• Southeast US Railroad ...
Finally got this done! Interestingly enough, the crossing at the beginning and the crossing at the end are the two signalized crossings from Gurley, AL. This video is also almost three and a half hours long, so you might want to make sure you have plenty of time to watch this in. It also contains 126 different railroad crossings. My camera also liked to shut off early a couple of times for some reason, so a few of these recordings might not show the signals shutting off all the way. The vast majority of the crossings I recorded this year also had incandescent lights.
2016 wasn't that great a year for the world as a whole, but it was one of my best years railfanning. I caught several new trains (due to a few old ones on the NS Memphis District East End being removed and/or replaced) and railfanned in Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida for the first time. I also saw a much greater variety in crossing equipment this year than last year, including a crossing with four mechanical bells! I was also able to record some General Signals Type 3 electronic bells for the first time in 2016, along with recording 8 inch GRS Lex-C lights as well. Monroe Street's crossing in Courtland, AL was also closed, but the signals got re-installed at Jackson Street in the same town to replace the aging gateless signals there. Alabama Street in Courtland, AL also had the signals there get replaced, along with the signals at Old Trinity Road in Trinity, AL and Mooresville Road in Bella Mina, AL. Market Street in Athens also got the signals replaced with gated cantilevers, including a pedestrian signal on one side of the crossing. This crossing also had one of the first known installs of Leotek EV series LEDs. During 2016, I was also able to get every single public signalized crossing in Madison County, AL recorded. I was also able to find a few CSX crossings that still retained the which emergency information signs, along with an NS crossbuck crossing in Decatur, AL which still had one. I also managed to find a crossing in Tennessee with a mechanical school bell as the bell in use on it.
There were several changes to the railroads as well, other than Norfolk Southern getting rid of, rerouting, and creating several trains. Norfolk Southern got ET44AC engines in the first part of the summer, and the HMCR got three B38-8s, though one of them was out of commission for the entire year. CSX also retired all of their standard-cab GEs during 2016, and sent a number of them back to GE, IIRC. I was also able to catch various other railroads' Tier-4 GEVOs this year, such as CSX, BNSF, and UP. All three of those railroads got their Tier-4s back in 2015. Наука

I just saw the CEX train, congratulations!! Is new, repaired, repainted, good as new. Now they can drive anywhere since is finally fixed, I'm meaning the 9554 CEX train.
You mean CSX, there is no CEX brand. But it is CSX 9554, now HMCR 9554

At 2:54:42, I was laughing at that white car that immediately stopped on the other side when the crossing signals turned on and everyone else continued to move. That driver was all like, "I'm just going to sit here and follow the law while y'all be stupid."
I love trains
I do too agree with you my dad likes these too
@ Anthony Bondi Give Princeton, Indiana a try trains run through here almost like day and night the only time that there might be fewer trains will be between the hours of 6:00 pm-8:00 pm the rest of the time it is almost a mad house train after train including the intermodal trains, usually my roommate and I go where we can catch a lot of them, we have some very unusual spots for instance when we are in Evansville, we usually go by Howell Yard and we can catch some action there, another good spot is the Depot in Princeton, don’t know of many in Vincennes but you have some good spots that you go to. Don’t dismiss the Southwestern parts of Indiana.
Fantastic video, thumbs up and subscribed

Thanks!
That is a really fantastic video!! I love all trains and railroad crossing!
Thank you!
Wow the trains come quickly !
Well, the FRA only requires a minimum activation time of 20 seconds before the train enters the crossing, and most railroads have their crossings set to automatically activate about 25-30 seconds before the train reaches the crossing.
@@freebrickproductions in Spain it's you have to wait 10 minutes in railroad crossing 🤣
The reason for long wait times at level crossings in Europe is that they typically have special signals or regular train signals which indicate the state of a level crossing's protection. In other words, an unsecure level crossing will cause the signal system to tell the train to stop. In order for the train to stop in time, the level crossing has to be activated very early so that the signal system can let the train come to a safe stop.

