I think Jenna Fischer's autobiography(The Actor's Life) would be very helpful. Good practical advise on headshots, agents, mgrs...etc. However, main message is to just "do it" and you will meet other creatives and get closer to making it. Finally, this "profession" is really for people who are not in it for the money and who are true artists who will never ever quit.
@@MyRoadtoHollywood hey, can I ask for some advice on my career-wise? I am so confused right now. I need some advice… I am about start college, I want to be a movie director, but I read an article it's not easy to make money from films lease at the start, I am thinking of stability, and security, I know most filmmakers star off poor, homeless and didn’t really have good paying job. I was thinking bout majoring into pharmacy, but again I don't wanted to do pharmacy all my life, do you think it's a good idea to major in pharmacy and invest that money into films or do you think I should go directly for films? Please respond it will mean a lot to me.
@@aliquran7535 Hi! I am replying to your question on my Road to Hollywood. I work in the Film industry for 25 years as a hairstylist and I teach the fundamentals of working with human hair lace front and synthetic wigs, updos, contemporary hairstyles and vintage looks to Salon hairstylist who want to transition to the Film industry. Firstly I have to ask you what is your passion? what are you good at ? What is your training? You can’t be a director off the batt without any experience. My advice is to work on a film set pick one of the categories that will give you an opportunity to actually work on a film set with the ADs (Assistant Directors) Find their union and joint start on the ground floor and learn the craft, it’s a long road to be a director as you have to let your crew know at the production meeting going over the script what your vision is with the set designer, lighting crew, etc. Learn the craft and how to communicate what your vision is, the director also has to deal with the cast to tell the story the way of the directors vision. It’s a tall order, learn the craft and become an AD read books on becoming a director. Blessings! 🙏🏻❤️🇨🇦
I hope you will reply me because this is about my future and I think you are one the best persons that can guide me in this regard. I am interested in on screen work like hosting, public speaking, singing. I do designing well and I excel in terms of visual intelligence. I write non-fiction well but I struggle in teems of writing fiction. I have a lot interests like music, robotics, astrophysics and public speaking. I am confused between choosing BS Film and TV,BS visual communication design and BS Film and TV. I don't want to become a photographer. I enjoy on screen work mostly. Is BS Film and TV a financially stable career? Should I do a degree in Film or pursue it like a side hustle!
What do you do if you have no experience but just want a job around the film industry. Like what kind of job would I start? I want to change career but idk how
@@whyjustwhy2168 You can start off as a Production Assistant. I have a few videos about what a PA is and what to do if you have no experience/connections. Also, you can totally do it as an introvert too!
I went to film school in another country, but now I've moved back to my home country, I have no connections for people to refer me or ask for a job opportunity. You mentioned to put yourself out there, do you have specific advice for someone like me? Thanks!
Hi, I have a question, so I just graduated film school in late 2019 with a Bachelor's and I'm pursuing my craft as a filmmaker/writer & director. I'm also also looking for an entry level job full time in the film & tv industry. So I have a question, when it comes to getting a job in film & tv or in a production company, will they also have training just like other entry level jobs?
Not always. Some jobs will definitely give you a little “training” where they show you the ropes, introduce you to their specific ways of doing things, etc. But other jobs just expect you to know certain things off the bat. It never hurts to ask questions if you don’t know how to do something.
what kinds of things would they expect you to know? As someone who has never worked for a company, how would we get that experience? @@MyRoadtoHollywood
Im starting my senior year of college. My only experience is through the school. Can you make a video about where to start getting profession experience?
It’s usually clearly stated when you have a staff job. It’s not a contract position that ends when the film or show is over. You are usually making salary and get benefits too.
Does anyone have motivation for people who are EXTREMELY paranoid? (Me!!) I have always wanted to be a voice actor, working in the arts has been my dream since forever. I’m just terrified because I know the industry can be extremely bittersweet. Dealing with hate has always been the thing keeping me from pursuing acting. I don’t have tough skin (which I know is extremely crucial!!!) and I’m just scared overall. How can I handle this?? I’ve been told the whole “you just gotta be yourself” or “be strong and push through it” but it never fully satisfies my paranoia.
Thank you for being honest & talking about what it actually takes to get jobs in film. I appreciate that!

I guess I never mentioned it but I was mainly talking about working in production not acting, but that’s good to know. Thanks!

is it necessary to get a degree or is it not worth the money?
Nope! I did a video all about the pros and cons on film school for more info :)
Do you have to live in L.A to get into film?
Yes.
Am I gonna have to do any type of "FAVORS"?... I mean Im Nashville cute, but not Hollywood California "cute"...💯 😞😣😭🤧🥺
As a film student I think I am already screwed 😢

What if I'm on the east coast and not in Hollywood?...
There are film hubs in the East Coast too, like NYC.
u should reach to more people
…how do you get to know these people?

It’s better to have a RUclips channel these days. Instead of wasting money on a useless film and tv degree.
Please stop saying "You guys"
You don’t have to watch the video
