I remember when I went to France. Everywhere I went before I would say anything, I would be told...you're Canadian and I asked, how do you know? I was told Canadians are always smiling. Sweet.
In my case, it was my French Canadian (Québecois) accent that gave me away ... they kept calling us their cousins. LOL
There's a lot of goodwill towards Canadians over there ... when I went to Spain, we were also very well received to my surprise.
Tip: Always use the word "Bonjour" when entering a commerce over there, it's a sign of politeness and they will appreciate it.
I'll never forget the time me and my daughter were in Canada for a hockey game. I was behind another car at a red light. The light turned green and the guy didn't go for like 30 seconds. I gave him a light tap on the horn. Next thing you know I see the flash of red and blue lights behind me. I think to myself what did I do wrong now? I pull over and the policemen asks me what I was doing at the light back there. I ask him what does he mean? He asks me about my horn? I inform him that the car ahead was not moving when the light turned green. He says "Well up here we're a little more polite than that. You need to watch yourself". After that I knew that Canadians take their politeness seriously.
Great story! Reminds me of my brother, we’re Canucks BTW, driving a rented car in San Francisco. He stopped at the light when it turned yellow. The woman behind him leaned on the horn.... he couldn’t believe the rudeness. It’s obviously a cultural thing.

I call bullsh*t on this story. The gotten is absolutely to let someone know to move...or alert oblivious pedestrians not too keep jaywalking. Guess it depends on the province... but I've never seen or heard of police pulling you over for honking your horn. 🤔🤷♂️
My wife and I went to Toronto on our honeymoon, and we returned with the kids several years later. Growing up in Michigan, my parents and I traveled and camped several times in Canada (and I can actually say that I've been to Wawa.) My "timmy's" coffee mug is one of my most treasured possessions.

Hello my northern brothers. I am a transplanted Michigander living in Arizona but always miss my northern homeland. I often refer to Michigan as "Canada light." Twice the crime, no free health care but the exact same shitty weather.

I'm a Canadian, pretty much everyone I know agrees that Tim Hortons isn't really good anymore, it used to be great, but the quality has gone down over the years. If you come to Canada and trash talk against Tim Hortons, we're probably gonna nod in agreement. That's in Québec though.

that is because they Americanized it by putting tons of extra shit on the menu that most people don't want and wait times are longer per order now because of these snowflakes going to Timmies and ordering an Egg McMuffin.

About 10 years ago, my wife's nieces and nephews moved to Toronto from Vietnam. Not being able to speak English for the first few years, things were tough for awhile. They eventually got good jobs and are thriving now. A couple of years ago when we travelled to see them, they could speak English enough to communicate with me. The oldest niece said to me, "Tim Horton's, Tim Horton's! Why so many? Tim Horton"s too many! Why?" I answered, "Because Canada."

Just a few hours ago I was at the local Timmies and saw a guy walking around outside wearing a toque, mitts, winter coat, boots and SHORTS. I'm in Peterborough, Ontario and the temperature now is -4C. Only in Canada.

I understand your point about Tim Hortons. Some things are home grown, and people think about it as they might a family business. To have Wendy's buy it is kind of a slap in the face for all those years of community support. For us here in the States, a rough equivalent might be when Renault bought American Motors. It just felt wrong.

I love watching RUclips channels from other countries. It just shows me that people are basically the same no matter where they're born. Canada is our closest ally and trading partner. And I hate to show my age here, but how could you not love a country that gave the world Bachman-Turner Overdrive and John Candy?! Not to mention the huge crush I've always had on Anna Paquin. Lol! I'm a truck driver and was talking to a Canadian driver once about how much I love poutine. He said he'd willingly trade their poutine for our biscuits and gravy. I'd take that deal! I would say the video is pretty accurate. Rush is the greatest rock trio ever, Tim Hortons is awesome, Toronto does a fantastic food, and never ever mess with the customer agents. They pull you over and tear your car apart and not put it back together, true statement.

You guys are fun! Way before my dad passed away, we used to go to Montreal for a few days to a week to see the Canadian Grand Prix. I loved the trips. Yes, even though we were US citizens, we brought our passports with us and that was in the 80s and 90s. Canada felt like a mix of Europe and a much more polite and dignified type of people than in the states. That's not saying that everyone and every place were like that. However, it was nice seeing a clean major city. The metro was impressive. It was quiet and clean and not scary. I loved old Montreal. It really felt like Europe. I have relatives in Toronto (the capital, hahaha!) and hope to go there someday, but Montreal will always be in my heart. In the meantime, it's fun to see you guys and to hear what you have to say, eh?