Signal on the right: SafeTran Base, SafeTran Bell and I forgot the type of lights. Signal on the left: SafeTran Lights (im sure) SafeTran Base, (there is no bell.) I'll find the video.
All lights at that crossing are Safetran 12x20s.
@@freebrickproductions Ok.
I noticed how the gates stop making a sound when the train's horn sounds. It's different from where I live, where the gates continue to chime until the train is gone and the train's horn never sounds.
Norfolk Southern sets their bells to shut-off when the gates have lowered, usually.

Okay I have a question.
What is the crossing with those extra lights on the side called?
I know their used for roads on the side of the tracks. (Look at the first crossing in this video).
Gurley Pike, Gurley, AL.
No those extra lights aren’t for vehicles to know to stop, they are so the engineers know that the railroad crossing is operating correctly
2:15:29 it’s my favorite crossing remind me when I went to an STH 10 tornado siren

@@freebrickproductions yeah true
these engineers don't have to hold the horn for that long

They do actually. It is required by law that the train blows a specific pattern witch goes as such (long, long, short, long) The final long blast of the horn must be held Until the front plow of the locomotive crosses the entire roadway. Federal railroad administration rule 14 a.
Well they do so stop worrying about their jobs and stay the hell out their business

Hi, can you tell me the time when I can see a freigth train running through Market St., Athens? Best
Usually I just go out there and wait for a while.
If it helps any, to the south is a siding, and if any of the block signals at the siding show anything other than red, then a southbound train will be coming within the next hour or two.
Also, there's an online scanner feed for both the CSX and NS mainlines in the area that's based out of Decatur. Any northbounds will hit a defect detector on the south side of Decatur and then will be calling the signals out as they pass them in Decatur before asking for permission from NS and the Decatur Bridge Tender to cross the Tennessee River.
my apologizes, english is not my native languague. I would like to know in what part of this video i can see this train crossing through Athens?

11:00-Why did the train only honk twice and in the south the bells usually stop when the gate descends. What is the difference?
I think the gate on the far side just doesn't lower all the way for some reason. And I'm guessing the engineer just didn't feel like doing the horn sequence.
The bells at 1:20:20 sound like fire bells.
8:02 is that literally how far the gate on the left can go up?
Yea.
Anybody know who made those kind of cantilevers at 1:19 and at 6:18? I have a few in my area.
WCH, IIRC. WRRS and Federal Signal also made ones of both styles. WRRS ones use Union Metal bases, while Federal Signal and WCH have a different base with a tag on it (usually) that names the manufacturer. Both cantilevers at 6:18 are Federal Signal/WCH, BTW. The left-hand one is just an extendable variant of the right-hand one.
Anyone know the song in the white truck at 42:50?
Not me cuz I didn't really hear it

All of these videos were taken from videos that I've recorded throughout the year, and each of the videos in this can be found on my channel without anything cut out from the trains.

I was just thinking this. There should also be a good amount of space between the train and the vehicles in case the train were to derail.
Why were the trains at 1:17:50 and 1:22:30 really slow?
What are the names of the crossings anyway?
They are literally just outside of the Sheffield Yard, so trains go slow to enter the yard. In the case of the second one, the train going through it had stopped next to the crossing at a red signal while the train at the first one entered the yard.
The first one is Gnat Pond Road near Leighton, AL.
The second one is Marthaler Lane, also near Leighton, AL.

Why are some of those fools going around the lowered gated crossings and why arent they heading or stopping at gateless crossings? Dont they care about their life or they want to beat the train? What states were you in when you filmed all these crossings?
Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida.
Anastasia Sheniloff Playing it safe by waiting a few extra minutes for a train to pass is a lot more worth your time than playing it dangerous just to save a few extra seconds. At least it's most likely that you will live to see another day by waiting.
