the root and deal with the puffy roots…🤷🏽♀️
That is what I do, especially this small omg braids that small look like a nightmare!!! I only braid the root when my twists are much much larger. Like rn I have maybe 30 twists total so I braided the root
Love the style.with the bubble pony
My sister your hair has grown so much, after traying mini braids I can't go back to wash and go I feel that my hair is braking lol
The hairstyle is giving.
I love mini twists but with my hair texture its a Hard pass for me!! I end up losing more hair!! Smh
Try African pride pre poo shampoo when it comes to take down and detangling process. Has absolutely amazing slip and little to no breakage. I promise u will love it!
I would never do twists/ braids that small. It would be a living nightmare to take out. Unless you can pay someone to install/take out for you
Your hair is beautiful...❤
it's your imagination or listening to mothers maybe, but your hair is still in great shape. put the comb down and use a hair pin. Lol
Beautiful ❤
Your negative words is hurting my ears/brains😢
I have learned to only take down braids, twist when you are fully prepared to. Good Vibing music, thought of how much more healthier the hair shaft is❤❤❤
..good luck
After combing out and detangling my 18 month old locs, im a master detangler 😅. I use a lot of conditioner and just start from the bottom and twist my twists in the opposite direction while taking them down. This helps minimize breakage in the takedown process
What was her start and end length
@@bellocholo3626 i started with shoulder length hair, ended the loc takedown process with past bra strap. It was uneven but my end were intact. After trimming my hair is a bra strap. I give credit to taking my time and being gentle and using lots of water and conditioner for slip.