If you want a feeling of old Europe then Québec City is a must see ... believe me you will not be disapointed.
It's the oldest city in North America and it's also the most pittoresque and beautiful, it's like going back in time.

If you want good cheap coffee in Canada, go to McDonald's. When Timmie's was sold (again), the new owners stopped using the original Tim Horton's roasting company and McDonald's Canada walked right in and made a deal.
The accents are regional. If you live in my neck o' the woods, cigarettes are darts, some of us do say aboot but not all the time and it's tongue in cheek. Letterkenny the TV show is pretty accurate to describe Listowel and SW Ontario. Those slang terms are not used by people in the cities. Just in the country. Rush is a no go. You love Rush or you shut up. lol

I grew up in the northeastern section of PA...near the Poconos and people would say we sounded like we were from Canada....parts of Michigan outside of Detroit really sound Canadian!!
I'm a Canadian nurse and worked in NC for 20 years. People there used to always ask me if I was from West Virginia. Something about the way I said "about" lol

Guys, Love your channel. I came across a quick and accurate way to convert Celcius temperatures to Fahrenheit for your American viewers. Here 'tis: (1) Take the Celsius temp and double it. (2) Subtract 10% of that new number. (Loosely. You can round up or down & drop anything after the decimal.) (3) Add 32 (because you're going onto the Fahrenheit scale). For example: 18, doubled is 36, less 10% (3 or 4) is 33 or 32, plus 32 is 65 or 64 F. Because the human body can't tell the difference between 64 and 65 F., it shows that the Fahrenheit scale has too many degrees and the Celsius scale is more useful for most things.

Would love for you guys to visit south Louisiana (areas in and around Lafayette Louisiana), home of Cajuns. Our ancestors were Acadians originally from the area of Nova Scotia area. Our summers are horrible for heat and humidity but our winters are mild. Great food and plenty of festivals when COVID has passed.

I spent time in Lafayette so I could visit Avery Island and the Tabasco store. Awesome people but honestly I can say the same for any State that I've visited. I find that Americans are typically as friendly as we Canadians are. Even more so than Torontonians eh?

Back when I was a kid in Quebec during the 1980s, Dunkin' Donuts were the ubiquitous doughnut chain. Timmies only expanded into Quebec during the 1990s and by the late 2000's, Timmies were just as common as elsewhere in Canada and Dunkin's were pretty much dead in the province.
True ... I'm also a quebecer and Dunkin Donuts are now very rare.

Tim Horton's is owned by Burger King now, and they became a Canadian company on paper, and used the Timmies purchase to do that. So they are owned by an American corporation, but that corporation is Canadian on paper. There was a big backlash against BK in the USA for doing this. It was 2017 or 2018 IIRC.
And Timmies used to also be owned by Wendy's in the 80's and 90's but were somehow able to go independent again (Canadian owned) until the BK takeover.
I forgot to add... BK became Canadian on paper because of our much lower business tax up here. That's why Americans were so pissed.

So Canada is a major arms dealer, major oil producer and greenhouse gas emitter, and tortures terrorists (I doubt that last claim). As a American, I couldn't be more proud (warning: sarcasm)! When I was a college student in Vermont in 1988-1991, my friends and I occasional travelled to Quebec specifically to buy some great beer or to go to a bar, since the drinking age was 18 rather than 21. We would just tell the border agents we were visiting for the day. Never had a problem. Sometimes they wouldn't even ask for drivers' licenses; just asked where you lived.

After Tim Hortan's was sold the quality went down the tubes. It isn't Canadian anymore. Their attitude towards workers went down the tubes about the same time.

We have a "Path" in NJ. Its called the Hoboken Path. Its a Terminal or Transit Hub which connects all points in NJ through Hoboken to Lower Manhattan (World Trade Center).
Tim Horton was my favorite hockey player. I remember seeing him play a game where someone on the other team tried to fight him. Tim grabbed him and then pinned him on the ice. The guy got 4 minutes for fighting and Horton wasn't awarded a penalty. It was a sad day that he died on his way back to Buffalo after he got the second star after the Sabres beat the Leafs in Toronto.

