Tom is not a movie star. He doesn't need glitz and glamour. He is an actor and dedicated to his craft. He is only interested in work and his family. Including a love for dogs and jiu-jitsu. 👍👍💪🔥
I think this is great when a celebrity puts themself out there like this. Part of the journey in BJJ is getting out of your comfort zone. The fact that he is willing to risk failing in public is really amazing. He just wants to get better like everyone else.
I think it's nice to see guys like him (rich, famous) to testing themselves in a hard BJJ tournament. Jiu jitsu just doesn't care who you are outside the mat. Props to him. BJJ journey is a hard, but beautiful one.
Bale is bigger and even most badass. The screen don't show us the Truth. There's a interview that hardy says about how big and atletic bale was for batman
tom hardy is one of my favorite actors for the simple reason he is driven and down to earth when not on screen. ive heard him speak that when hes not working has downtime hes comepeting and practcing most days of the week. there is plenty of clips of him doing his BJJ
The thing I love the most is the respect he's showing them after the fight. He's a humble human being and a great sportsman, and that alone makes him a badass in my book.
This is the minimum Respekt a fighter should show his opponent. Nothing special here. Did you expect he is a jerk, just because he has few famous movies?
what most people dont know, is that hardy a long time ago had somekind of MMA movie and actually trained specifically for that movie, and he obviously took it serious.
I only found out that yesterday. Used to watch him as a kid on saved by the bell 🤣. Watches a few vids of him yesterday and the guy impressed me. Fair play to him, seems like a stand up guy too.
I mean his hands... it is what it is but that doesn't change the fact mans is a unit. Legitimately strong guy with a good base and good core. Gotta love that guy.
Big fan of Tom Hardy in the movie roles he's played, but didn't know about this level of physicality. Awesome to know and really makes sense. Not surprised and answers questions, for sure. Thanks for the video! 👍🙏
Lol as a martial artist and actor myself if I seen Tom Hardy show up to a tournament, I would be like what the fuck!? IS THAT BANE!!!??? Is he really trying to roll with me right now? I think I would be excited for a few seconds because he’s on my favorite actor and then I will be like okay it’s time to fight. Couple of my good friends worked with Tom Hardy on venom. He said he’s very humble and that he loves martial arts.
Love Tom Hardy from the door years ago, if you havent seen Warrior? go get it right now! one of the best fight movies of alltime they def got it right!
It's actually a pretty shitty movie, just rewatched a month ago. the fighting is alright, but really any actual mediocre but real fight will be more exciting.
He's trying to roll with punches, and being hit is a part of it while you learn. So he's doing an exercise while sparring, which means experience. Also throwing heavy hands while pulling it bach at the right spot.. I always loved the actor, but this brings him to another level.
Great video well presented good commentary informative am a Tom Hardy fan and have a lot of time for him film wise and like a lot of his work. This really adds to that for me. Side note anyone else keeping the fingers crossed for Taboo Season Two??
i like him as an actor a lot. he has the money and probably time. he can get taught by great teachers if he wants to so its not surprising that he is excellent.
why would anyone let him win? to be able to say "I tapped out Bane/Venom in a BJJ competition" is better than any prize they'd get for actually winning
Tom hardy is awesome! I'm happy he keeps on doing these competitions..he's a force to be reckon with..and if Tom hardy was my opponent in a match..I'd say oh Shit ur Tom Hardy! Let's Go! LOL 😂😂
In regards to the armbar at the start, if he was intentionally flaring his knees it was actually really beautiful technique. Check out Dave Camarillo's armbar technique - He trains a lot of actors for jiujitsu scenes so that may be where Tom Hardy picked up the technique. He's also incredible at jiujitsu and has a whole series on the armbar which I highly recommend. Crossing your feet at their shoulder, back heeling and flaring the knees locks the position in place. It's extremely hard to escape with the knees flared like this because the head stays pinned on the ground, and with your feet crossed, back heeling it's not possible to move the shoulder away from the attackers hips.
I really feel like with the ankle locks, he’s putting a lot of pressure on that area between the ankle and calf, and his opponents are just tapping to pain because they don’t know how to escape
I have seen a lot of his movies, but honestly, I would not have recognized him at a tournament. With the light beard and scraggly hair, I would have thought he was one of the regular dudes I always train with.
Tom Hardy is probably one of the most handsome men to have ever lived and breathed on this earth! Even in his ugliest roles, he's hot. Lol Seriously though, it's his brilliant acting that makes those characters so lovable. I can't think of anything he's in that wasn't good. This video was wonderful to watch for people, like myself, who appreciate his beautiful physique. Lol
Very impressive!! He is always cool in every movie. And this... Well, just makes him cooler! :) He takes it much further beyond what we see on the movie screen. A journey into Real Martial Arts!! Warrior is one of my all time favorite movies. Loved it!! Thanks for sharing. Any idea what the cool music is right at the beginning?
right! I agree 100% I always felt that way about celebrities who do BJJ, but now many of them are taking it much more serious and even competing. Like Tom Hardy and Mario Lopez.
Props to Tom Hardy for winning gold within his division. There is one thing the BJJ community must realize is that Hollywood celebs have access to private coaching and free time after raking in millions from blockbuster movies and other perks that comes with it. So for the ordinary Joe going to BJJ 3 times per week i would say they have done well. Guy Ritchie is really awesome too , just confirm to see if he is a Black Belt . Mario Lopez, Keanu Reeves who was taught by the Michado clan, geez we can go on and on . If we have free time, an athletic acumen and ability, some fight IQ anything can happen if you a movie celeb. Anyways , you rightfully can say that he worked for it and earned it. But do not underestimate those private classes with the best of the very best. It sure does help a lot. See Jake Gyllenhaal is singing and vocalling like a true Opera singer now, go see for yourself. Private tuition and hard work wins.
Plus based on his age he's probably in the Masters 3 level with other 45 year old men. Who probably have a family and aren't being paid to be in tip top condition. Good on him for sure but let's be real. Most tournaments even have in Southern California, arguably the mecc of BJJ in America, the Masters level barely have more than a dozen guys in the bracket. Shoot I've been in a tournament where it was literally 3 guys in my weight and age class.
I agree. It's very rare to be in competition for a celebrity. Also rare to spar with gloves and without head gear for celebrity. Rare for anyone to go into Jiu-Jitsu competition and spar without head gear.
Seems like he knows his stuff, love the fighting roles even more now! Reminds me of Keanu putting in the time to learn how to portray the martial art on screen realistically.

Tom Hardy is just letting everybody know that not just in Movie/TV Character but in Real Life he is a TRUE BEAST!

He also was in talks to portray Lee Murray in a biopic from Gareth Evans. The Raid 1 and 2 director.

I'd like to imagine in the middle of the fight Tom said to his opponent, "You fight like a young man with nothing held back. Admirable, but mistaken".
Seeing him do this kind of stuff makes him seem so down to earth considering who he is and his status. Such a humbling experience
