    I found the pins on the charging cable were too low, over time they seem to have pushed down, so I filed the top metal/plastic of the connector a bit and that did the trick.

    Thanks Mick. I always wash my Garmin fenix 5s plus watch after running, and had already cleaned all connector pins with water. But still I had problems charging the device even though the pins all seemed perfectly clean. The fenix 5s don't have the hollow hole you mention. Despite all this, cleaning the pins with rubbing alcohol fixed my charging issues. So, THAAAAAAANKS.

    Great tip. Thanks!
    Don't let the socket sit soaked in sweat, water, moisture or dust for long term. It can make the pads (tiny gold plated points) less conductive when put on the charging cable / pad, causing electrolysis reactions to occur, essentially runing contact points.
    Agree, that keeping them clean, and will let them last a long time.

    THANK YOU! I was about to have to buy the new Garmin Venu 2 Plus for a pretty penny, but this video out of at least 20, and countless hours searching the net, saved my Fenix 5x! WAHOO, back in business! The using of the pins in the holes, of which I could not see, was the trick!! You're welcome! I would also recommend using a small silicon insert which fits over the charging connector on the back of the watch.
      They sell them on Amazon, often with replacement cables, just search for "Fenix 5X cable".
      Using this, means, cleaning the watch far less often.
      It usually makes each clean last for quite a few charge cycles, so it's less of a pain! 8)

    Hi, Mick2d2. THANK YOU!! I’ve had my Fenix 5X plus for over 4 years now. I don’t know how many cables I’ve purchased. Nothing really works. I’ve always played around moving the cable around till it started charging the watch. This time it would not charge no matter what I did. I cleaned the terminal with oxygen peroxide and water. The first time I did this, I just used a normal pin/needle to carefully scrape the oxidization from out of the holes.
      When the watch was new, all the pins were gold and shiny. Now they're dulled by oxidisation. I used a magnifying glass.
      I now use an old stiff bristle toothbrush and isopropyl and it works just fine too, although from time to time, I do have to give the pins a careful scrape with the pin/needle.
      I also cover the power connector with a silicon cap when I'm wearing the watch, so I don't have to clean it as often. You often see these silicon caps included with power cables on Amazon.

      I bought it off Amazon, although I wouldn’t recommend it as the plastic around the connection has broken. It still works, but not vey well. The trick to fixing your watch, is cleaning inside the connection pins on the watch. I tend to use a hard toothbrush for this now. All my cables work, after cleaning the pins properly.

    Hello Mick, thanks for doing the video. I have a Forerunner 245 and it has stopped charging in the normal way. I tried your ideas and so far no joy. If I hold the watch and apply pressure to the plug it does charge ok for about 5 mins but after that its a pain. I intend getting in touch with Garmin to see what they say. • @mick2d2
      @mick2d2  3 года назад

      Maybe try a different cable? I've bought a few, and not all have worked. The stand I bought on Amazon, but the build quality of the plug leaves a bit to be desired, as the plastic around the edge has started to break off. It does still work though. Recently, I've been using an old hard bristle toothbrush on my watch. Workes quite well, most the time without isopropyl. Hope you get an answer off Garmin. It's a bit of a shitty design for such an expensive watch, especially as there are other systems (like my cheap Huawei) which is pretty much foolproof when it comes to charging!