YES!!! Once Tim’s sold out to outside interests, I actually found the quality of the products went down. The coffee didn’t taste as good. I don’t know if they messed with the recipe, or what but it was NEVER THE SAME. Tell me it wasn’t just me. Did anyone else notice this?
I worked with a former employee, and when Burger King sold out to RBI they stopped each location making their own donuts. Now they make them at a central location, flash freeze them, and then just finish them up at the store. They all taste like gasoline to me now.
The same thing happened when Fairmont bought CP hotels. My mother worked at the Chateau Frontenac for many years and whenever she had to stay the weekend as director on duty, I'd go keep her company. We went there during a break between our sixth and seventh pandemic wave, and it was so bad it was heartbreaking. Service was terrible, redecoration was blingy and gaudy, and everything was outrageously expensive. I felt like the American owners were treating us like captive consumers rather than hotel guests. Like they're going "now that we've got them in one of our rooms, how can we fleece them?" Instead of "how can we give them a wonderful stay to justify the price of the room, so they want to come back and give us good reviews?"
I feel like the American way is to make as much money off you as possible. Period. Companies like Tim's and Canadian Pacific hotels had a certain Canadian pride to them, representing our country and serving our communities. Americans don't care about that, on top of their capitalism being more extreme than ours, they're not Canadian, this isn't their country or communities.

You are right, there is something inherently real about Canadians- as -business owners. I feel that - money at all costs - way of seeing people as consumers. It feels so pushy and … not Canadian.

I had to go through a whole ordeal once driving into Canada for business. I stupidly told them what I would be doing and for some reason they didn't like it. I waited an hour, drove to the same crossing to a different gate and told them I was visiting a friend, and they said have a good day.
There are a lot more rules about traveling for business. You might even need a visa.
Even though they aren't as popular as Tim Horton's, we've had plenty of Dunkin Donuts in Canada. We had one in my little town of Tracadie NB. It went out of business in the early 90s. I think that's the deal with Dunkin, they just went out of business in Canada as Timmies got their meteoric rise to stardom, which was all pre-2000s.
I live about an hour south of the border, we use to have several Tim Horton's across North Dakota and Minnesota, they all ended up closing after only a year or two in operation.
I stil remember being just outside Toronto about early 2000s when Krispy Kreme opened...I took my nephews and we made the run..got to the store..the lineS wrapped around the outside like 4 deep and people were waiting from that morning!!!..the drive-thru was about 100 cars and was about a 3 hour wait...I decided to walk in the main entrance....the cheek of me! I was ushered out and told I just cant walk in....The experience was funny for me, who sets his watch on the 'red light' at my local Krispy Kreme..we left and went to Timmys....never followed up on how Krispy Kreme did in Canada after that.
They forgot don't get drunk at a Canadians Bruins game and than try to French Kiss a police dog.

Western Canadian here... I don't get the 'Timmy's' thing. DEFINATELY an Ontario thing - and the coffee is nothing special. But of course, if it's a Toronto thing it's presumed to be universally Canadian. All that said, Toronto IS a fantastic world-class city - far better theatre and museums than almost anywhere else, and the people are far friendlier than in Vancouver. If only they didn't have unbearable weather for 8 months of the year. TOO hot and TOO humid in the summer and fuck Ontario winters!

There are certainly people who don't care for Timmies, but there's 9 of them, just in Chilliwack where I live, and they're always busy. I happen to like their coffee, but my presence is for Folgers Black Silk. To each their own, I say.

I've heard it called "Hortons" in Nova Scotia but it seems like it's "Tim's" in the other provinces and in Michigan it's "Timmy Hoes." Their coffee is okay but their donuts taste like chemicals.

I was so excited about 4 years ago we in Minnesota got some Tim Hortons. 3 locations in Minneapolis. But they struggled. And after about 2 years of trying, they all shut down at once.

I dont like Timmies coffee it has a nicotine taste to it but their sandwiches are awesome. Also Maritimes and Western Canada are not the same as Ontario. Quebec is also different. Even Western Canada has the flatlands and BC they are also different.

i love that Canadian border patrol tv show they are not messing around! if you get caught with a pocket knife they will arrest you, which would be hard to remember bcz most of us carry one not for self defense but in case we need to cut something or need a screw driver. etc. even as a woman i have one in my purse. anyway they are not messing around!

I live in Michigan and there's a Timmy's 3 miles from my house.
Rush hour(s) from Toronto all the way to to Hamilton makes Los Angeles seem free-flowing. And BTW, Timmy’s is not all US owned. The International Holding Company that includes Timmy’s is 32% owned by a Brazilian investment firm.

You are lucky to have a transportation system. many cities in the US lack any type of it, especially light rail and subways. I live in San Antonio TX and all we have is a bus system. The city population is nearly 2 million and all we have is a bus system? its pathetic and laughable. but people love their cars and think any type of public transportation is a waste of time.
